I just recently bought Imperator: Rome because of the update and it happened to be on sale on Steam this weekend, so I'm totally gonna use this series as an excuse to learn how to play!

Hey, I was looking for a Sparta campaign to watch! By the way, I don't know about in this timeline, but in the era before the Achaemenid invasion and the Peloponnesian war, Sparta and Argos were both rivals. Maybe you should take that into account when playing, and betray them later on (I mean, I'm sure you will anyways, but just saying for roleplay purposes).

I went right in with no prior training, into a Sparta campaign. got stomped by the helots and the boys. I have been watching tutorials for a week straight. I will be following your playthrough, and will start mine again soon. My plan is to conquer the Peloponnese then invade Italy. Integrate the Roman culture into mine, to have the best heavy infantry the world has ever seen.

Sparta was the first run I did when 2.0 came out currently hold all of Greece and right not trying to take the entire Aegean region and kinda be the byzantium empire if it was formed by Sparta at least until Rome gets bored in the west

I just bought Imperator Rome. I'm fascinated by Greek classical antiquity. Thanks for this tutorial. I also like you pronouncing Makedonia instead of Macedonia. In fact "C" should always be pronounced "K". Like the letter "V" in Latin should be spoken "UI". Being Portuguese my language comes from Latin and it's good to know where words come from. I just give you an example. We have the word "Oliveira" for "Olive tree". then we have "Azeitona" -> "Olive" and "Azeite" -> "Olive Oil". This is because we were occupied by Arabs so the correct should be in Portuguese: "Oliveira (Olive Tree)" -> "Oliva (Olive)" -> "Oleo (Olive oil)". Not Oliveira -> Azeitona -> Azeite. This could lead us to hours of discussion, among other examples. It's just good to have memory and words have meaning.

Sparta's a good pick. Looking forward to it. (BTW, as an ancient history major and student of ancient languages myself, I sort of thought the hard "c" in Macadon enhanced your credibility. But I can see why you dropped it.)
It was a surprisingly hard choice for me, but the Makedon pronunciation triggered a lot of people (for some reason 🤷♂️).
I made a video under a different channel a couple years ago for the game Pendragon by GMT games. I got a little flack for my Latin pronounciations (hard c's, soft v's, "ae" = "eye", etc.). It was a hard habit to break.
It truly is. On a different note, GMT makes some great games.
@@ericneff9908 It s especially silly that this is a problem for people given that English C can be both hard and soft and English breaks the rules on when which is used fairly often. at least in American English.

Considering that in Sparta every single Landholding Citizen was a trained Elite Soldier with an estate to finance their own upkeep, training and equipment at least in theory Sparta would be the most structured and militarized society in existence. That is however only if you do not count the Slave class of Helots and the "Free People" who weren't part of the Spartan Citizenry.
And then you could compare their system to ideal feudalism.
Sparta was completely militaristic, there is nothing that comes even close to it.
North Korea could be close second.
I prefer Makedon over Macedon, personally. It is not just the Ancient pronunciation, it is the modern in their own language. We just do the soft c and mispronounce it and call it right, doubling down on some fuck up centuries ago.

Me too. I like the Greek version because it is a Greek word. Which means that is how you are suppose to say Macedon.

I chose Sparta as a good first one to get back into the game. Rome has been overdone a bit.

Nice episode, I'm kinda hyped! Also, there's ancient Greek and modern Greek, so however you pronounce stuff, it's technically "wrong" in one or the other of the two... Just go with what works for you :)

It depends on the week. If I have a guide on Mondays, then this will be Wednesday & Friday. If there’s no guide, then Monday, Wednesday & Friday.

Nah, call it makedon; the people that are mad are the Bulgarian Slavs that call themselves “Macedonians,” despite not living in Macedonia or being Macedonian in lineage. Every greek makedonian is annoyed with how their history was stolen from them and how the international community actually encourages it.
