This kinda shit is why UBWA is in my top 2 favourite abridged, tied with Hellsing. So much effort to put into it to not just make it funny, but make it make sense while being hilarious.

The fact that "I killed my son!" is more devastating to him than "I killed Kennedy." is funny-
i think it was less devestating and more suprising, since the kennedy think was just not thought about but the mordrid thing (sabers evtl son (i think it also depends on the depiction of the story, here i think it could e interpret with arthur/saber than accepting him as her son since in the fate canon both guinevier and arthur are girls) was just much more against what ariar was anticipating, the kenedy thing is just that that joke was got to make, maby a bit surprising since it wasnt anticipatet but it didnt go against his anticipation (i how its understandable what i tried to say, english isnt my first language)
also, if i remember correctly, in the main part i got a depiction of arthurs story from, merlin, wich isnt really good as a source since many things were changed, mordrid wasnt even relatet to arthur so there im also a bit unsure in my knowlegde if it was really originally the child of guniver (or so) and one of the other roundtable knights or if i´m mixing up memories at that point

Archer is *not* Shirou moving through the routes, he is a very specific version of Shirou as described in this episode. A Shirou whose close to the Fate route but whose feelings for Saber were never returned.

@@clarisacalderon9555 If I remember correctly, in everything but HF, Shirou always has to have sex with the main girl of that route for the sake of a mana transfer so that said girl or Shirou himself in the case of UBW has more than enough Mana to properly fight and finish the war. Most likely, this wouldn't change in the Pseudo Fate Route that Archer EMIYA went through. However the context of it would. It would go from an event that both provides plot armor for the coming battle and allows Shirou and Saber to solidify their feelings for each other in a way that can't be denied to instead being more so just a pure business transaction. Well, kinda, the feelings were probably there for the both of them, but Saber probably never accepted them since she was too hung up on her own situation.

@@Airiertrue also I just noticed this while watching your video and I've never noticed this but have you ever noticed the way Lancer dies in both bladeworks and the Dean animation actually reflects how Lancer dies in his own life Lancer dies to Gilgamesh during the Saber route by by fighting him off for 7 days just like in his myth how he fought Meb's army for several days but in unlimited blade works he supposedly 'dies' but gets up and stabs Kire when he approaches Rin who Lancer 'dies' right next to only to be killed by Lancer who he thought was dead and the process repeats with Shinji. This reflects how his body was treated and his original legend as after he tied himself to the stone with his own guts soldiers were too scared to approach him because they weren't sure if he was dead and when one soldier did he was surprised when Lancer killed him despite being 'dead' this terrified the soldier so much that they were too scared to even approach his corpse until they saw a raven land on his shoulder. Is this something common people notice I only did I've seen this video

Canon Shirou is actually pretty intelligent, he's smart enough to figure out Gilgameshes identity before anybody else in the Fate Route, and he explicitly knows that the name Angra Mainyu is from Zoroastrianism, it's just that his worst decisions make him seem dumber than he actually is, with only the context of the Anime Adaptations Shirou appears stupid, but in the Visual Novel it's made clear that his more illogical decisions are solely the result of his survivors guilt
This is why Wisdom and Intelligence are different stats in DND.

Shirou isn’t very wise (obviously because he’s still a teenager) but he’s got above average intelligence, I’d say probably 6 or 8 for Wisdom (if it can go that low) and 12-14 for Intelligence

The nightwing joke is because archer made an analogy with himself as batman and shiro as nightwing in the previous episode
And to be precise Archer originally made analogy that Shiro was Robin to his Batman and in previous episode he questioned if Robin had finally become Nightwing (which what Richard Grayson, the first Robin, became when he started his solo career as a superhero).

Shirou is a lot more like Nightwing than Red Hood because he sees his future self (Archer/ Batman) and doesn't want to become as bitter as that person.

Logan, the writer behind this has stated that this Archer is explicitly NOT Deen archer or Deen Shirou. He is the same archer recorded outside of space and time. He does not have memories from other routes, only his own life.
Hi. I'm that writer. This is correct. EMIYA is always the same EMIYA from the same starting point and isn't any version of Shirou we know. He's from his own Fate-like route.

Shiro's lines at the end were specifically a reference to his version of the aria. Which, at least in this case, does serve as a pretty good refutation of Archer.
Correction:this Archer is from the universe that is CLOSEST to the fate route.....the biggest difference from the fate route however is that archer failed to convince Saber to give up on the grail,she destroyes it anyway cuz it's corrupted and can't grand her wish in a satisfactory way but it also say's that the basement scene DIDN'T happened in his timeline so archer also didn't faced his trauma head on and in turn Saber didn't faced her's.....

