I find that Paraffin is quite a good cutting fluid for many Aluminium grades. It reduces the swarf sticking to drill bits and taps. That plug you show early on is a Mini-USB.
Great job. I wish I had the tools and the skills 😅 to make such things myself. I found a mounting plate for my Garmin on Amazon with mounting screws instead of a suction cup. A lot easier that way... But the thing is, I haven't used my sat nav in years. My waterproof phone does the job. You don't need phone service if you save the maps first.
Yes, buying stuff is always easier but isn’t any fun. Phone ? Way too many people have ruined their phone due to vibration. Yes there is now a quad lock specifically to address this but I don’t trust it. But each to their own.

Watching fabrication videos like yous are sooooo entertaining and insperational, great job!!!! I made a carrier for my garmin sat nav on my 2007 BMW R1200R I had to bend some mild steel into shape to fit at the back of the speedometer, I am so envious of your work shop.Many thanks for sharing.
I use a beeline navigation device. Small and simple and the holder fit's perfect on the top of the cockpit so no need to look down what I find very dangerous

Highway riding at 100km/hr I use around 3.3 ltrs / 100km. We tend to look for fuel at around 300km travelled but at that fuel economy I could get 400km from the tank. Reserve is 3ltrs so can go a fair distance after the reserve light comes on.
Been trying to find a better mount for a satnav on mine. The over-the-instrument cluster accessory bars are cheap, but the one I ordered doesn't seem to fit well and seems like it will be flexy and bounce quite a bit. The top cowl over the instrument panel is really flimsy plastic. I've been considering pulling it off, covering it in cling-wrap (which doesn't stick to epoxy composit, and so makes a perfect and very cheap separator, and molding a custom carbon-fiber shell right over it, and either replacing the factory one or bonding this one to it, and installing hardware into that for a mount. No proper machining tools (or knowledge) in my garage, but I can do a few things with carbon-fiber and epoxy wet layups, plus a 3-d printer to make molds and tooling.
@@AfricaTwin-Stuff I have a handlebar mount showing my phone/gps right about where you mounted this, but that's too close to my geezer eyes, so I need to get mine out above the instrument panel if I can. I may retry the cheap one I ordered, and it that's too flimsy, I could reinforce that aluminum with fiberglass/ CF composite. That might be simplest.

Hi Graham. Cutting fluid? People seem to use WD40 or kero on Ali but I find it better just using normal cutting oil. Maybe because I’m not using proper “turning” Ali.
Nice job. Achiles heel is the adhesive, and probably the plastic mount claws, which were designed to hold the receiver inside a car. On the motorcycle, it is questionable if that plastic would withstand vibrations and air turbulence. Perhaps you would make some aditional aluminium clamps, to strongly secure the receiver into that holder.
I gather you have never used Sikaflex. This will never fail. Air turbulence ? Behind the fairing ? Are you serious? Anyway, I don’t think I advised anyone to do what I do. After all, I realise I’m an idiot. Unlike some people 🤣

Sooner or later, that plastic claws of the Garmin holder, you glued to the aluminum piece you fabricated, would crack. And yes, there is space in between the forks and the fairings, which opens above the front wheel. As I said, you did a nice job fabricating that holder, but you should consider making some aluminum clamps to reinforce that plastic holder. I tried to give an constructive opinion, not to criticize you. If you choose to be crusty, so be it.
Totally off topic. But I saw in my manual for my 2022 NC750X DCT that I need to check my crankcase breather. Have you done a video for this? I don't even know where it is! Thanks.
No video. Way too trivial. You will see a clear plastic tube with a bung in it on the left of the bike above the engine and coming down from the air box. Just visually check it. If it has oil in it, remove the bung and drain it.
