Je suis extrêmement ému ce soir. Cela fait des années que j'écoute cette sonate. Des années depuis lesquelles j'ai écouté absolument tout les enregistrements que j'ai pu trouvé de cette sonate. J'en ai entendu des absolument excellents comme Maria Grinberg ou Vladimir Sofronitsky, d'autres moins bon, qui n'avaient rien à dire mais aussi bons enregistrements qui cependant s'additionnaient sans réellement que l'un ne sorte du lot. Je n'ai jamais été à 100 % satisfait d'une écoute de cette sonate. Même dans les meilleurs versions que je connaisse, comme citées précédemment, je n'étais jamais entièrement éclairé quant à cette pièce, je n'en saisissais pas tout. J'ai même fini par croire que cette sonate ne me parlait finalement peut être pas et qu'elle n'était pas faite pour moi. Pourtant, après tout ce temps je découvre cette version par hasard. Je ne sais même pas comment j'ai pu l'éviter jusqu'ici tant elle est mythique, j'en avais entendu parlé mais jamais je ne m'étais attardé dessus; probablement parce que je n'avais pas été satisfait par les autres enregistrements de cette sonate par Horowitz. Mais voilà, je pense aujourd'hui avoir trouvé ce que je considère comme mon enregistrement de référence de cette sonate. Le phrasé, la puissance, le lyrisme, la vue d'ensemble, les transitions... je pourrais continuer j'ai tout aimé. Je ne pensais pas possible après tout ce temps, de me faire réellement éclairer par cette sonate. Je suis subjugué, absolument stupéfait, ce qui explique ce commentaire beaucoup trop long. A mes yeux la meilleure interprétation de cette sonate. Merci beaucoup pour le partage et la restoration ❤️
The sound quality is incredibly good. Fascinating to realise that this is a live recording, as editing was not possible in those days. A few wrong notes make it even more thrilling. He played it on a 'normal' Steinway which I prefer to the somewhat shrill and tinny sounding instrument that was specially prepared for him in later years.
Many, many thanks, Gerard. My enhancement is based on a common method for creating the illusion of spatial sound, but I tuned it by mixing with the mono signal (mix adjusted in every case). I especially found that it has a good effect on 78 rpm transfers, as it helps the listener to better separate noise and music.

Honestly, in most cases, I prefer young Horowitz over the old Horowitz. Old Horowitz is only good for so called « sentimental » pieces like the kiderszenen. Otherwise, I think Horowitz kinda loses it sometimes when he got old.