Shirou is basically creating the Aria for his UBW chant at the end there, the order is a little shuffled, but the unique portion of his Aria is all there just waiting to be properly organized

The title of the episode is also a joke the ep 0 title was 'speak of the devil' (where we were introduced to Archer) and this episode where Archer identity is "revealed" is named 'and he shall appear' so a little joke about him being "Actually Satan" and the whole 'welcome to Hell' bit in the beggining is also a call back to Rin saying that his Reality Marble was Actually Hell back in one of the earlier episodes. (Sorry for the paragraph, just had a lot to say)
Archer is canonically from a world very close to the Fate route. Not 100% identical, but the main difference is that Archer Shirou wasn't quite as close to Saber. Its almost like if the Fate route had two endings and the one we got was the true ending but Archer got the normal ending.
Its close enough that you can say that Archer's experiences match up to the experiences of a Fate route Shirou with deviations being rounding errors.
5:50 The joke is earlier Archer called Shirou Robin, then a few episodes later asked "What... has Robin graduated to Nightwing and started taking issue with Batman's methods?" or something to that effect. Archer in this case being Batman.
So if i remember the lore right, EMIYA/archer IS a recorded in the throne of heroes cause as he mentioned, he did die. Most people dont realize/forget he made his contract with alaya basically after/as he was dying, thus being eligible to be a Gaudian and servant.
The real confusing part is fgo where he basically remembers his past summonings, so its like "??? okay youre chill and nice so we have to ASSUME you're from the UBW route"

His characterization in GO is almost entirely irrelevant to Stay night's continuity, but the reason for that is because counter guardians have personal temporal continuity. Normal Heroic Spirits are effectively copies of themselves printed from the same source code each time they're summoned, but counter guardians (who aren't recorded the same way) appear as their actual selves between summons without being reset.
He also didn't make the pact while dying - he would have died had he not, but after making the pact he resolved the situation and lived an extensive life (20+ more years) before being executed. His role as a counter guardian didn't begin until he died (though, technically, it had already begun and was always in place from a certain point of view).
This whole payoff is made all the more funnier with the knowledge that Shirou is also voiced by the guy who does Kirito in SAO abridged, because of the detective bit
Also, the command seals joke with Kirei feels like some kind of joke we'd get if Project Mouthwash made a Zero abridged

@@Elseba921 Canon Shirou does do some smart observations which kinda foreshadow his relation to Archer. He also does snarky thoughts he keeps to himself which foreshadow his relation to the snarky older guy who doesn't care about being polite anymore.

45:08 Wrong, it always was a part of Shirou's character, in the Visual Novel it's extremely obvious Shirou has Survivor's Guilt even if it's never outright stated, I've read the VN at least 4 times already (Yes it's that much better than the Anime Adaptations) so I'd know if Shirou's Survivor's Guilt was something added later, it wasn't :V
You don't even need to read the vn to figure out that Shirou has a survivor guilt,you just need to watch the anime with open eyes to get it even if it's not outwordy stated (just like with archer being shirou from the future by the way)

Its more acurate to say EMIYA is Shirou from a failed Fate route. One he did mostly right, but failed to romance Saber.
It really helps to rewatch all of the previous episodes before each new one. I’ve made it a tradition to do so, as a way to refresh my memory and just simply enjoy it.

Counter Guardians were always heroic spirits. This was established as in the Fate/side material book which was released alongside the VN. Page 56. It explicitly names Counter Guardians as a variant of Heroic Spirit.

Archer thinks that he is "Batman", that is why he call Shiro "Nightwing" as in the fact that Nightwing ends up replacing Batman whenever Batman quote "disappears." And since one of the earlier episodes he calls Shiro "Robin" this would be the evolution of the character with training.
You know when you think about it, it's really more so Saber's Harem than Rin's Harem in the abridged cause most characters that met her love Saber apart from this version of Shirou, Kazuki, Scum, Lancer, and Gilgamesh
Rin's the one getting all the tail, not Saber.
I mean it is canonical that everyone has the hots for saber (becuz shipping/fandom joke). But Rin is definitely the one getting a Harem. Even Lancer, in his final moments, starting hitting on/getting hit on by Rin a bit. I mean... it's like she said. "THIS IS THE BEST TIMELINE!"

The "that is why we are called that" is a reference to Gilgamesh calling shirou and archer "faker". Because in gils eyes they make knock of broken phantasms, yet in reality they make phantasms that can rival the quality of the original. Also, by archer not having his own phantasm, and instead copying other phantasms, as the one who owns all phantasms, gil believe them to be plagiarized versions of himself.
Broken Phantasms aren't copies of Noble Phantasms. A Broken Phantasm is specifically when you break a Noble Phantasm down into mana to use it once at a higher rank, destroying it in the process. Except in the cases where he does this, Archer's relicas are still Noble Phantasms.
I mean that doesn't change that its also an in-joke for the abridged that hes making fun of the series name.

I actually did ask if they intended for the DEEN anime to be Archer's original timeline (which is like the Stay/Night route but different), but they said it would not work canonically and they only used the DEEN footage because it's the only animated representation of the Stay/Night route.

