  • Home and Away was a T.V programme broadcast in 1984 and foccused on a group of Everton and Liverpool supporters, and trip to wembley for the milk cup final it was the first major cup final between the two clubs. The show also takes a look at the people who did'nt go the match and what they got up to back in Liverpool, Home and Away also features footage of the game itself and also reaction of the players from both teams. I have spilt the show into five parts.

Thanks golden vision 63 for posting this, I was nearly thirteen at the time and Everton daft ( still am, 31 years as a season ticket holder ), I was broken hearted at the replay but little did I know what was around the corner.
Watching this reminded me of how good the atmosphere used to be at the derby games and also the damage that Thatcher did to the families in our area.

Best time for football I think. A proper working class sport, not like the crap played today.

What brilliant teams Everton and Liverpool had back then, now it's Manchester who regularly dominate England. Hope Everton and Liverpool can be as good as they were in the 80's again. Would make the city look class.

i would never have thought it took until 1984 for the first time all merseyside final
get a coach full of males of any age, anywhere in the uk and they'll belt out "here we go " as the coach leaves-it's long overdue a comeback on the terraces

I have two theories on why the relationship between Everton and Liverpool fans has deteriorated to the extent that it has. This documentary was filmed a year before Liverpool fans went on the rampage at Heysel Stadium in Brussels, behaviour which led to the tragic deaths of 39 Juventus supporters.
As a consequence of this English clubs were banned from european competitions for five years (six years in the case of Liverpool), which then led to the breakup of the greatest team in Everton's history a lot sooner than it should have.
Liverpool and it's supporters seem to be not that apologetic about the Heysel riot either. It's been pretty much brushed under the carpet by Liverpool Football Club and it's supporters. That is my first theory now for the second one.
In the 90's Liverpool's great dynasty of success stretching back to 1973 collapsed in a heap. In the mid to late 90's for a period of about five years, Liverpool could not beat Everton in a derby for love nor money and their supporters did not like it one bit. Liverpool supporters went from kings to paupers in the 90's eating the breadcrumbs off Manchester United and Sir Alex Ferguson's table.
That's my reasons why the dynamics in the Everton and Liverpool relationship have changed for the worse. Of course with the internet culture now you have all sorts of faux bravado whilst hiding behind the pc and phone screen. All of this has led to the end of the "friendly derby" and it's only going to get worse. The younger generation of fans are even more bitter and twisted imo.

@paydofo83 It is the Everton fans singing " we're on the march with Howards army were all going to Wembley and we will really shake 'em up when we win the milk cup cos Everton are the greatest football team"

The reason Liverpool have regularly beaten Everton is the same as why City beat you last year and madrid are favs to beat you in the CL....money. Nothing to do with whether fans are friendly. I'm an Evertonian who has a spft spot for United. Its only football. It doesn't actually matter that much to me. its hte players who make the millions not me...or you.

goldenvision63 It’s a podcast hosted by Josh Widdicombe. Its focus is 90s football but they like to talk about football documentaries too. It’s well worth a listen
