Use an exacto knife to sharpen the lead itself and then you only have to use a sharpener when the lead gets to close the the wood.

A little tip for the last one. When you drew the sketch or outline for a picture, just leave it and go back to it the next day. It helped me a lot in noticeing quite some mistakes and errors I made and hence got a better result when I finished the drawing. :)

Lachri Fine Art I am so surprised, I have been coloured pencil for only 1 year, I have been an oil painter for many years. People find it amazing that they don't realize that it takes many many layer to achieve the proper amount of pigment to the substrate. Intuitively I realized that with more and more layers, without pressing too hard gives you the proper texture and feel that you really want.

This is so interesting! Thanks for the tips. As a watercolor artist in my earlier years, I was told to not put in so much detail and stop sooner than later or the painting will look contrived and over worked. Loose, slap happy stuff you know. As a person who loves detail, my final mentor and teacher Master Artist Susan Harrison-Tustain, helped me know its OK to love detail in watercolor! She is the same. This is what excites some of us. Thanks again!

Thank you soo much! your tips are great, even if i'm not at all into realisim because i'm way too begginer and cartoonish...
Those tips really helps even if you are just trying to give your cartoon or comics characters a good coloring and shading!
the ones about finishing the drawing before you start coloring it, go in oval shapes and not in straight lines and working on a creation till its finished and not giving up in the middle are great tips!! i'm lazy and i really needed to hear that! it takes patient and time and alot of effort! thanks

I ran across this video at random but you are making me want to do real art! You do beautiful work and are an excellent teacher! I literally just pulled out a 30 year old set of prismacolor pencils for a project. so sad about the quality control. thank you for the thorough review and I can tell the difference in your two pieces.

Holy crap I love this video. I’ve been using colored pencils for the past week and was really frustrated, but after watching this video a lot of those problems went away
