  • Sad news today from the wife of Gene Woody, that he has recently passed away. Gene was the overnight deejay for radio station WHB 710 in Kansas City during most of the 1960s when I was growing up. Gene held down this position while during the daytime hours attending med school to become a doctor. His wife informed me this morning of Gene's recent passing, and I humbly offer this video as a small gesture of appreciation for him being a part of my childhood...and I know, a part of the lives of many others who lived in Kansas City in the 1960s and were up all night listening to the great Gene Woody. One of the best of WHB's "World's Happiest Broadcasters."
The music you hear in this video is a small selection of WHB jingles that I have in my collection, all produced by PAMS of Dallas.

Oh my gosh this is so awesome! I wish my dad could have heard that before he passed! This is so great, thank you for doing that for my mother

Thank you for the kind words. I grew up listening to WHB in the '50s and '60s. Then in 1970, I left Kansas City after high school to pursue my own radio career (which had actually begun in KC already at KUDL). After 51 years away from KC, I have recently returned and am thrilled to be back home. They say you can never go home. Don't believe them. You can. And I'm so glad I did.

Kansas City is a wonderful town, spent most of my life there, it definitely is a city you can go home to

There used to be a show you could pull in on an AM station when you were out in the desert. The show was called The Night Caps and it had its own Nighty-Nightcap theme song.

Well, he not only stayed up late, he stayed around late.
