Yep, it was great moment. Then I was the only one to bust out laughing when he had to shoot the sumo guy in the head again and he made a loud "dong" when he face planted on steel. Kinda awkward, but I guess you can't judge after cheering for pencil slaughter.
I'm pretty sure John Wick could lift Mjolnir.. . *John puts his hand on Mjolnir's handle* . Mjolnir: What? They killed your beagle puppy? I got you, my dude. This is worthy...let's fuckin' go...
Nu uh. Only #1 and half of #2. The other half of #2 and #3 the kills are about John screwing up on Continental Grounds. I mean, his dog knew better, take that shit outside.
23:15 So interesting detail that some people usually miss but John actually expresses disappointment in the tactics that the mute girl (name revealed in the credits as Ares) decided on. When he searches her body after beating/killing her, he finds ammo on her person. You can see the disappointment in John's expression which basically said, "You had a gun and ammo but decided to fight with a knife?"
It looks neat, but some of this is verging on the silly. Totally silent handgun shots? A punctured aorta that isn't immediately blown-apart by the blood pressure directly outside the heart? These movies are fun, but they do start to threaten the suspension of disbelief in places. That's probably a deliberate choice, though.
Idk if I would say gets better and better. The first movie is still the best imo and the 2nd was just as good. The 3rd was full of action but I dont think it holds up to the first 2. Maybe the 4th movie will be good.
In a knife fight, the groin and the neck are often seen as ideal targets given that they are nerve and blood vessel-rich, and being at poles, it's difficult to defend both at once. That's part of the beauty of JW: there's a respectable amount of actual combat technique inserted into the scenes.
Keanu trained with a renowned competition shooter Taran Butler to get ready for the gun play in this movie I started shooting competition in late 2016 and everybody in the scene were mad hyped for this movie because it put our sport on the big screen in the most badass way possible.
One of the more interesting facts about these movies. He does all of his own stunts in them too and trained with professionals on the gun range to make sure all the gun scenes were realistic. I recommend watching the behind the scenes with our boy learning to use all the various weapons and such. He's such an inspiration.
As a judoka I see that Keanu Reeves and other members of the cast had Judo training to do this movie, because they used A LOT of Judo throws on this one. So well choreographed. Shout out to the production team!
I blew out a knee in judo and switched to kenpo. Once, while waiting for class to start, one of the guys (who was interested in learning some grappling) and I did some ground work. I was in the best overall physical shape in life, but I couldn't believe how much I had to struggle to pull off techniques that used to be effortless. You can see whether or not somebody has trained enough to develop the necessary neuromuscular conditioning for grappling because if they haven't, even a proper technique looks slow and cumbersome. You can tell that Keanu Reeves really trained a lot for his fight scenes.
Great reaction! That fight scene between John and Cassian was one of the most intense and memorable clashes that I've ever seen on film! It was obvious to me that John respected him and truly regretted his role in his Mistress death, because Cassian was one of a very, very few opponents that was allowed to survive his encounter.
5:42 That pinkie ring is a Signet ring. It was suppose to have the family's sigil or shield (commonly known as Coat of Arms, but the coat of arms is more elaborate, it contains the shield, supporters, crest, helmet, and motto among others). The ring may also contain a personal sigil or shield or initials instead of the family's. In the olden days people of business, politics, and nobility use them as seal in documents.
Ask a retired Hitman to pull a job he doesn't want, blow up his house when he refuses, then try to kill him after he agrees, THEN taunt him after he survives... Yeah, Santino had a death wish.
Nikki laughing at violence while saying "Oh Bitch" is my new favorite thing. And Nikki hitting Steven when that guy got a sudden and unscheduled castration at the train station! 🤣 I would also like to take a moment to recognize Steven's amazing ability to call out those moves during the fight choreography. I have no idea that they had names until today. Thank you, Steven!
They need to watch Collateral. Only movie where Tom Cruise played the role of Antagonist. It has strong John Wick vibes as well and excellent realistic gun choreography and technique.
Yeah Collateral was awesome. Prior to the John Wick franchise Michael Mann's film and TV work had the best gun play ever filmed HEAT still has one of the best gunfights ever made, the alley scene from Collateral is a classic, the shootout in the Miami Vice film was fantastic. Back when he was a producer on the Miami Vice TV series Michael Mann had the cast train at Gunsight with Jeff Cooper (at the time was one of the best places in the world to receive defensive firearms training)
