    Thanks for sharing, diesel's are becoming the rich mans truck these days. To complicated and to much matinence = more possible issues and costs. I'm going back to gas myself.

      I think a LOT of people are feeling and thinking the same way, $10k upgrade, then "do I pay thousands more to delete" or "when do I have to pay thousands to fix emissions?" "When will the fuel system fail?" After any of that you pay a lot for the supposedly better truck.

    Great video man! I’ve got a 2020 2500 hd with the 6.6 gas. When I bought it I figured it would be just fine towing my travel trailer and I’d upgrade in a couple years to a diesel. After 10k miles my fuel mileage increased from 15mpg to 17mpg. Towing my 6500lb TT with roughly 2k worth of tools etc for work I see 9-10mpg. I think it’s a much more capable truck than I expected and can’t say I’ll be getting a diesel down the road. The 6.6 gas is pretty impressive. I added a flowmaster 50 series hd muffler also and I think it helps as my 50 mile average best went to 18.5mpg. And it’s not obnoxiously loud.

    Excellent video! I traded my Ruby Red 3 stage paint 2015 Ford F250 Lariat Diesel Crew Cab for a Shadow Gray 2020 Chevy 3500 LTZ Crew Cab 6.6L gasser in March, 2020. There is no comparison. The steering and handling of the Chevy is light years better than the Ford. I am not knocking the Ford as it is a good truck, just not as up to date. I did not think that I needed the diesel as I pull a 30' foot travel trailer. I may actually trade in for a 33' 5th wheel as the Chevy has the 5th wheel prep package. The Ford would be over loaded for a 5th wheel with under 2,000 lbs of payload. I do miss the exhaust brake and diesel fuel mileage. I am not a fan of the new Ford aluminum bodies. The Chevy bed is awesome! I recently got 19.0 mpg not towing while traveling from home through the back roads to the campground at the Jersey shore.

    Nice video. I have the 2022 Denali Gas HD. I get a lot of compliments but then they always end it with saying it’s not a diesel. Ridiculous to have a diesel just to say you have one. Traded a 2019 F250 diesel for it. It was way more truck than needed. I’m in Texas. Flat for the most part. I have no livestock. I have a KZ camper and it’s about 8000 pounds. Way more than enough truck. I’m not in the habit of wasting money.
    Great video.

    This is the video I’ve been looking for! Pulling the trigger on a bigger truck soon going from a 2015 Sierra slt to a 3500 to pull my current 8000lb(full load) camper. I’ve been wanting a duramax if ever we upgrade the trailer to a fifth wheel but watching your video with this truck it’s hard to really justify the extra 10k, the extra filters on a diesel, just the overall regular maintenance of a diesel is hard to justify if it’s not “worked everyday” as you said.
    Thank you again for the informative video, makes the decision a bit easier!
    Cheers, from Alberta, Canada

      I like diesels mostly for the way they sound, but also I like their towing capabilities. Diesels are awesome but they cost ridiculous amounts of money. The Chevy V8 has a nice strong and masculine purr to it.

      @poonbandit9924 2 роки тому

      Definitely no need to go fast! For me It gives a bit more confidence to be able to get up to speed on the interstate or pass easily, as well as the exhaust brake is awesome. All this being said I’ve towed more with the old 6.0 gasser then I have diesel as far as time in seat, and I went and bought a gasser for myself, it does fine but you know a trailer is there and it isn’t effortless, but it goes better then my 1994 Cummins does(fairly stock don’t crucify me)

    I have two gassers a 6.0 in a 2500 Chevy and 8.1 in a 3500 Chevy. Believe me the 8.1 will pull with 455 lbs of toque. I would buy the 6.6 gas over the Duramax. . The 8.1 is a proven long lasting engine. Because the 8.1 is a big block with a longer stroke then the 6.6 small block , I think the 8.1 would out last the 6.6 . I have 250,000 miles on my 8.1 and the engine runs like a new one. If the 6.6 holds up even close to the 8.1 it a good buy.

    • @Icutmetal
      @Icutmetal 2 роки тому

      That 10 speed is great, and more importantly than an additional 11lb.ft. is where the power is applied. Larger displacement engines will naturally make power lower in the RPM range, where trucks can use it the most.

      @@Icutmetal both engines peak torque is the same 4000 rpm. I am a loader operator for a Copart yard and get a lot of real world feedback from auto haulers on what’s good and what’s not. The 6.6 gas/6 speed combo has been nothing but positive. Haven’t seen a single Ford 7.3/10 speed yet, nothing but diesel. I personally know 2 people just in my little circle that are having some funny shifting issues with their 10 speed trans, one in a 1/2 ton and one in a 3/4. Perhaps the haulers are getting the same feedback. Naturally this just puts a bad taste in my mouth. This is just my own experience I know everyone has a preference.

    The ten speeds like to run WAY warmer than most with the ULV fluid. Factory spec is 210-215, but they don't red line till past 260. They are a bit rougher when cold, so the first few minutes feel more like the six speed, but they are pretty darn smooth when near or at operating temp. 197 looks too cool for me lol. Mine is in a Ford, but it's the same transmission and same fluid, just different bellhousings and shift profiles for the different torque curves. Ford runs a water to fluid cooler/warmer. I'm not sure what the GM setup is on the 10 speeds. I would assume it would be similar to drop costs with suppliers.

