From what I understand I think it's better to publish short stories with a market that has a dedicated audience, unless you have a huge social media following already. Those I know who have been successful with self publishing have done so with novel or novella series. The other thing if you wanted to publish a collection is to look at small press who specialise in short stories. Hope that helps.