Shirou's survivor's guilt was a very explicit and exposed part of Shirou in Visual Novel, it just didn't get adapted well in anime

There's a pretty fun theory that the reason Archer gets so exasperated with everyone in UBW Abridged is that he's specifically from the official Fate/Stay Night route, not the abridged route.
So not only is he fed up because things aren't playing out like he remembered, but also because people are acting a bit out of character.
The Nightwing joke is a callback to the repeated Batman and Robin jokes they made throughout the series.

In cannon EMIYA is testing shiro to make him stronger in preparation for the future BUT also to see if his choice was the right one and that he will chose the same think even by knowing his future, that is way in the las episode of UBW when EMIYA retunes to his duties as a counter guardian he say he regret his choice but still it was the right choice to make.
Fun fact, there was supposed to be a Rider route, Illya route, and most shocking of all, there was supposed to be a Shinji Route in the original game.
The Nightwing reference refers to the last episode where Archer makes a Batman vs Nightwing metaphor between him and Shirou.
So, to be clear, Archer doesn't come from any route that has been depicted, in the game or anime adaptations. He comes from his own route that is very similar to the base Fate route, but with the exception being he never helped Saber move on from her wish, and she in turn never returned his feelings. This is still true in Abridged series and can be gleamed by Archer's narration not matching up with the DEEN shows plot (and changes made in the anime).

Project Mouthwash doesn't get enough attention for how good their abridged series are. I consider them as one of the best three abridged channels along with Something Witty and Team Four Star. And the whole bit with Archer's World War references reminds me a lot of SAOA's bit where Kayaba constantly made movie references.

Personally I've always viewed UBW as Archer rigging the thing that no one important dies if Shirou proves that he's "strong" (wrong word for it but I cant think of anything better). Because I cannot look at the end of UBW and think that the fact that all the pieces are on the board in the exact right spot to kill Gilgamesh is not him, their fight is basically a training round! At least that's how I view it.

while it isn't stated often or even very loudly, it is canon that the reason Artoria didn't acknowledge Mordred as her son is because she didn't think Mordred was suitable as an heir to the throne (personally i headcanon that there was also probably some repressed trauma concerning how Mordred came to be). It was never a personal thing it was just another sacrifice made for britain.
I suspect she sort of used Mordred as an outlet for her own self-loathing. The real problem wasn't that the son was too different from the father -- rather that they were too similar.

i think we believe the man arthur based on was a general in roman empire.. who pushed the celts out of most england (which was england, irland, scotland, and walles) his name was lucious arthorious... there was alot of stories that did not survived about him and we dont know when it became from a general to a king.. what i do know is the first book about king arthur called arthur the great / the big and written around the 12 centuary
since then by rolling storytelling they created allthe knights, the kingdom and the tailored story we bearely knows today
I think shipping is a problem whenever it gets to be where you shove it down someone's throat or just be dick to someone because you don't like their ship. Looking at you certain folks in the hoyo/fate/other communities. It can be cool if its just cute and for fun, but there is always those who take it too seriously.
I love how when it comes to the big reveal Shirou actually figured it out, or at least suspected so far back from the berserker fight. Yet they still make him a little...dense or slow when it comes or slow on other stuff.
Also I think its clear that this version of Archer, while similar to fate route Shirou, is still not the same because he doesn't get Saber to love him. He probably did go through the Fate route as Archer which is why he does remember it and kind of does the same thing the archer in his story did.... I think, heroic spirits are weird.
You can tell Logan had a lot of fun putting all the major lore drops when it comes to Fates concepts and archers dialogue. then they just threw us that lines about archer and Kennedy, it was hilarious.

Archer is basically a variation who couldn't save Artoria's heart and in turn couldn't save himself because without Artoria to confront him on his own issues he never self reflected.
Also? As someone whose first intro to Fate was the Studio DEEN series? I hate that people rag on the animation which STILL HOLDS UP. Sure, they made some oddball creative choices to weave in some things from UBW(namely Archer USING UBW) and HF(nearly outright stating that Sakura was Rin's sister), but it wasn't as bad as people make it. And frankly, the music in that series is so good that Project Mouthwash keeps using it throughout UBW Abridged.

Cu is Lawful Neutral, not Chaotic Good. Objectively. They actually give servants canon D&D alignments. Lawful Neutral is his.
Also, the other reason Kirei forcing Lancer to do the Mario Mario bit makes sense in retrospect is to tie into what this episode said, that there are certain things the Grail wouldn't deem necessary for servants to know, so the only reason he would know that bit is 1. he had watched the movie after being summoned, or 2. as we see, his "master" forced him to do it as a bit for his amusement.
It makes sense that Cu would run around naked in a CHRISTAIN CHURCH given his era

Gil wouldn't be an issue if the HGW was going as intended. But yeah Bazette is at least able to fight weak servants, plus she can use Fragarach... Only human able to use a noble phantasm besides shirou, and hers is the real deal