    For the transmission as you said cooler is better, but normal operating temp is generally 175+\- 25°F. Around 225° I md start to get a little concerned and usually anything about 230° is when you’re rapidly wearing parts and varnishing fluid. Contrary to popular belief it’s better to slow down to keep air flow to the cooler or stop the vehicle but leave it running to circulate fluid and allow the transmission to cool off.

    • @poonbandit9924
      @poonbandit9924 2 роки тому

      @@stricklyq5613 yes that can contribute or cause high transmission temps especially if you don’t have an external transmission cooler and are relying on coolant and a small cooler in the radiator. However shifting excessive amounts on grades/stop and go traffic, or excessively heavy loads while towing and climbing grades will cause very high transmission temps as well as having fluid that is varnished and not cooling as well already. That being said I have never had trans temps above 210° while towing on any of my personal trucks. My uncle tuned the 2.7 eco boost in his ford (downloaded a bad tune with horrible shift points) and his trans got to 230° towing my boat, we pulled over set it to stock and let it idle to cool off, the transmission didn’t go past 207° pulling the boat for 2 hours. Along with that I had to build the “Twin disc” brand true automatic transmissions in a Union Pacific semi a few years ago (divorced transmissions connected by a torque tube) and the freeze frame data at point of failure was 250°+ and they were completely smoked and had blown a ton of fluid through the vents.

      I own a Chevy 2004 3500 crew cab long bed 4x4 with the 8.1 (496) it says to use regular gas, I have tried putting premium gas in it, it didn't make any difference on fuel mileage or power. So I only burn regular gas to save money. I wanted the gas to save money on repairs. I would just have to hate to think about spending 5 to 10 thousand dollars in repairs. I did my research the 8.1 is pretty much bulletproof. I can buy a brand new 8.1 motor for $4,900. or a good used low mileage for about $2,400 . My 8.1 has a Allison 5 speed transmission and 4.10 gears . 330 hp and 440lbs of toque . It will pull anything I need. Which is my tractors the heaviest is 9,600 lbs and loads of round bales of hay on a 24 ft gooseneck trailer that weighs at 5,250 lbs. It may be old school in fuel mileage it get 6.5 mpg fully loaded and 11 mpg empty on the highway , empty around home and town 8.5 to 9 mpg . I agree with all the reasons to go with the gas engine. If I bought a new truck 2021 it would be the 6.6 gas. But I had read that Chevy and GMC will be coming out with another big block gas motor in the very near future. Probably to compete with the new Ford big block gas 7.3 which is getting good reviews. I have seen serval gas 6.6 Chevy 2500 and 3500 trucks around my area . Everyone seems to be happy with them.

    I’m in same situation with the DEF up here in Alaska..,already had my DEF tank replaced twice on my 2020. Been looking at this gasser, dealer here has a 2022 AT4 3500 gas inbound. I also have a big 5er…what’s the tow sticker ratings, payload, pin weight and max tow on your truck? Thanks in advance.

    Sorry if I missed it in your video but what is the payload for your truck? Like you I have a RzR and thinking of getting a toy hauler (loaded would be 17k lb) and I wondered how much of that is hitting the pin? Thanks! Nice video

    Hey Q, great video. Wondered how you are liking the truck so far. Looks like your truck handled that camper well! Question about the rear leaf springs. I imagine you were pushing down on your upper overload springs but do you know how much your camper set down your rear end. My trailer is similar and I haven't pulled it yet but was curious. Thanks, man. Be safe.

    I too went with gas! Got the new 2020 Chevy Silverado Custom 6.6 gas... Diesel just not like they use to be! My own opinion!

    I get that this is not representative of a long trip and that you're probably running slightly rich in the cold weather, still, I wouldn't like to see those fuel numbers very much. Even with a 36 gal fuel tank you'd be refueling every 200 miles or so. On top of that you've got a tranny temp of 189? In 9 degree weather and rolling hills? Florida's flat for sure but what's the temp gonna look like when it's 75 to 80 degrees hotter? I don't know, maybe there's a thermostat that bypasses the tranny cooler in cold temps and opens up when it's warmer... would be nice to see an updated video of how the truck performed on the long trip south

      Watch the second review numbers are better we ran 1800 miles to deadwood. 8mpg my diesel always got 9.5 on the same run

      My question as well Mark! Towing in the summer with temps in the 90's or 100' s pulling up hill, what's transmission and engine temps?

    nice of you to test it out. I like videos with a real test. I am thinking of this 6.6. I currently have a 2014 5.3 v8 sierra pulling a 28 ft travel trailer. I would like more power.

      Nice power I think you'd be very happy with the stability. Had a 26' hydraulic fishouse with a half ton a few years ago went to a 3/4 ton it was night and day difference.

    Great video! I did the opposite of what you did. I went from a gas to a duramax and I have no regrets. Especially now that they put a ten speed. But hey to each its own.

      You are 100% correct don't know your location but weeks of -25 and it seems to go into a fit. With that 10 speed make sure you change transmission fluid every 25,000 friend is a diesel tech at a chevy dealership.
