@ the infinity book with infinite pages. If you can lift “infinity” pounds then there is no bound to your strength. But then when the plot needs it, he will “appear to struggle” holding up a building. No consistency. I think writers come up with things that “sound cool” but they are just stupid. Edit: did you think I was commenting on your post? I was agreeing with the original post
Even though I do agree that Superman beats Shazam, I do think that Shazam is close enough in power to Superman for it to be a close fight, and for Shazam to even have a chance at beating Superman.
Feats are a bad way to gauge who's stronger unless they both tried them. Also, the popular characters (Superman, Hulk, etc.) will always have more feats than less popular characters (Shazam, Juggernaut, etc. So judging feats will always go in favor of the bigger named characters.
Shazam always best a Superman that is holding back, he never defeats a Superman unleashed. Shazam has not survived a star exploding in his face, he hasn't survived a Black Hole or a single Big Bang. Superman has done both of these things multiple times, as well as Superman contained a Black Hole in the palms of his hands. Superman travels fast enough that he can reverse the flow of time No matter how you go about it, Superman's top end feats dwarf anything Shazam has ever accomplished in any category.
@Mr10before9 - The video you’re commenting on just described Billy literally punching with such force, that he created his own black hole. His entire arm ripping through it. Unlike the cute little dust speck of a magnetic field that Kal held. A speck that could “potentially” become a black hole and Superman required Green Lantern’s help to contain it.
The most ridiculous power of superman is that the writers give him whatever power he needs to win. Even one shot powers that are never used again. Does he need to be psychic? suddenly, he is psychic. But just this once. Does he need to see across the universe? Suddenly, he can see across the universe - but only this one time. superman's plot armor is as thick as it comes - far thicker than any other. It breaks all rules, but always just this once.
Exactly! The Superman character is valuable intellectual property, and after awhile fans get bored having him smash the same villains. Science proposes theories about the multiverse, and comic writers incorporate that into their stories, ditto the quantum realm. I suppose as long as modern science marches forward Superman will have frontiers to conquer.
Fun fact: During the golden ages of American comics, a comic book company called Fawcett Comics created Shazam, who was known as Captain Marvel at the time to challenge the likes of Superman. A few decades later, DC Comics bought over Fawcett Comics and owned Shazam.
Not nearly the same. Superman holds back the power HE CAN CONTROL. But it so happens that the biggest weakness Superman has is the fact that he can't tap his real power. There are tons of comics where he's training with monks, gladiators, Aliens, and whatnot, seeking to achieve perfection and learning to control his whole power... And he never could. Reason being is he's too afraid of himself. That fear is also the reason why he never gets the Green Ring, or the Blue One for that matter. So, not only Superman holds back, but his mind won't allow him to use all his power even if he wanted to. When he came back from being beaten to a pulp by Doomsday, he travelled the galaxy trying to forgive himself for not being able to use all his power and save all those people and get himself killed in the process. Superman is WAY stronger than Shazam by the mere fact that Superman can't use all his power... Shazam does. And still, they're "equals".
@@robertoj.9509What? That's not true at all. Superman as he was young it was hard for him to accept that but as how he was growing up he eventually accepted his alien heritage and that allowed him to unlock his true potential, a potential that is pretty much limetless. He is more than capable realising his true power, he learned how to control and how to keep himslef in control. He showed his power against Shazam who laughs and Supergirl who laughs
@@rokomarkov3077 Hm? I think you're just reading the most popular comics and skipping those random comics that not many people know about... If you were following all his comics you'd have learned that: 1. Right after his Death, he went to seek for training to try and unlock his true power to avoid another Doomsday scenario. Mongul tried to help him, but at the end he couldn't. That's when he learned Torquasm-Rao and Torquasm-Vo, two kryptonian martial arts that would allow him to "tap" a little bit of that dorm power. 2. Recently, like 2 or 3 years ago, he went to train with Wioska. He was, once more, trying to reach his max potential, and again, he couldn't. His mental barriers wouldn't let him. He might have accepted his heritage, but he's afraid of his absolute power. In Final Crisis they explain this. 3. In Green Lantern comics, we already saw Superman wielding the blue ring for a short period of time, a ring that was lend by Saint Walker because Superman fell to despair. It's explained there and then that, yes, Superman is the embodiment of hope and he already brings hope more than any of them, but at the same time his emotions and fears and his responsibilities don't make him a good candidate. Saint Walker offers training to "polish" these things, and warns him that he will spend a lot of time away from Earth, but Superman refuses and returns the borrowed ring. Also, it's good to mention that, technically, blue lanterns aren't powerful in terms of "power level". Their rings are kind of a "support character" which boost and motivates people to increase allies powers, and protects them from emotions or releases them from control.
