I tend to avoid sharpening colored pencils because I feel like I'm sharpening away money. I'm cheap lol

Use an exacto knife to sharpen the lead itself and then you only have to use a sharpener when the lead gets to close the the wood.
Mofu
I know you werent talking to me, but I dont have a sharpener or an exacto knife
They're pretty cheap at any walmart, hardware, or craft/art store and are a pretty good investment in general.
I legit need you as an art teacher.
Agust D slayed me too man. Agust D slayed every single army
Agust D Slayed Me AGUST D SLAYS ME
Agust D Slayed Me we all need her a our teacher tbh
ikr
We all do :,)
I always have ideas for art that is greater than my current ability
That's pretty normal, just keep painting and drawing so that your skill level catches up to your creativity level :D
Ashley Carroll omg facts!!!
That’s why U push urself and that’s how u achieve professional art❤️:)
Same bruh samee
I'm the opposite lol I'm pretty good but lack motivation
This was helpful , I finished my first color pencil portrait the other day .. After watching this video , I see 2 of the mistakes I made and why I am not happy with the final result ....... You're an excellent teacher.
lisa your enthusiasm is so infectious x
There is such a thing as over working a picture, knowing when to quit is just as important as knowing that you're quitting too soon.
A little tip for the last one. When you drew the sketch or outline for a picture, just leave it and go back to it the next day. It helped me a lot in noticeing quite some mistakes and errors I made and hence got a better result when I finished the drawing. :)
Or you could just turn it round and hold it up to a light, just like how you would use ”Flip canvas horizontally” in Adobe Photoshop to see your mistakes.
@@elrilmoonweaver4723 this was very helpful
I've just started on this journey, but this is what I've been doing. It's amazing what you don't notice when you've just finished drawing it.
"Kind of looks like I shaded it in with my feet! " LMAO!
I think we have a challenge. lol shade an entire picture with your toes. lol
LOL
And it still looks really good! Not as artistic as the finished result, but it's a pretty good rendition of a little brown bird in subdued lighting. LBBs are kind of in the business of not being easily noticeable...
@@drgamer77 My Faber Castells are too expensive for that experiment. O.o
I never even thought about preserving the "tooth"! I was just burnishing then wondering why I couldn't get anymore colour on the paper...
:D
spidaminida me neither o.O
The jazz hands really make me want to go for that subscribe button. But since I'm already subscribed I'm left with this feeling of unfulfilled compulsion.
btw, Great video. Any one of these points can save a person days of frustration.

Bruh.
I appreciate your insight! Trying to come back from mastectomy and got some oil base pencils to be busy in a creative way... so will do the layers! 3-5! Thank you!
"there are no mistakes only happy accidents"
Mom, dad, I was your happy accident

Such excellent advice! Twenty layers? Wow, that surprised me, but no one can argue with your results! Thank you.
Thanks :D Yeah, I add a lot of layers to my work :D
Lachri Fine Art I am so surprised, I have been coloured pencil for only 1 year, I have been an oil painter for many years. People find it amazing that they don't realize that it takes many many layer to achieve the proper amount of pigment to the substrate. Intuitively I realized that with more and more layers, without pressing too hard gives you the proper texture and feel that you really want.
Thank you for this video :) It has the perfect timing for me, because I got Polychromos for Christmas and I don't know that much about using colored pencils. This video had some great tips and advices 👍🏻
I'm glad I could help! Congrats on the new pencils!!
lol same... kinda. I got Prismacolors for Christmas. And yeah, my art hasn't been looking so great. Have you done any tips on highlighting?
WoW and Tech Same and I usually only use pencil and I'm struggling with the prismacolors.
I used to be great at colored pencil but as of lately, I've been painting and haven't used colored pencils in a long time. I tried to pick it back up and I'm not as good as I used to be. This video really did help, sort of a reminder/reality check. Thank you so much! 🖤

best tip for me, thinking it's done when it's not. I think I just get tired. Thanks for the affirmation that colored pencil work takes time, time, time.
**looks back at half-finished drawing with straight lines background** :( Aw man, I messed up. *sigh*
Journey don't think of it as messing up, think of it as learning... All of this is getting tips for the next piece. Good luck!
dbf0702 You seem good at colouring. I really don't know how to colour.
#7: The inaccurate drawing example had me in stitches!!! I love your open, friendly delivery, looking forward to watching more!
I avoid sharpening my pencil because I always fear I'll sharpen it to much and waste pencil
My friend told her daughter the same thing, if they love her than she wasn't a mistake
Thanks, very helpful!!
This is the first video I have watched from Lachri and I'm hooked! She is SO supportive of an artist who may not be like everyone else or who has their own style while still offering professional tips. Super personality, too!
Great video, i learned alot of this. When i draw i must take it slower and more softer. You are amazing👍❤️
Love your videos, Lisa!
This one is really helpful! 😊
You are changing the way i draw and its amazing!!! Blending with the odorless mineral solvant is life changing, all these years of hating colored pencils. I have a new found love thanks!!!

