Still play it honestly. It hasn't"t got the depth of subsequent iterations but the re-playability of the game keeps making me come back. The way the players move is even smoother than recent AFL games including AFL23 and it is so satisfying moving the ball end-to-end. Marking contests look pretty natural and fluid while a player kicking around their body or handballing over their own head also looks realistic. Unrealistic things would be that tackling was insane and I end 40 minute games (10min quarters) with over 200 tackles (but a very realistic score line). There's no such thing as pressing in this game as Fullbacks and Back Pockets don't really press up any further than their defensive 50m arc. There are some little glitches with how the AI behaves and teammates don't always work hard to create options even if you're running right at their opponent to create overlap. The fact that 12 years later this is still the only AFL game I come back to play, despite its lack of features, says a lot about the recent console games. (This was also my first AFL console game)
Should maybe try playing every VFL/AFL game. The first licensed game I believe is Australian Rules Football from 1989, there maybe some roms of it around. I've never really seen much Finals Fever or Kevin Sheedy AFL Coach 2002 gameplay footage, either, but they're around online as roms, but you'd probably need an virtual machine to play them.
I 100% agree with what you’ve said here matt, for your next video like this I’d really like to see a video on why afl live 2 was a complete disaster. Anyway great video matt keep it up!
Read Ross Symons interviews and comments on the matter. He says Wicked Witch were the "budget sheet" alternative. He also said on Bigfooty, if you get him drunk enough he'll give you the full story on why Big Ant lost the rights, lol.
@@mattn1 my ideal afl 23 is the player career of NBA 2K, the realism and physics of FIFA, and the stadium creating, players and teams/leagues of AFL. Bit of a stretch tho
You might be pretty close to what AFL 23 will be, I don’t know if we’ll have a story like NBA 2K has but if you’ve played big ants tennis and cricket games, they’ve got a pretty cool player career with press conferences, cutscenes and even starting your career at a local team
I was very disappointed with AFL live 1 because their was no career mode. The PS2 games had an unlimited career mode. AFL live 1 clearly missed the mark. The most overrated AFL game by far. I personally preferred AFL live 2 over this game because it had a career mode.
@@iknoweverything4959 I prefer a game dept or things to do. I felt AFL Live 1 was a complete downgrade. AFL 2007 you had an unlimited career but AFL Live didn't even had a career mode ,I felt very disappointed. At least Big ant recent games and a lot better and have a proper career mode.
Really enjoyed this - not long now for the sequel :)
Yep, I can’t wait 👍🏻

I still play AFL live 1 on my Xbox 360
Yeah it holds up really well

Yeah most of the older ones are bit of a hassle to get working, I’ve got finals fever and that one was pretty interesting
i still play AFL Live 1 on my ps3 sometimes, its held up well, its just as good as Evo 2
Yeah Live 1 is still pretty fun even if it’s a bit easy at times, I feel like AFL 23 is gonna be so far ahead of anything we’ve had before though
@@mattn1 Yeah, with Big Ant back as a developer I'm hoping for a career mode and coaching mode like Cricket 22. Great vid aswell mate, keep it up.
Thanks mate, I think big ant have already confirmed all their game modes from cricket/tennis will carry over to AFL 23
@@saintsam1408 It's far better than Evo 2. Evo 2 is garbage.

That would be fun, AFL Live 2 was so ridiculous 😂

will you be doing any AFL 23 Discussion video? like plans, news and stuff like that?
I’d like to, just waiting on big ant to give us a proper unveiling of the game
@@mattn1 fair enough. looking forward to seeing the content. :)
Thanks mate, it helps knowing what you guys want to see
I absolutely agree with the title, half of the standards that people have for afl 23 stem from afl live 1
Btw love the vids, first
Thanks mate
Yep, AFL 23 will at least be Live 1 with all those game modes from big ants cricket and tennis games, that’s already pretty exciting

I can see why that could be annoying, I couldn’t imagine going back to a game without a career mode nowadays
You prefer garbage gameplay because it has a career mode? Truly bizarre. It's like you're saying quantity over quality.

@@SportsReplays If the gameplay is poor, the game modes don't magically make it better.
@@SportsReplays would rather a game that plays like actual footy, Afl live 1 is the only game so far to do it.
