BlephEx is a novel treatment for blepharitis and dry eye. Our eyelids get coated with a buildup of rancid oils, old makeup, bacterial biofilm, dead cells, and even mites. This plugs up the oils gland openings that are essential to delivering oils to our tear film to avoid evaporative tear loss and severe red/dry eyes. These buildup issues also can contribute to oil cysts in the eyelid that need surgical drainage, infections, red/swollen eyes and eyelids, crusting, mattering, and eye discomfort and blurriness. The mechanical action of the BlephEx is safe, but very effective to clean away the harmful buildup of unwanted material and infection-causing issues along the eyelid margin. It only takes about 10 minutes, and is very well tolerated with no downtime. Repeated treatments are typically needed at 4-6 month intervals, but savings can be obtained over other expensive lid scrubs and artificial tear regimens.

Would this be quivalent or better to a debridement of the line of marx and kid margin of any keratanizarion over the MGO's ? My oils are clear and relatively fluid... olive oil type but they have trouble coming out with blinks. My opto doesnt want to hear it when I say a debridement could be beneficial. He claims that is only for biofilm but i think hes missing the keratin/dead cell accumulation around the MGO's part.
I know her eyes are numbed but still makes me cringe when the white foam stuff actually touches the eyeballs argh lol
How long would it takes for me to lose the red aspect of my eyelids ?
Quentin too many variables to answer intelligently or specifically on your eyelid redness improvement timing.
Dr. John Burroughs Ok thanks ☺
Can Blephex get rid of an existing chalzion? I've tried all the suggestions from my dr. I'm trying to avoid surgery.
It won’t remove it, but can help new ones not form.
Thank you. This has been the most aggravating thing I have ever had.
cecilia954 keep trying warm compresses, but The drainage is usually quite safe and not too painful when done by a skilled eyelid surgeon
One more question. I've had it for two years. At first I had 2 rounds of antibiotics, ointments, drops and the hot compresses. I still do the compresses every day. It is not red anymore and doesn't interfere with my vision. It is hard, like a small rock. Should I just leave it alone. Don't know if I've waited too long to have it removed. Thank you
@@cecilia954 I went to an eye doctor/surgeon and they did an injection in my eyelid. It reduced the bump by half in about a month and then it went away totally in about 3 months. He told me I could go back and have it done again if it wasn't successful. Although it was extremely quick, it was quite an unpleasant experience and better not to know what to expect.
Is there a tool like that I could buy to use at home
This is not something you want to do on yourself. Too much risk for injuring your eye, and you can't have access to the numbing drops because of the risk of abuse regarding their use.
No need. Take a shower, wash your face :-)
Docs near me dont want to do this. They think its only for blepharitis and doesnt benefit the MGO's.
All that upper eyelid stretching could cause ptosis.
I've been an eyelid surgeon for over 20 years. Ptosis can occur from excessive rubbing to the eyelids. Rarely from an eyelid speculum during cataract surgery as well. I have not encountered ptosis, however, from any BlephEX treatments. This patients is doing very well since her treatment with better feeling eyes and not ptosis of the lids. Thanks for your interest.
Dr. John Burroughs I know that cataract surgery can cause ptosis as it occurred to me, required Muller's muscle resection on one eye and a functional blepharoplasty on the other. They call the speculum "the ptosis maker". What a miserable experience cataract surgery can be, especially in a younger person! I'd still be very wary of your "BlephEX" device despite also suffering from blepharitis. I'm sticking with Ocusoft lid cleanser which is giving me better results than anything else.
I'm glad your getting help with the ocusoft. I'm a big proponent of hypochlor lid scrub by Ocusoft. All the best.
@@annimack1591how are you doing now with blepharitis? Still using the Ocusoft?
Frustratingly, I had this done and it was not done correctly. 😡
Sorry to hear that. It has been helpful for most of our patients, but not all. There are factors that can affect its efficacy. It does need repeating now and then.
John Burroughs definitely frustrating. I had been referred there by my ophthalmologist, but I will let him know that it wasn’t done correctly. I will also look for someone else that can do this procedure well.
@@river8760 I wasn't at the procedure, so I don't know if it was done correctly or not in your case. I had a patient yesterday that I wouldn't do it for as she did not have any indication for the BlephEx and had lid swelling that may have worsened it. The BlephEx is amazing for the right patients, but won't help everyone.
John Burroughs I didn’t expect you to know whether or not he did the procedure correctly, sorry that wasn’t my point here. I fully understand that you’re not familiar with my situation medically. My specialist recommended I have this done, which I agreed with, but having watched the procedure performed many times in lots of videos, I could tell it wasn’t accurately performed. C’est la vie.
Special soap🤣🤣🤣. He use Johnson baby shampoo.
No , it's an eyelid cleaning foam.