He explicitly explains it. He defeats Supergirl and shazam, both, at the same time. I mean that's not even close, that's two very superpower beings being defeated by one.
Seems like DC is doing everything they can to just keep making SM ridiculously OP in every way possible. Pretty soon, he'll be able to destroy entire universes with a blink. A flick of his finger will shatter a planet.
Actually this is really close 😅 Superman always holds back, but lets not forget that Billy also holds back, maybe even more than supes because he is a kid with a golden heart. I mean, it always comes down to the writter but this match up is close enough that no one would argue with the result.
Except Superman not only holds back... He also can't use the full extent of his power. Each time they have faced each other, Superman hasn't been able to use all his might. As matter of fact, those mental barriers are so strong, that he couldn't break them not even when Doomsday was making him his b......
I agree with your assessment other than one power that is rarely explored and requires a really good writer to do justice. That is the Wisdom of Solomon. If Shazam was written well then he would realize fighting Supermen head on would be at best a stalemate. He would either know to deprive Clark of the sunlight he needs as his powersource or bring Kryptonite to the game. This is the one area the could cause Shazam to get the win. If a writer was able to integrate his power of wisdom in a cool and well written way. Other than that, I agree that Supes has greater feats and should come out on top.
7:56 thats.... thats not what that means... Atlas was the guy who holds the entire universe on his shoulders... meaning SHAZAM can keep up with most anyone, for almost unlimited time
I like to think of it like this. Superman has two layers of defense. His invisible 1 inch force field around his body and healing factor. If Superman were to be hit with a lightning bolt. The force field would protect him. However if he hit with a magic lightning bolt. The force field will not protect him. However the magic bolt does not effect his healing factor (unless the magic power is specified to do so. Like a poison or Hex spell). The reason for this is because Superman force field is base around things that would hurt him from this universe physical matter. However magic is from a different universe matter the force field can't read. However Superman healing factor works automatically and doesn't need to understand the damage just repair it. So in other words if Superman were hit with a normal lightning bolt he wouldn't even feel it. But if he were hit with a magic lightning bolt he will feel it but his body will heal faster than any long lasting effects.
@@theinsurance2450 that's why Shazam has hit him multiple times with lightning and not just once. Also ,in the "Injustice" series Superman killed Billy Batson before he could transform into Shazam by using his freeze breath rendering him unable to speak the magic word and blasting Billy Batson with his heat vision. Yes, Billy Batson was in costume but this was an older costumed "Billy"not in his immortal form.
@@lukas0643 no Superman's cold breath prevented an adult Billy Batson from making the transformation, leaving him vulnerable to Superman's heat vision. The costume was something he either made or had made. In "The Return of Black Adam" Superman's heat vision was about as effective as pepper spray against Black Adam and considering he and Shazam's powers are identical, one can assume that he also can withstand Superman's heat vision. So either Superman killed a costumed Billy Batson and not Shazam, or we're seeing a case of inconsistent writing in order to nerf Shazam, like marvel did with the hulk.
@ Yo what? What are you talking about who told you that Billy was an adult who made that costume when he can just say one word and turn into the real deal.
