- A Rube Goldberg machine built in Minecraft.
Save file available here: www.mediafire.c... This uses World 5.
Because I've been asked this several times, if you want the machine to run correct you must manually reset three water switches and one lava switch before turning it on. A tutorial on how to do this can be found here: • Minecraft Tutorial : C... . Each switch should be marked with a sign nearby.
I'm using a customized Painterly Pack painterlypack.net/ for my texture pack.
Thanks to /r/minecraft for some of the machines and everyone who made a tutorial.
I do have to say though, his accuracy on the TNT cannon was phenomenal
Actually There Was 4:14
Just to let everyone know he did this in beta so that means he did this all in survival
He had torches under it
You can use NBT editor to edit players inventory.
Mods like TooManyItems existed back then too
I remember when I was very young and very new to the internet that this was one of the very first videos I watched. this was when k was so young that I didn't know the difference between the free demo I played of Minecraft and this. I didn't understand mods or know what a chain reaction was so this all seemed magical. I watched this over and over and over until I had it memorized. then I forgot how to find the video one day and I had never payed attention to its name. I only just recently remembered this video and decided to look it up using the knowledge of video tags and all that I have today and I cannot describe how nostalgic I feel.
This is pretty cool ngl
I remember watching this back then. This was the first Minecraft video I've ever watched, the nostalgia man.
I love how the creeper's face is still there, haunting the build.
Seeing as how this is a 3 year old video, it's really cool!
Kamal Martin this is a 4 year old comment
This is a 8 year old video now
Lol, this is a 5 year old comment
6 year old comment!
Almost 10 year old video. Damn this was a good time.
So you didn't need the entire machine... You could have just placed chickens
Well this is a Rube Goldberg machine. Pretty much the more random functioning crap you add to it, the better.
He could have had the chickens already placed you know...
no. the machine opens the doors. he could've just placed chickens but then the doors would've stayed closed until he went down and did it manually.
I still don't trust chickens...
Seriously , how can people dislike this great work of art ?
this is the video that made me discover and start playing minecraft 12 years ago
I remember in 1st grade 13 years ago we were doing Rube Goldberg machines and I found this video while watching UA-cam and sent it to my teacher and she played it in class lol. Nostalgic
Thumbs up if you come from the channel "Mumbo Jumbo"
watched this many times as a kid, thanks for the memories
And to think you did this back in beta...now it's so much easier to do in full release with pistons and such...yet you found a way. You are epic my friend
That has gotta be the greatest minecraft creation I have seen so far.
that cannon was awesome, I must agree with Vidzaboutstuff...
but that was so cool! I liked how you involved almost every minecraft transformation in some way, the lava->burning, the lava->cobble, minecarts, boats, torch->drop, redstone, and then ending it with the suspence of ai mobs...
Well done, bravo!
I didn't see this on reddit so its really surprising this was not reposted a Ton
Such a nostalgic video for me, hello from 2024
I would have never had the patience to do this. You sir are a saint!
Very nice job. I was confused for most of the time, but in my opinion that's what makes Rube Goldberg machines awesome.
My only wish is that the chickens were already spawned and ready, but I'm sure you had a reason for the way you did it, good job man
Wow, I would have never thought that you could create a rube goldberg machine in minecraft! Great idea!
Yes it did. The machine opened the doors that led to the pressure plates. The chickens had to be hand-spawned because they would have despawned if he got too far away in that version.
This is what happens when you're to lazy to just make a lever, also the text in the sings went perfect with each situation, nice!
This is the first video I've ever liked. I just wanted to say that. In over 1000 liked videos, this is the first.
Epic. Two best parts: The canon with the perfect bulls-eye, and the chickens.
This is the first minecraft video I ever watched, I saw this before I even knew what minecraft was!
i miss when minecraft vids were creative and not just the same 5 minigames over and over. good job dude!
That. Was. Awesome. I particularly liked the water slide bits.
(Though the chicken interlude made it seem as though the final detonation is unconnected to the rest of the sequence.)
The machine had everything to do with the creeper. The machine opened the doors to the pressure plates. The chickens had to be hand-spawned because in that version of Minecraft, chickens despawned if you got too far away.
Just hearing the old sounds made me so nostalgic
A rube goldberg machine is an overecomplicated device to do a simple task. As you have pretty much said in your comment, this thing meets those standards :D
I can't even imagine where you began.
Etho brought me here! This looks awesome btw, good job!
Congratulations, you have won minecraft.
The chickens had everything to do with the machine. The machine opened the doors to the pressure plates. The chickens had to be spawned in by hand because in that version, chickens despawned when the player got too far away.
Never underestimate the power of fluids
well done, my bro just finished a rg project fpr physics. very nicely done
The machine itself opened the doors that let the chickens through to the pressure plates. He had to place the chickens because they despawned if you got too far away in that version of Minecraft.
and then at 2:35 my fav minecraft music pops up. you sir have PLANNED THIS
I'm sure someone's said this, but in the end you could make the light level in the chicken pen much lower than that on the pressure plates, and they would hop on over.
