Skeeter 23 On Water Review and the Art of Boat Negotiations!

  • Those of us that live in the Northeast are typically not used to bay boats. The thought of going 10 miles offshore in one of these low deadrise, low gunnel boats seems counter-intuitive. In Florida and other parts of the country though, the ability to navigate skinny water and occasionally venture offshore is a must.
On this February date, we did just that on my friend Jason's boat (you'll hear me calling him Jay throughout). Joined by John Skinner, we tried and tried inshore for bonefishing, fishing the flats off Miami in often 2 feet of water. When the bonefish did not cooperate, we headed about 10 miles offshore and fished some of the reefs off Miami (again, with minimal luck).
There's also a great lesson to be learned in how Jay negotiated down the price of this great boat. He saved about 25% over the listed "boat show special" price at the 2023 Miami Boat Show.
Last, but not least, Jay keeps the boat at a "High and Dry" marina in Miami. I've never experienced first hand how these marinas work - last minute of the video shows that.

I live and work in western NY 7 months out of the year and live in SW Florida the other 5 months and it seems most of your followers are from up north not realizing how much of an efficient fishing platform a bay boat is in this area. You can get through the creeks and Mangroves and catch Snook and Redfish in 1 1/2 to 3 feet of water or travel nearshore which is 10 to 20 miles offshore and fish the reefs in 2 foot or less waves. Definitely not just a Florida sand bar boat as a commenter suggested in one of your other video's. Still some of the boats on this video seem priced pretty high.

Yeah I would avoid human error with a dry dock. I'd prefer my trailer.

Yes.. the art of negotiating. The dealers job is to take your money and your job is to keep it. Don't give in and never show any excitement.

Nice boat was thinking 120k was high still think 100k is high for a 23ft bay boat think I’ve seen the 2024 going for close to 85k probably without all the electronics and trolling motor so 100k is ok not a great deal

Nice bay boat. However, still way way overpriced for a 23' boat, IMO.