Superman isn't the one who first pulled the weight of the Earth, it was Shazam. He did it twice, once by himself and the other with Mary Marvel. In the old comics, during the Faucet Era, Everything that Superman can do, Shazam can do better and more. As an example, Shazam had to reset The Earth’s Rotation alone and by using chains he actually tied to earth, while pulling the earths weight. Superman's feat of bench pressing Earth for five days can be done by Shazam as well, simply because he didn't loose one of his ability or rather DC somehow didn't retcon it, but they also simply slip it under the rug - Shazam has literally infinite strength without using any other power-ups. The only issue is his unable to use it fully, just because Billy, doesn't know how to properly use the Wisdom of Solomon in his modern version (Albeit, Old Shzam - Captain Marvel, is a different story). DC will not make it so that Superman is powerful than Shazam directly because they know that the Shazam comics was so popular than Superman before that it will send a bad rep to them. But, there is a DC law so to speak, that says no one should be more powerful than Superman, his their Flagship hero after all.
Spot on Dan. Been watching your channel for a while. Always top notch comparison's. With a voice like yours you should get in the radio or be a sportscaster. Great voice man. That's what makes the channel.
Superman is overhyped. You forgot that magic is his weakness and if Shazam were to actually stop holding back and access to magic . Superman will cease to exist.
Your actually right here Superman has a vulnerability to magic attacks and Shazam is a magic based hero so if he were to use his magical attacks the supes should lose
@@kosianams4098 if that were true Superman should have ceased to exist for a long time since he's fought way more powerful magic beings than Shazam. You don't just think you can use real logic for comics and think you'll say something sensible. At the end of the day, Superman stands for something which is been established in the story of Superman. Go read some Superman comics you'll know what I'm talking about. Weak to magic doesn't mean magic can just defeat him and he's defeated magical beings on a higher tier than Shazam. I don't have to start lecturing you here so go read some comics. Go read story of Superman to be specific you'll understand what he stands for in DC. If you guys are the writers and you are using your real life logic maybe what you are saying might be true but you have no idea what you are saying here because you don't even know about the character you are talking about. Kryptonite is his weakness yet he's still around with all the kryptonites characters have used against him. He's weak to red sun yet he's survived red sun and he's still around. I'll stop here.
Tbh, I think Shazam would still win. The problem with DC is they will never let Billy win as he is not their a-list character. Superman will never be defeated. Another thing about Superman is his power level keeps changing to the point where he's stronger than even gods. Listen he gets his powers from the yellow sun. How much energy can he absorb truly? Writers basically make it seem like it's infinite amount of energy he can absorb. I guarantee you Superman can even beat "The presence' himself If it was up to some writers and Warner Brothers. This is what makes him kind of boring as his villains ultimately never have a chance. Another perfect example is The Martian manhunter. He has way more powers than Superman and their more advanced powers but his weakness or Achilles heel and fire? Come on Even though Billy has the actual powers of gods and is magic, they will still not allow him to beat their # 2 and maybe arguably # 1 character.
Well sorry to think that But This points don't make sense, just because he's their number one doesn't mean they make him the best, he's lost multiple times, those characters just have lesser power levels
You dont understand the character, or never tried to do it. Its not hard at all and when you understand it, its not about how powerfull he is, because he is the most powerfull superhero ever, and most powerfull being in the universe outside Multiversal reality warping characters. Core of Supermans character is that he is an inspiration... force for good that cannot be defeated, that always strives to do the right thing.... moral pillar of strength and rightousness that always does the right thing no matter what. As for tehnical part, Superman is a superpowered alien anomaly, a living solar battery, every second of every day he is exposed to yellow sunlight his body absorbs it and fules him making him more and more powerfull, that is the reason he ALWAYS restrains himself and hold back, any missuse of his powers could be disaster. And Martian Manhunter has more powers when it comes to quantity, but the level of his powers such as Strength, Speed, Invulnerability is no where near that of Superman. Lot of people complain if Superman is so powerfull why he dont beat everyone, tgat is what those who dont understand his character say. Those who do understand it they know, Superman every time he faces street level villains or planetary ones, he is trying to reedem those villains, show them the error of their ways and prove no matter how powerfull they are, force for good will never be defeated and will always be more powerfull, that is why he lets villains to punch him and throw everything they have at him and then he overpowrrs them. He always scans every villain with his microscopic and xray vision to see how they are built and how much they can take, and he uses just enough power to push them to breaking point, never careless and reckless missuse of using his power free and destroying everything and everyone. Superman always does the right thing.