That must've taken FOREVER but it had the really cool outcome!
Damn didnt realize hearing the old door sounds would be so nostalgic
A Rube Goldberg contraption is a very complex machine to do something simple, like this.
@elitesmiley Not quite. All the other stuff was also "necessary" to open the doors so the chickens could get to the pressure plate.
Anyone else reminiscing in nostalgia about old minecraft videos in or after 2020?
The use of waterwood was way ahead of its time.
It's amazing how creative people can be!
this video totally deserves more views. that was well planned, very humorous, very susppenseful and just plain interesting... now can you do that again? I wasn't looking... lol
wow, it would have sucked if the chicken stepped on the pressure plate and nothing happened :P Awesome build!
Everything else was to open the door in the chicken room, otherwise they couldn't step on the pressure plates. Plus, he was ensuring nothing despawned.
Now thats what I call a creative piece of AWESOMENESE
this was when i first played minecraft...this feels really oldschool to me
This is reallly clever, I liked it, Rube golberg stuff always made thing it was a pointles but really cool thing to watch, I enjoyed this, thank you.
This was amazing! Well done, the signs were great as well.
as the wool burnt i was like "please don't be a troll face, PLEASE!"
@NewMineCinema A rube-goldberg machine is designed to make something as simple as hitting a switch or cracking an egg..... And turn it into something very complicated and unnecessary.
throwing the eggs at the end really killed this...
you can basically skip the rest of the machine entirely
What a simple solution for getting rid of creepers! I want one!
Terrific job, awesome chain reaction
He's right. the whole thing could have been circumvented if he had just walked to the end and thrown an egg at the pressure plate. I would have preferred him have something fall on it using a water conveyor or something.
This man... deserves an award
Great machine...I liked it...gotta say the signs were a nice touch
@NewMineCinema actually the doors had to be opened for the chickens so it was necessary
haha nice, the signs made this alot better.
"this uses World 5." good old days!
Week well spent.
@TheLostWon I think he meant to put the chickens in before he pressed the button otherwise there would be no point to the doors.
Well...this guy gets an A for the day.
And everybody is like : Come on, chicken, you can do it, boy!
Did anyone else find it calming to watch a ton of wool burn?
Dude that cannon part was put into a video called "Minecraft The Story Of Mojang" the 2 part short!
Finally, after years of searching, I found it
What were the chickens for? It seems a bit pointless having all that happen then you spawn chickens in and have them step on a button. Very good work with the rest of it. How long did it take you to make all that?
Would've been excellent if the chicken eggs were shot out of a dispenser trigger by... something. Then again I'm not sure if dispensers were in this version. Great job though!
That was awesome. Plain and simple
that chicken is like 'holy shit what did I do... D:"
This was the first Minecraft video I ever saw. Ever.
That was amazing, however I believe you could have preput the chickens in the pen, and open the door with a pressure plate, say...activated by a boat or something.
Wow. You just gave me an awesome idea! Waterpark! With a log ride!
@cook66 this video was made a while ago before farm mobs didn't despawn and before dispensers were released
...And the chickens would have despawned if he had gotten too far away in that version. The machine opened the doors to the pressure plates.
I miss when Minecraft was like this.
Bad news: The fire/wool step probably won't work anymore.
Good News: The chicken step can now be done automatically with dispensers.
Think about it guys, he could of just walked up there and thrown the chickens there without going through all that crap.
Congrats dude.
That's really cool!
That was uh.... that certainly took effort to make.. trying to decide if that was epic or just.... a really really long method to blow up a creeper.... If so, I'd recommend just walking up to it next time
imagine how pissed he wouldve been if the cannon missed
Love how the whole thing is self automated... then it all comes down to a freakin chicken lol xD
Minecraft is what happens when the people from Half Life discover legos
xtreemly elaborate well done that must have taken 4 ever to build thats the most incredible thing i have ever seen in minecraft wonderfull vidio it was beautiful great job
awesome building...one thing I gotta say is it's not really Rube Goldberg. I think if you had the chickens hatch without having to throw the eggs, then it would be a perfect Rube Goldberg design, however still an awesome build, regardless.
@AOZMONSTER ya well you gotta give him some credit and i dont think dispensers and eggs were added in this version
How long have you worked on this? It can't be easy! If you do something wrong, or you wanna try it out, you have to start again!! But now, like it is, it is AMAZING :D!!
Never send a chicken to do a man's job.
This was the defiencian of epicness
Great shot kid! One in a million.
nice painterly pack :D
the door was the event that happened at the end of the sequence, he just needed to add chickens into the pen because of there short life span...
technically its not a rube gold machince if you have to do something other than look but great job props to you
That was incredible! And complicated.
