@@ColfaxMathI was taught minus 4 then times that number by itself gets you the board feet of a 16 foot long log as your first log 9 minus 4 you have 5 then times 5 you have 25 bf. 6th generation logger and lumber person great video. Logged most of my life 17 years grading lumber here from southern Ohio
Also on dimensional lumber you can multiply the (height x width x length) and divide by 12 = Board feet, no conversions necessary, works on any size lumber.
It's the US Tape loggers tape. Good for construction as well. I think I have a review video for it on my wood channel Topsaw if you search Topsaw protape review
Doing what he is doing, would take all day to measure a load of 30 logs. Who handles 21 ft lumber or 15 ft lumber. I used international scale . Much easier.its all on your measuring stick
Very interesting...started harvesting cypress and needed some information....very helpful.
Glad to hear it was helpful
I might even be able to remember that equation in my head to use in the field! Thank you for explaining that - great video
Thank you

Hello
I am looking for eastern white pine logs in huge quantity for export please guide me where can I purchase this kind of wood logs .
I don't know where to get those logs
Great video. Bf equals money.
Very true
AND BECAUSE OF " FOREST SURVEYING AND ENGINEERING" I'M LITERALLY HERE HAHA 😆
Hope it helped
Did you figure out how many board feet of finished milled lumber you actually got from those 3 logs versus the scaled figure?
No I didn't, I will next time and make a video of it
You gain bf on a smaller log and lose on a bigger log the reason is the number of cuts to work it down to Lumber
greetings I noted that you said out west they use doyle scale ...... nope don't think so they scribner scale c
Ok
How much was it worth?
I don't know, it's hard to say, transport costs are high, the mill won't take them unless a Forester has done the paperwork for them.
@@ColfaxMath thank you.
@@makincash3337not much ur better off spitting and selling as fire wood my educated guses is those two logs worth 30-40$ nothing

True, certainly not for commercial logging. This is what I did when I cleared and logged my lot
Thanks!
Thank you
