    Canucks need to move Mikheyev. I hate to say it, but he's dead weight. Canucks may need to retain some of his contract in order to move him, but it'll free some cap space in order to keep some priority players. Thanks for posting, Trev.

      @@kempnercanucks Fair point. Mikheyev will have to be a throw-in as part of a larger trade. If some team wants Hronek or Lindholm badly enough, they'll have to take Mikheyev off the Canucks' hands, even though Allvin will probably have to retain some salary, or throw in a sweetener.

    i wonder if canucks might sign and trade lindholm? it will suck to lose our ufa's for nothing.

    I think a large piece of the solution would be to allow Podkolzin and Bains to step up into the NHL. That way Blueger and Joshua don't eat up too much cap space and we can secure the larger names.

    I think you need to bring the defensive core back that was their strong point all year try and get everyone back 5x5 for big z 7.5 x7 for hronek and 2x2.5 for myers. Hronek us a number 1 d do you actually think 8 is too much because it's not its just canucks can't afford it. I bet our captain wants him back too. Lindholm is gone I think and I would package Hoglander for necas

  • @carcar12468
    @carcar12468 22 дні тому

    I'm neutral about trading Hronek, but I believe the interview incident is exaggerated. Hronek's demeanor may seem gruff, but I don't think he meant to be rude. Upon reviewing the interview multiple times, I felt Hronek tried to respond courteously to a somewhat intrusive (rude) question, but the interviewer persisted unnecessarily. The media's response to what he perceived as an attitude was unprofessional and I feel was the turning point for Hroneks frustration. While Hronek could’ve been more professional in his response going forward, so could the media. Given the circumstances, I don't fault him for his reaction, and it shouldn't be a reason to reconsider having him on the team.

    • @kempnercanucks
      @kempnercanucks  22 дні тому +1

      I appreciate your insight on the Hronek interview. What concerns me more is a potential long contract with him. He’s a solid D but we can’t afford to make a mistake here

    • @wainber1
      @wainber1 22 дні тому

      Whether Hronek was in the wrong, any reporter who asked him questions was in wrong, or the view is somewhere in between, there’s no doubt that interview was rough. There is only so much cap space the Canucks have to sign those players whose existing contracts expire in June. Whether Hronek should be one of them isn’t clear although I do see the Silovs and Zadorov re-signings as good starters. Goaltending and defence help the Canucks get as far as they did this postseason, with Silovs having elevated his game in the postseason unlike the Winnipeg Jets’ Connor Hellebuyck during very many of the Manitoba team’s past 10 playoff games. The lack of solid defence against the Golden Knights last postseason and the Avs this postseason hurt the Jets so badly, with no game the Jets have, after a 5-1 win of the first game of the April 2023 Jets-Golden Knights playoff series, played during which they haven’t allowed at least four goals.
      Hronek this postseason didn’t have a great performance via 2 points but a not-so-good -3. Yes, plus-minus isn’t a perfect indicator, but that means that when he was on the ice, the Canucks gave up 5 goals. Where are the Canucks will trade him or just not extend him a qualifying offer still remains TBD because the expiry of his contract makes him a restricted free agent with the ability to exercise arbitration rights should the Canucks, or whatever other NHL team he’s traded to, extends him a QO.

    • @wainber1
      @wainber1 22 дні тому

      @@kempnercanucksHronek furthermore didn’t have a great postseason, with 2 points but a -3 over 13 games. It may be that he’ll improve over time but who’s to say he necessarily will with the Canucks come playoff time? That he’s a pending RFA with arbitration rights means a need for the Canucks to extend him a qualifying offer should he not be traded before that contract has expired. The Canucks after all can’t take defence for granted, having allowed vs the Preds 3 or more goals in just 2 of 6 games but vs the Oilers in 6 games allowed at least 3 goals. The Canucks allowed 4 goals or more in just 1 game vs the Preds but vs the Oilers allowed that many goals or more in 4 such games. I see improved defence for the Canucks as crucial to getting over that conference semifinal hump although to what degree, if any, that will happen, this off-season into next season still remains TBD.

    • @carcar12468
      @carcar12468 20 днів тому

      @@kempnercanucks I understand your concern completely. All I meant to say is that whether or not the interview looked bad on Hronek’s part, it shouldn't be the sole reason for considering a trade. Additionally, considering it was his first season with the team, and given how difficult it can be to find a right-handed defenseman in the league, trading Hronek would require having another right-handed defenseman lined up who can perform at least half as well as he does. Which may prove to be a difficult feat.

    • @wainber1
      @wainber1 22 дні тому

      I tentatively like the list but Demko injury stints show a need to keep goaltending a priority. It may be that the cap hit that per season DeSmith asks for is beyond the maximum that Canucks' management wants to offer him.
      This postseason left me, as a follower of Canadian NHL teams, excited about the future of the Canucks. Yes the Canucks ultimately didn't get to a conference final but they didn't go down in their last playoff series without a fight against an Oilers' team that may very well make it to its first post-2006 Stanley Cup final.
      The Canucks no doubt have decisions to make on which players, among those whose contracts expire in June, to keep and which players they should let walk. I can't think of an NHL team that doesn't have at least one contract of a player with a June expiry date.
