How To Fit a Thule Bike Rack to a Caravan, Straightforward Right?

- Fitting a Thule bike rack to the back of my caravan, the brackets are already pre-fitted by Swift Caravan, so this should be straightforward, right?
It seems that Thule may have over simplified the instructions and quite a lot of head-scratching was required.
This Thule bike rack is designed to be fitted to a touring caravan or motorhome, if you have a Swift model from 2016 it will have the bars pre fitted, however, the kit also comes with the fitting brackets so you can fit it to other motorhomes or caravan brands
The rack I have fitted is a Thule Elite G2 - Standard version, the difference between a 'standard' and 'short' is the distance between the upper and lower mounts. here is a link to the rack.

All Swift motorhomes and caravans (except Basecamp) from 2016 come with the mounts fitted, however, this kit does come with the mountings if you are looking to fit to a non 2016 onwards Swift you can do that.

If Thule made video instructions... they wouldn't be as good as yours. Invaluable video to supplement the less than adequate instructions that come with the kit. Fitted today on our new Swift Conqueror. The only additional advice that I would add to yours is to wear safety glasses when drilling in the self tapping screws. The very effective screw cutting edge throws off swarf, even though I was using a Makita driver with speed control at slow speed.
Great video, totally agree the instructions are rubbish, just about to fit one to our swift caravan today, not sure if you did off camera but when fitting the lower section there are two black plastic washers that clip into either side before you put the bolt through.
Love the fact you should all the issues you encountered rather than a well edited video making it look easy. Why manufactures don’t write simple instructions is beyond me. Have you noticed any stability issues have extra weight at the back of the caravan? Thanks 👍😃
Thanks for posting this helpful video as I don’t think I would have managed only with their paper instructions. There’s certainly a few sections missing from the instruction booklet . Great quality bike rack though.
Surely the short rack is what you should have ordered? The one you said in the video you shouldn’t order. :-)

Hello ! Great video ! My camper came with the mounting rails at 50 cm distance.. I need to install a 4 bike rack and only Thule has them .The problem is that Thule racks have from 80 to 150 cm height. Do you think that the rack bars could be cut so that it could be fitted in a 50 cm height ? Thank you for the neat video !
I thought plastic/nylon screws were a poor idea. We like to drive to our chosen trails so prefer the bikes on the roof of our tow car.
Very helpful if you have mounting rails already fitted but the latest Thule G2 Motorhome rack comes with a glue mounting clamp rail so no drilling.. can’t find any UA-cam content on these at all..
