I have one of these. One. I have to be honest, they seem to be difficult to find. I can't believe the number of PA you have! I promised myself, regardless of price if I ever come across a variegated PA it's coming home with me. I love the forest you have.
Those trunks are gettin some girth! That’s fantastic! I am finding my PAs grow better in winter here. Under the lights with the house staying above 68F at all times. Outside, with nights at 40-50F, they slow way down. And look at you being nice to the critters. 3 miles? Daggum
Perfect video about Portulacaria afra. I wonder if I put 5-6 pieces of P. afra together, if they would grow together as one, like they do with Ficuses. Have you tried something like this? Well thank you!
Looking good and i can't wait to see if you catch them critters! I am just about to hit the task of pruning back my Jade. This year i'm going to try and leave a couple alone so I actually get some decent trunk thickening - I'm far too eager with the clippers sometimes!!!
Hey Dave, love to see your work on that P.A.´s. . i just came across your channel and am wondering, where exactly in the US you are living.. Would be interesting to compare the growing-season to ours here in Berlin, Germany. And can you also tell what exact light you are using in the winter time ? thks . Best , Juri
Hello Juri! I live in the upper midwest in Minnesota. Pretty cold winters still, down to Mid 20's for highs in January, plenty of 90s and humidity in the summer. We are getting milder winters and hotter summers.
Our 2 cats catch voles in the yard, they play around and toss them in the air until the voles finally rest in peace. I don't recall voles ever bothering with my trees, instead deer are the enemy to my (pre) bonsai practice. Dave, do you have any American Hornbeam in your collection?
“The meadow vole is an herbivore that feeds on the leaves, stems, roots and seeds of wetland grasses, sedges and rushes. In winter, it switches to eating tree ...”. They seem to like my trees.
Hare Krishna. So amazing show
Excellent job Dave! All the interior branches expose really make this Forrest pop. Your haircut is nice too.
Thanks!
@@DavesBonsai We should always admire and respect the positive, and complement when is valid.

Came over from TBZ. Your PA are looking great.
Nice Dave, the three trees look great together!!
Night terrors & day time marauders. Never ending story.
The endless loop of portulacaria afras. Prune, plant cuttings, prune (cuttings), plant cuttings, prune… 🤣😂🐦💙
🤣😂😆
Nice Port forest. Meticulous pruning by your surgical hands will make the forest grow up into an interesting forest.
Nice❤❤
I like the trunks

Yeah, winter under lights we get fantastic growth too.
They look good Dave maybe you can do a big Forrest with all those cuttings
That just might be in the cards.

Hey, when you catch them, just which way do you intend driving to let them go????? At least you don't have my mink problem. They ate all my koi.
Oh no! I’ve never heard that before.
@@DavesBonsai Its quite a scene. See you next Saturday at MBS
The more you prune the more ramification you will get with portulacaria.
For sure! 😊
Foist
Can you explain what is a voles

@@DavesBonsai thanks Dave good luck with the traps
Dave discusses pruning a PA but doesn't he show him pruning it
Chickens can keep those rodents away and poop breakfast
PA’S EVERYWHERE!!!! - Guessing you don’t want any from me 🤣
