I've never painted anything tangible before in my life (not even with student paint really). I've all the sudden taken up a student project to mimic the style of Peter Paul Rubens using oil on canvas. Project is due by the end of the semester. Your tutorial helps so much ❤!!
Hello from sweden I have just subscribed. I have been doing portraits with colour pencils for few years and recently I have started to do it with oil colours and I am following along with this example that you are doing. I like the way you are explaining things.
oh man, Such a lovely painting , my fiend. You see, true beauty sends a wave down your spine and leaves you in awe. Everyone would love to leave a legacy like this of a wife or friend, or sister. Money comes and goes, but being able to achieve this is like writing a hit song, or obtaining a 6 pack, their beautuful in nature and extremely difficult to master. That is what makes them so beautiful and special. I was good in charcoal, I'm not sure if i could translate to color. I think half the battle is knowing your colors and how to obtain the myriad of tints and shades, its like your a chemist on the fly. I could draw it in proportion , but to flesh it out in full color is a whole new level
Fantastic detail Sergey. You have been my favorite for a long time and I learned a lot from you with portrait painting. Thank you for that. I hope you continue for a long time. Stay healthy with this terrible carona. That dog is lovelely.
Hi, this is a wonderful demonstration and I noticed the same issues in your work too! I struggle with the same when I am almost about to complete the portrait...the right eyes shades and shape are different than that in the photo, the lips are slightly thicker and shorter than in the photo...and I know it is hard to correct that...Well, very much inspiring video. I have not been able to pick up my brushes and colors due to one after the other very close family member's very critical illnesses...Hoping in near future I will start my painting activity again. Thanks so much.
You’re awesome. You’re very talented & a very good teacher. 👍🎨👏 QUESTION: Is it ok to use a proportional divider, or did you ever? As a novice I still have problems with scale, Length, etc. #Arteza.
The video started out well, saying what colours where, but then that stopped and all the complicated colour mixing that was going on in the background didn't continue ...
Mixing colors, especially with oils, is more done by heart than by some formulae... its because different brands use different quality of pigment so the results are not the same
dear hi, excellent portraits..still if you can say something to us in the area of color mixing ,for example, the suttle greens that is there on cerrtain areas of portraits and the blues so perfectly matching and does seem out of place etc if can tell us how you arive at them and why ,tthe mixing togeherr of colors and placement etc would you please do that,i know it takes hard practice, but still i could pick something up,greetings from india.gk
Well you don’t have to really, but it will mix with the other color... so its better to use multiple brushes at the same time. The oils won’t dry quickly so you don’t need to clean them immidiately
Hands...awk! I keep reworking the eyes and sort of get it. The shadows and planes on this painting are really great. I’m just a little distracted by the edges.
I'm out here doing paintings that look no where near that level of skill and spending months on them putting in hour upon hour. I love painting but the stress it has brought me is unbelievable
@@SergeyGusevArtist Cheers, when viewing online paintings can give the impression that paintings are been made in short periods of time. Gives me a realistic I can aim for. Thanks buddy :)
I’ve watched many of your videos and you’re usually very accurate with your painting but this isn’t one of the best you’ve done. There’s too many little things that are misaligned and they make you miss the innocent look of the subject. It’s a very soft but complicated face with the subtle shadows and fair skin tones. You’re still one of my favorite artists, thanks for sharing your work.
Sir , I really liked your talent, Sir can you please help me I'm searching for someone to make a sketch for me from last week but I didn't find any one

hello great tute, Cheers from Phillip Island Australia. Just wondering, what is the smallest canvas you would use for this type of portrait?
Great video, thanks you so much!!!
I like your house and your flower in house
Im tremendously interested in painting but i suck at colour mixing and detailing
Hello...Can you do a video on Mona Lisa painting?
Where did you get your reference from?
Excellent!
Thank you))
Beautiful dog!
Can you do a video tutorial doing with method on a way darker skin tone 🥺 would appreciate
Tell me something... do we need to clean the brush while switching between two colours?
Manika Mandel yes unless you want to have the first colour mixed with new one

Nice 👌👌👍💐💐
Am I wrong? It seems the proportions are not accurate.
the good think about ur vidoe that we dont need to think about the colors while we can use Brعnt Sienna
Amazing💯
Can you provide that reference photograph ?

thanks))
how did you get from 5:39 to 5:41 :(
Just by painting🎨
Great work! What medium did you use? Is it ok to use just turpentine?
Thanks, I won't use just turpentine, it thins down the paint, maybe add some dammar varnish or stand linseed oil, up to 30%
Sergey Gusev thank u :)

I would love to see more recent paintings from Yassar Fiad (not sure of how he spells his name).
UA-cam on channel own has Fayad Yasser
What paint
Thanks for your share
What medium should one use?
I like gamsol plus stand linseed oil
Hi Sergey, out of interest how long did this painting take you to create?
Hi Mark, I don't know exactly, I would say about 15 hours)

No
@@SergeyGusevArtist so do you paint it directly on canvas
In my mind the promotion of Arteza was a little bit to aggressiv.
buy gamblin, Winsor Newton or any other reputable brand...impossible to get info on these advertised "paints"

Many many happy cristmas
God bless you
Dog at start. “Human.... human... put down please, heck human! You make me do vertigo!”
5:39 - Looks like a child drawing. 5:40 - All magically blended without showing the process and looks already like a decent mid-way painting. 🙃
You usually start from light colors to dark colors
No, you always start with dark in classic painting, usually burnt Sienna or raw umber is the first color you take
@@Lerotan depends on the medium. In Oils, Acrylics definitly dark to light. With watercolour you'll have to turn it around.

100% true
Beginners clickbait
Why would you as a beginner start with something as difficult as a portrait?
