The true classic of flies that I'm sure everyone probably started with. Never leave home without them. Thanks for the tutorial.👍
That is a fantastic Hares Ear tutorial. Thank you so much.
Probably the best all round fly ever.
Loved the classic nymph fly dressing and exposure to a dubbing rake.
I love the classics!
great job I all ways like to watch you tie, and I love your humor
The Hare's Ear and Pheasant Tail are classics. So cool how they are tied primarily from one material, the only exception being the wing case on the Hare's Ear. The traditional ways are interesting.
Great tie,! Thanks for the share!
Just bought a dubbing rake because of this!
A favorite pattern with the fish (and me to)! I have always suspected that the full "tail" on the Hare's Ear actually looks like an extended abdomen (that can flex up and down as it "swims") to the fish and I tie my flies such that the combined body and tail on the fly is correctly proportioned to the thorax to represent the abdomen of the insect.
thanks so much for the tips as I have always used packaged dubbing...your mix looks a lot better on the body...
Really nice tying of a classic :). What caught my eye the most was, you're using a pair of "Fiskars" scissors. Been using the same myself since the 80's, and if you ask me, it's better than most of the other brands I've tried, even those "dedicated" for flytying. Still using the same pair after more than 35 years.
Beautiful fly! Do you ever use the real short fur from the ear itself?
So I bought a Dubbing Rake from the your shop just to tie this pattern Cheech. Love it. Only problem is, I keep raking up hunks of skin and flesh from Hare's Mask and completely contaminates the dubbing. If I go any lighter, I can't get any hair to rake loose. Think it is an old/sub par mask?
Great! now I gotta go and buy a friggin "dubbing rake" 😞
Just use an old toothbrush
How wide is the the turkey feather for the wing case
What doesn’t the hares ear catch?
What scissors are those?
What size hook was that? He didn't say.
Your A's did really well against my Cubs last night HAHAHAHA!!!!!!!
It's funny Cheech how people are buying these dubbing "blends" simply because they don't know where the dubbing comes from. To be fair the dubbing wouldn't be bad with a touch of Antron in it (though obviously not classic). But it's good to show how to actually get this dubbing. We really should be buying materials like hares ears and making our own.
No. 1 Strategy: Dead Drifting a hare's ear nymph I catch fish all day even if it is super pressured from the fisherman.
oh no americanized with gobble gobble bird.