@@RealisticAndTrue Yeah, and in some movies and books he gets radiation poisoning from absorb8ng too much solar radiation.... Come on... I know the character...There are alot that meet his symbol... The key thing is, he is DC's cash cow, period.
@@beehall3268 Last time i check that is Batman. And radiation sunlight poisoning was tampered with him being exposed to kryptonite. Allstar Superman story. Sunlight only makes him more powerfull. As i said you need to understand the character. Once you do everything is simple streight foward. And Shazam/captain Marvel while massively powerfull still falls short to Superman that restrains himself... Superman not holding back is very rare, and very dangerous. He only resorts to free use of his power when fate of the planet/universe on the line... usually it has to do with him flying into the sun and then unleashing infinite level of power. But if you are honest about trying to understand the character of Superman, my recomendation is look into the story "Doomsday clock" issue 12 Superman vs Dr. Manhattan
Shazam was way more popular than Superman when the comics came out, so popular they got sued because he was taking Supermans popularity away. They have been hating on Shazam ever since
@mlfitness67 They literally can make Shazam OP if they wanted to but they need Superman to stay the leader/face of the DC universe. Shazam can have so many opportunities to build on his past with wizards. SMH
The only reason villains can even hold a battle against Clark is because he always holds back, the whole not killing and stuff. In a scenario where he doesn't, fighting him will be the equivalent of fighting a steroid busted Omni-man.
Rick Sanchez vs. Professor Farnsworth. Right off the bat it's easy to think Rick because... he's Rick and even as a pickle pulled off crazy feats. Watch Futurama again though. Farnsworth just casually and absentmindedly does things just as nuts. I want to say one episode showed him having multiple universes in boxes on a shelf in storage.
That's what I hate about the inconsistent power scaling of these characters. In one comic he's bench pressing the weight of a planet for five days straight without any issue and in another issue he's having an issue stopping a falling plane or moving train. Plus, maybe I'm in the minority here but I prefer comic heroes to not be so damn OP.
me too, but it's just his planetary feat. Superman has several other mind-boggling multiversal feats such as breaking the barriers of time/space to infinity, holding a black hole in his hands, lifting a book of infinite pages, carrying Spectre who is as heavy as Eternity, absorbing all the crisis energy of the whole DC multiverse, defeating a 6D being and so many other feats. Not to mention even surpassing the DC gods by becoming the Cosmic Armor Superman. 🔥
@@steelbender8566 That's what I can't stand. That's too, op, imo. But if he can perform such extravagant tasks then he shouldn't struggle with other beings that he struggles with. The inconsistent power scaling is atrocious.
@@Joe_Friday yes mate, It's because Superman is DC's central character and He is the symbolic beacon of Justice and Hope as the writers always say. It's a way of saying that Superman will always find a way to win and overcome amidst all oppositions and threats, as long as there is Superman, there is hope. Also, Superman has long been evolving, He started as a weak base Superman during the Pre-Crisis era. From then on his power-set has become greater and greater eversince. And I think it's necessary because Marvel characters are also becoming too OP nowadays, MU writers really want a character that can match Superman's power set and they themselves are creating characters that are too OP just to give DC and Superman a run for his money. (there's god Dr. Doom, Rune King Thor, The One Below All Hulk, etc and Sentry, the character they really overpowered with inconsistent writing just to eclipse Superman.
