Jim was obsessed with the child abductor/killer. He knew he was thrown into a dark world. He couldn’t handle it tho. I forget the killer dudes name but you can find it. His lyrics...if you give this man a ride...sweet Emily will die.
Jim Morrison was the personification of cool. Very intelligent, handsome, charismatic and an amazing voice. He was the complete package. Add three equally talented musicians to the mix, and you get one of the best bands EVER in rock and roll history. Bar none.
Amazing how many people don't pick up the whispers or the door slamming shut. I had a kick-ass sound system in my car, once upon a time.... music sounded amazing. I will swear upon my death, the best way to hear music is a stellar car audio system. to hear everything as intended YOU must be centered in the speaker range. Hmm, I'm kind of hard core only because I've experienced the differences and limitations of home audio. Ear phones are the next best thing. The difference between ear phones and car audio (other than the obvious) is spatial. Car audio gives you the spatial... ie; you can better pin point where an instrument is coming from, as if on stage. Does that make sense?
I feel so blessed to have grown up in the 50's 60's 70's and 80's.. Music now days just can't compare..The Doors and Hollies were two of my favorite bands.
Imagine being a 12 year old living in the desert Az and the storm sounds comes out of your transitor radio you are Hooked for life. And every time you here it , it takes you back 50 years to the exact place you heard it for the first time . Ahhh life lived through music
@@mike19054🤣 ha ha ha yes he was!👍 but the band overall are unique and awesome! No other bad sound like them and in my opinion they were ahead of their time! I Love the Doors!
It's one of my favorite songs by the Doors. Being a 75 yr old this brings back memories from the 60s. I still say we had the best music groups in this era. So many I can't count. So awesomr!!! 💖
What's amazing is that this song dropped almost exactly 50 years ago, April 1971, and still enjoying it just as much as then. And with youtube, in April 2071 they will still enjoy it, and in April 2121 they will still enjoy it, and the reactions will be about the same. .
"There's a killer on the road, His brain is squirmin' like a toad." One of the creepiest, most chillingly evocative lines in the history of Rock music. Great reaction and analysis as usual, Abracadabra. And yeah, The Doors had their own sound and vibe. You can never mistake them for any other band. Please check out "The Changeling", from the same album. Be well, brother.
I grew up with this tune and I'd never enjoyed it more than sitting here watching you listen to it. It was like we were sitting across from each other. You put the song into a perspective that I'd always missed, because I just took it for granted. Great hangin' out with you. Thanks.
Well to me it's an existential song. "Into this house we're born, into this world we're thrown" - there is really no reason why we are born in certain place or time that we know of, it seems random. Just like the killer on the road picking his victim, if your kids take long to get into the car he's gonna catch a different car. Again no rhyme or reason to it. This is what he means by raiders on the storm, the storm is the chaos of life and we're trying to survive it. In his last verse he is saying that love transcends life itself (The world on you depends; Our life will never end).
Thank you for that beautiful thought. I’ve been listening to the doors since I was a little girl, I’m 36 now, and I still find their lyrics are always up for interpretation! That’s why I love it so much h ! I loved to hear someone else has deeply read into lyrics ❤️🇨🇦 hope for humanity
The bassist on this album was Jerry Scheff, played for years with Elvis. Morrison was a huge Elvis fan and he was excited to do what became the Doors last album
Thank you for these reactions brother. I’m a fellow hip-hop head but always keen to expand my appreciation and knowledge of all music. I’ve really enjoyed learning alongside your choices - and riders is masterful!
Yeah Doors! Great song, great reaction. Love the way Ray Manzarek tickles those keys man. Absolutely iconic. And you are 100% on the money man with the idea of doors of perception. The band had read Aldous Huxley and others, and definitely meant the name to be about perception. That and all the acid they did! I like the deer who showed up at the end of the video!
This is a brilliant mood piece: sultry vocals, keys like raindrops, classic spooky tremolo effect on the guitar, and a swinging jazzy groove on the drums. Jim whispering a vocal behind his singing is genius, so creepy, like the hitcher's whispering in your ear. The 3rd verse doesn't have the same narrative, wish he'd hit us with a killer (literally) verse there, but hey, it's still very cool. I guess you could say the 'gotta love your man' lines have a kinda link, in that you never know what might be around the corner, so make sure the ones you love know that you do.
precisely. its exsistential wisdom & points very much to the american experience. the road is time & fate. the hitcher motif presents itself as the choice of temptation. evil. take him for the ride & one or culture itself will consume oneself. contrastly, ride forward & seek love, wisdom & family & one finds endurance & survival. both individually & collectively as a culture.... the is a very deep & mediative ode to survival in the West now & going forward (down the road). RIP morrison.
They are so talented and different there's no telling how much bigger this band would've gotten had things turned out differently. Jim morrison was a hell of a writer. The bad never had a bass player, Ray Manzuric played the bass on his keyboard a the organ together he'll of a talent. This music from this time period is absolutely timeless it's to bad that today's music doesn't make you feel like this music makes you feel! The doors is a band named after the book “the doors of perception” by Huxley. It is about taking mescaline. The whole idea is that our brains limit their own capability, cuz we are also being hunted by tigers. So if you eat mushrooms and try to tie your shoes, then you start to see how being completely aware of everything is actually harmful.
