I have a Pendunculate Oak in my Backyard. It’s in the White Oak family. Which has quite a few species.
I also have a small forest full of White Oak.

I love when I get to cut for the stave mill down here in Virginia. I genuinely love cutting white oak. So I take pride in laying every log out for him to inspect. I try and pick his ear and eye to understand what they do and don’t want. I know if they’re low they take whatever and if full get picky but sometimes it makes no sense. Every time the buyer comes, he leaves me more confused hahahaha. They want it cut in increments of 3’

Loggers like you, who get it right, are always a buyer’s and log truck driver’s top priority.

Your introduction was vey interesting 😊
Question: Does anyone goes and replants some new logs for the future?

Not a stupid question at all. Where I live, replanting isn’t a thing, but neither is clear cutting. If restorative forestry is practiced, the trees will regenerate themselves through shedding seeds. A well managed wood’s can be continually harvested between every five and ten years as the trees grow and regenerate.

Great to know about white oak , I new rain make corn 🌽 and corn 🌽 make whiskey 🥃and burn 🔥 oak barrel. In the 709 we don’t have oak or maple 🍁 moose feed on them soon 🔜 there out off the ground. Moose in the 709 bring in $378 millions to province every fall . 😊

No moose here, further north in New York by Jim Gordon. We have elk just south of here. I help a friend haul them out whole with the horses. The hunters love us.

So by the time you grade and deduct for any defect the seller is taking a shit kicking on his logs for sure.

The logger in me likes your perspective. All logs have defects, the key is to know how to work with the defects for material that works for the buyer and seller.
