Strange...that Panther vs x2 Shermans duel starting at the 1:00 mark? I don't get how both Sherman's weren't toast--esp the one between the two buildings that didn't turn to face it with it's thicker frontal armour!--and even the one that was would have easily been penetrated by the Panther at that range...weird.
Yeah well one could ask exactly why the two were immobile instead of well... covering with terrain forcing the Panther forward (assuming the panther wants to destroy them) and at that point the configuration of the crossroad alone would have easily meant that they could surround it and kill it. Shermans were faster, turned quicker, their frontal armor is underrated. Their optics and time to identify and engage the target was excellent while the panther had a bad transmission, poor turret rotation and bad time to identify and engage targets. Of course it had other advantages but Shermans and allied tanks in general often engaged them with great success. Like at Dompaire for example.
Interesting! Well done! Too seldom these battles between 12th and canadians/brits are depicted. The real goegraphy of the battles is suited for this kind of game (also FPS I would say). Check out The Ace Destroyers videos about the historic battles.
this is how you should use the GEM engine if you want a proper large scale WW2 RTS game like sudden strike or blitzkrieg, this engine has so much potential! bigger scale and less detail i'd say. i made some mappacks and mods back in the days for mowas1 and 2. even tho i love the graphics and details of gates of hell, the AI cant handle it too well. so much you can do with this engine if you just make it less complex (also means better performance). bring in openAI and develop the ingame AI so it actually works as well. endless fun!
The game must be on easy mode. None of the Allied tanks or AFVs are mobile. Static tank to tank combat was not how it was done. In the opening round of shots, in the ambush, where the panthers should have been at least mission killed, the very next action for the Allied tankers was to back out of their initial position and either move to get flanking shots or assume a secondary defensive position. They would not have sat there, static, like bowling pins.

The Canadians armoured units were based on British lines and those were Sherman Fireflys armed with the 17pdr guns so were very capable of taking on Panthers plus the antitank guns were 17pdrs but everything was badly sited so basically rubbish pretty but not realistic. The Americans armed their Sherman’s with long 76mm guns later but were not as good as the 17pdr , I am pretty sure it was a Canadian Firefly that killed Wittmann and his crew , fantastic weapon .

I was interested in getting this game before, but after this video I see how terribly flawed the AI is in this game. I've seen much older games, aka close combat, have so much better AI. What a waste with these graphics.