Common said he was shocked by how little the stunt crew was used. He was limping for days after the fight down the stairs while Keanu was fine. Keanu's recovery time is insane.
I remember after seeing the john wick movies, when me and my friends would roll in jiujitsu class, whenever we hit like armbar to triangle transitions and get stuck, for a laugh we would mimick john wick armbar to triangle to 9mm transitions 22:45 lol Also, thank god for the John wick movies bringing back wide shots of fight sequences so we see the entire thing and seeing Keanu putting on some moves on people!
When Gianna commits suicide it's a reference to a story about how Romans would cut their wrists and then step in a hot bath to hasten their death. Gianna was holding her coronation in Roman ruins, so she decided to go out in a classical fashion.
I'm having a hard time to choose which movie is my favourite action movie between Mad Max: Fury Road and the John Wick series. I wouldn't be fair to choose one as they're their own different action styles.
For me it's Mad Max, the machines in that movie are so captivating and each of them is almost their own character. On top of its the color in that movie is WOW! John Wick is still amazing though, I just jave a strong attachment to Fury Road.
I wanted to see at least two or three of the professional killers getting the phone notification, seeing that the name at the top is John Wick, considering for a moment, and then simply putting the phone away and going back to what they were doing. Because dude, that's obviously a HARD 'nope' from anyone with a lick of sense.
A note on Nikki's question at 5:45. A ring on a man's pinky is likely a signet ring, which is a familial symbol for gentleman hailing from high-class families. It's been traditionally worn on the left throughout the 15th to 19th centuries, but modern gentleman's fashion typically call for them to be worn on a man's dominant hand. It's not so much a symbol of badassery (although it can be, if you have the blood to back it up), but more a symbol of power. Especially if the said gentleman hails from a seat at the High Table, such as the d' Antonios who occupy the Gamora seat. (EDIT: Also, a note on the usage of the shotgun. There isn't really a weapon that's a true "do it all" tool. But there are tools which fare better than others, in a certain situation. In this case, where you're in a narrow, confined space, and you're having to deal with being overrun by multiple assailants from various directions, a shotgun would be your best bet. That's why John left it as his last weapon to pick up on the way out, where he's most likely to be overwhelmed by numbers. Sure it's slower to reload than a mag-fed carbine, but shot-per-shot you'd be putting down more bodies with fewer trigger pulls. Plus, reloading would be less of an issue for John, as he uses competition-style quad loading and a match-saver to reload on the fly.)
My two favorite moments from the entire movie: 1. "How about the lining? ...... Tactical" 2. The end when John and Doggy Wick are running as everyone's phones are ringing
I agree too. The power in close range has no equal although yeah, I get Nikki's point too when it comes to reloading. That's where a secondary hand gun would come in
I can't help but love the dedication he put into this role to learn the stuff he did (fighting and gun play) and yet I just finished re-watching all three Bill & Ted movies. I love him. 😎🐾👍
It’s so sad. The guy behind the desk at the hotel died recently. THE ACTOR I mean. His character is in the 4th film and I don’t know the outcome of his character. YET! RIP MAN! 😔
", Don't you think John wick's gonna come after them now " I mean if you blew up a house with the man standing inside wouldn't you think the guy was dead too

They refer to this particular style of action, a mix of mma and guns, as Gun-Fu. The training footage of Keanu Reeves going through this stuff is pretty freakin awesome as well.
Such a great film series! As good and as surprising as it is, when you get to rewatch it you will also notice some little things. For example when he walks away leaving Cassius on the subway the voice on the loud speaker announces "End of the Line". There are also "shout outs" to other popular movies throughout this series. Nikki talking about ammo capacity versus stopping power...keeper times 3.
Can't forget watching this in the cinema and everyone cheered when he killed the guys with the pencils.✏

I didn't find it "vague" at all... seemed rather clear to me.

Lmao I swear Steven's eyes were literally sparkling with wonder during the pencil kill. Too funny!
That "Are You Here For The Pope?!" part gets me every time.......LMAO: cool!

Just think about this for a second... they filmed a fight scene in a mirror house and never once do you see a camera
From an artists perspective... honestly, THAT is the best part of it all.