Dr. Manhattan is on that list aswell. Kryptonians in general are ridiculous in DC and good Mid-level in Marvel. To be real a not even close would be Superman vs Franklin, vs MM, Prodigy, beyonder,... Superman's victory here seems to be based on one assumption; that the many times Superman and CM have been shown to be equal or near-equal in power in the past have all just been when Superman was taking it easy. If that assumption is correct, then so is the conclusion. However, if it *is* correct, then that means Superman has, in the past, often toned down his own strength to give other heroes a chance to "help" him with things he could easily do on his own; sometimes even in life-or-death situations. I consider that a bit of a stretch. If the assumption is *not* correct, then all of those encounters between Superman and CM, in which the two test their strength against each other count as strength feats for both of them. Therefore, each can do, strength-wise, what the other can do.
I might recommend the next time you do this to do order of power. The ability to play around with a black hole is impressive, and I would have that towards the end the ability to deal with other dimensions and universe creating events even past that. But I know it’s hard to get a sense of scale in a comic world where sometimes believability is thrown out the window and sense of scale is hard to judge without knowing the science
I hate that Dc owns Shazam they make him seem like Superman little brother when in reality Shazam is better in every way Shazam has no flaws Superman red sun magic and a rock is his weakness not to mention every body likes to overlook the wisdom of solemn like it plays no part in these battles in my opinion DC should sell Shazam to someone who will use him as he should be used. Shazam the Goat!!
They’re closer than you think. Superman like Batman are just far more popular and appears in way more books and always had an on going comic series. So he’ll pretty much have more feats than any other DC powerhouse. Look at the New 52. For awhile Shazam’s “comic” was just extra pages at the end of the JL book. Where as Superman had Superman, Action Comics, JL and Superman/Wonder Woman. And often made appearances in everyone else’s books.
How tf is it not close? I think Superman wins, but DC has spent over half a century of comics proving that these 2 are almost equals in every way possible. I’d actually argue Shazam is faster (BARELY), has a better healing factor, his wisdom of Solomon is a great counter to Superman’s skill and intelligence, and his magic lightning could be a huge problem due to Superman’s magic vulnerability and will help more than Clark’s heat vision and freeze breath. Superman wins due to his infinite strength, and his superior durability because his advantages in those areas are greater in severity than Shazam’s advantages, but suggesting this isn’t a close fight when Shazam has regularly fought on par with Superman (one time even oneshotting him) so many times is disingenuous. If this was with DCEU versions, then it certainly isn’t close
Great!, Superman was and will always be the BEST and the GOAT🐐🤘.... let's see the match of the best extremely OP characters of the century: Immortal TOBA Hulk vs Rune King Thor Dr Manhattan vs The Beyonder Cosmic Armor Superman vs Merged Death Seed Sentry
You know how I know Shazam is more powerful than Superman? Superman needed DC to buy out and own Shazam as a character so it could power Shazam down to make Superman more popular again. And this is factual.
The problem I see is most characters are created from Superman’s abilities. So it’s only right that people argue that all these beings are more powerful than him. There is an obscene need for people to always call out heroes or villains to be stronger than him due to that fact that he’s reigned king for so long. That tells you how strong he really is.
They both hold back when they fight each other though. And it's often Billy being brainwashed when they fight each other as well. The holding back argument is pretty stale by now.

Shazam eventually wins, because of the power of Zeus, it's infinite power just limited by his will to use it, so in the mind of a kid it gets limited by what he experienced in life, but as an adult, when he's seen some dark shit and even knows the real consequences of some fights, he can potentially power up to infinity and that alone boosts every other power, meaning he can get infinitely durable/strong/fast/etc, his limitations these days are just the writers.
But after damn near 100 years, Billy should be an old man near death. I guess writers keep him a kid, but couldn't he at least be around 22, like he was on TV in the 70's?
Shazam living the infinity book is like when dad “Superman” lets his 5 year old son help him carry that heavy item at home just so the kid feels like he’s helping.
Superman versus Shazam is the definition of as close as it gets. After having Shazam‘s powers superman admits that they are equals. But the truth is as written OG Shazam/captain marvel should outclass everybody including superman. Because he has no upper limit and much of anything. But let’s all be honest here. This matchup has been beaten to death even on this channel. So what’s with the match up yet again?