Thank you for taking the time to help us with our art. The thought and time is very much appreciated. 💜
I thoroughly enjoyed the portrait video!! Loved watching the progress!💖
Types of paper...
Like the copyng paper that you buy 100 pcs once? The only type of paper that I know?
Lol, I saw other types but they're expensive and I'm a bad artist so I'm not going to spend too much on paper... Or colors... Or supplies in general...
You educated me, while entertaining me at the same time. Your 7 common mistakes artists make with colored pencils sounded so real. I am sure I have tried one or two of those myself. I have subscribed to your channel. You sound like a great teacher who I could learn from. I will check out your other videos and see what I see. Beautiful work.
Thank you for such clear explanations. It has inspired me to start again
Hill's and valey's nook's and crany's, you are a poet and just didn't know it. Exelant advice Lisa thank you

This video helped me soooo much!! Thank you so much Lisa!!!
I love how you say they aren't mistakes if you like how it turns out, I think it was a lovely message especially for beginners like myself 🙌 great video, thanks for sharing!
Great video. Very helpful. Thank you!

Awesome tips. Very very helpful. thank you very much
This is so interesting! Thanks for the tips. As a watercolor artist in my earlier years, I was told to not put in so much detail and stop sooner than later or the painting will look contrived and over worked. Loose, slap happy stuff you know. As a person who loves detail, my final mentor and teacher Master Artist Susan Harrison-Tustain, helped me know its OK to love detail in watercolor! She is the same. This is what excites some of us. Thanks again!
Sooo helpful. I’m a beginner and I’m doing poorly. I followed your advice and spent a couple more hours on a leaf study that I would have quit earlier. Those two hours or so made a huge difference on my drawing. Thank you so much. It’s probably the first drawing I’ve done that I was happy with
Some great tips here. Thank you.
Thank you! Great tips!
Thank you so much. This help me a lot!!
Thank you. This is very helpful.
Thank you, great information!
Nice tips for coloring. Enjoyed the way you explained techniques. Easy to follow your thoughts. Thank you, Lisa !! Marie
Lisa you're an angel. Thank you for this video! For me, #5 has been the most important to learn, and I'm so much happier that I'm doing it now. It really helps if you're prepared to have to take a long time in the first place. Then before you know it you're done haha
Thanks for taking the time to hit on so many mistakes us beginners make. I didn't know they were mistakes, I thought they were inexperience, which they kind of were. Now I can fix or not repeat them since you took the time to explain them. Have a good day. Donna
I've been using lead pencils for a while, and I'm ready to try something new. Your videos really help me out.
I know this is an older video, and this is kind of random, but I was looking for colored pencil tips for fine art and I just really like you and the way you talk and articulate and you’re just very nice to listen to... soo yeah sorry that was creepy I’ve never said anything like this to anyone online but you just really stand out for some reason
Lisa, I have learned so much from you. I can't thank you enough for all your tips and bit of knowledge. It has helped me so much. Each animal portrait I do is a little better thanks to you.

literally... 5 minutes ago...finished a small study on smooth Bristol and couldn't get many layers. Didn't know that a paper could be too smooth. Thanks Lisa

Thank you for this very helpful video!
why am i watching this ... i cant even draw
...You could if you worked hard enough at it.
You're probably drawn to it and don't realize it yet. I don't draw as they do but just a couple of months ago I felt like I couldn't draw
U can draw but maybe you need more time bcz no body is born and Immediately be able to draw the Mona Lisa 😂
Estupendos consejos. Gracias.

Great tips.....i`m using this quarantine time to really get good at colored pencil drawings ....thanks for your videos
Thank you soo much! your tips are great, even if i'm not at all into realisim because i'm way too begginer and cartoonish...
Those tips really helps even if you are just trying to give your cartoon or comics characters a good coloring and shading!
the ones about finishing the drawing before you start coloring it, go in oval shapes and not in straight lines and working on a creation till its finished and not giving up in the middle are great tips!! i'm lazy and i really needed to hear that! it takes patient and time and alot of effort! thanks
I ran across this video at random but you are making me want to do real art! You do beautiful work and are an excellent teacher! I literally just pulled out a 30 year old set of prismacolor pencils for a project. so sad about the quality control. thank you for the thorough review and I can tell the difference in your two pieces.
i love your very well specific explaining
Holy crap I love this video. I’ve been using colored pencils for the past week and was really frustrated, but after watching this video a lot of those problems went away
So exciting! Thank you for posting this. Subbed!
Glad I could help :D
Love this! just bought some prismacolors and the layering thing is something I've discovered myself already! I've just been dojnb colouring books atm!
