Hello hello! Thanks for tuning in for another episode of the Unemployed Diaries! For the next episode I am thinking about doing a more in depth look at my job search. Would you like to see that? Send me your suggestions for the next episodes in the comments below!
Look at you conquering a “Tower Moment” and experiencing growth afterwards! ❤❤
Also really really appreciate your honesty about expenses. Our culture really frowns on talking about money & it’s helpful to see what I’d need to do if I find myself jobless some day.
Thanks!! 😀 It feels weird talking about money since its so taboo but I think it should be more normalized.
Good luck with your journey! I relate with the “corporate jargon” stuff you mentioned. I’m lucky to have a great employer and a job I’m good at, but it’s tough to stay motivated in a 9-5 when your passions lie elsewhere. So I admire you for actually taking steps to make your dreams a reality!
It’s so cool that you already had an emergency fund and budget set up! Do you have a plan for retirement?
Hello! I have a traditional IRA from the job I lost in my 20s. I just let that sit. The job I was just let go from I had a Roth and traditional so I plan to move that under my personal bank account. Once I get a new job I’ll start another retirement plan if they do an employer match. If they don’t or if I decide to try to work for myself I will probably start putting back 3-4% into my IRA accounts. I actually was planning on starting an investment journey this year but now that I don’t have a job I have to push that off unfortunately.
Hey there! Subscribed a few weeks ago. I too am changing careers, while mine isn’t due to being laid off, I keep waking up knowing I need to do something. I am in the process of starting my career as a virtual assistant, freelancing. You got this!!
Hello! So happy to have you join me in my little corner of the internet! That sounds like an exciting career change. Are you trying to get work on upwork or fiverr? Best of luck on your new career change!
@@RachelElizabethW I’ve tried Upwork but nothing from that! Honestly it’s a struggle to compete when so many people only want to pay 5$ an hour. I actually found a client through facebook. I took a 5 day VA challenge that really helped.
Idk if you’ve been watching all of the wfh career videos like I have on UA-cam 😝 I feel like I’ve watched them all! It was the Digital nomad kit, Hannah Dixon. If you want to check it out
Congrats on landing a client! I was browsing UGC options on Upwork and they seemed to pay low too. Yes, I watch a lot of WFH content on here too. I haven't heard of Hannah Dixon though. I will look her up!
Hey there, I’ve been unemployed since Nov and struggled with the depression from losing my job, took 3mo before I tackled getting my resume put together. I actually hired someone for that who did an amazing job. I then started applying and noticed so many applying for the same job. I then learned you need to be one of the firsts to apply, and then I started getting some interviews. I came here to say that I just received an offer from one but suddenly I’m feeling a little anxiety about working again 🤦🏻♀️. I always loved my job and routine. I’ll work through this. Maybe I just need to throw myself back out there and it’ll all come back again. I’ll keep you posted but wanted to share since this could be something you too will experience if you end up going back to the corporate world.
Hello there, thank you for sharing. Losing employment is such a scary time. I am happy to hear you got an offer! Congrats. I would be feeling anxious too. It isn't easy to start over again in a new environment with new people. I am sure it will get easier over time though. You got this!
I hate that whole office speak thing. Glad I'm not in that anymore. I've never heard trench warfare before. That's just awful.
I’ve only heard it once thankfully but it seems to be a generational thing (gen x/boomers).