We all knew that for so long that Shazam or even Black Adam is NO match or little to no challenge if Superman goes All out fighting them without holding back.💪 Superman is the only superhero that can "leverage" or increase his power levels to infinity, depending on the need or power of the opponent - he will always rise and exceed it. Sup killed General Zod in the DCU because it's necessary, and he 1 shot World Forger, a 6D multidimensional being who could arguably defeat Dr. Manhattan. That's how powerful Superman is when not holding back. I hope you can also create a video of Superman vs his 4 Marvel copycats (Hyperion, Gladiator, Blue Marvel and the overrated- desperately overpowered Sentry - the joke who became godlike just from taking a "serum" from a lab, then suddenly can raise the dead, become immortal, can one shot Thor, tore Ares apart and break the Hulks bones ALL because he drank a serum.🤭😂😆) but I'm sure Superman will always leverage and beat the hell out of the fraud.🦸🤭
I don't know who would win but using the excuse that Billy is just a little kid seems wrong. Shazam has been around since the 50's or 40's. You're telling me he hasn't gotten more experience in fighting, more stronger over the years, etc. Superman surely has, right?
When they say Shazam has the power of each that makes up his name. I don’t think he has the entire power of each. It’s more like a portion of that power source. But I do believe that Superman & Shazam are essentially equivalent. Superman weakness to magic doesn’t mean he’s more vulnerable than a regular person would be.
Superman’s writing seems so chaotic that it seems the writers were like damn what can we come up with so he wins this time. No matter how ridiculous it sounds or actually is. How’s does physical strength translate to fighting your way through actual reality.

@@robertoj.9509And he can wear for example a Blue ring because he is the Embodiement Of Hope but he doesn't need a Lantern ring to be powerful
@@rokomarkov3077 Hm? I think you're just reading the most popular comics and skipping those random comics that not many people know about... If you were following all his comics you'd have learned that:

Superman isn't weak to magic, he is vulnerable to magic instead
@@FreeIndeed72What do you mean? He was in his immortal form what other form does he have
@@lukas0643 no Superman's cold breath prevented an adult Billy Batson from making the transformation, leaving him vulnerable to Superman's heat vision.
Shazam vs Hyperion
😂😂😂
Come on
Even though Billy has the actual powers of gods and is magic, they will still not allow him to beat their # 2 and maybe arguably # 1 character.
Well sorry to think that
But This points don't make sense, just because he's their number one doesn't mean they make him the best, he's lost multiple times, those characters just have lesser power levels

Blue Marvel vs Black Lightning. I remember reading somewhere that Superman said that Black Lightning scares him.
All of this revolves around the problem of DC never anchoring their comic universe in any kind of reality with laws of physics in them.
Saying it ain’t close it wild. Shazam has the powers of the Gods and Magic. Black Adam has bested Superman and Black Adam has been beaten by Shazam.

Shazam (DCEU) VS Steppenwolf (DCEU)
No contest, Shazam wins. Steppenwolf had zero chance against Superman and Shazam is his equal.

Superman is the only superhero that can "leverage" or increase his power levels to infinity, depending on the need or power of the opponent - he will always rise and exceed it.

They are equal! Unfortunately, Shazam always gets the shaft by the writers, because Superman is the favorite.
Superman, Batman & Wonder Woman (DCEU) VS Arrow, Flash & Supergirl (Arrowverse)
The DCEU Trinity against the Arrowverse Trinity. Who win?
When they say Shazam has the power of each that makes up his name. I don’t think he has the entire power of each. It’s more like a portion of that power source. But I do believe that Superman & Shazam are essentially equivalent. Superman weakness to magic doesn’t mean he’s more vulnerable than a regular person would be.
Superman strength has no limit. Shazam has the strength of Hercules. Plus superman is known to hold back..
Superman’s writing seems so chaotic that it seems the writers were like damn what can we come up with so he wins this time. No matter how ridiculous it sounds or actually is. How’s does physical strength translate to fighting your way through actual reality.
