You may be joking but how people act on the bench is a massive tell whether they're in it for the team or in it for themselves! Head up 🥰🙏

My specialty - first of all being a lefty (it brought me many benefits so far, especially since every blocker has to adapt and block differently against me), also my agility and the way I play defense. But I would really love to play more outside or being able to hit the ball harder and accurate more consistently in games. Somehow in practice I keep on hitting those good shots, but my biggest weakness is that ingames I'm just way to nervous and worry about not playing well too much. Other than that I'm a good oppo :)

I'm in junior and I can do jump serves so I guess I will impress the coach either way 😂
And I'm playing in higher levels because no one in my age group would want to play volleyball so i play volleyball so with higher levels and now I got the level of a higher player and my specialty is setting consistently and serving

Hi, I am an upcoming freshman in highschool. Boys volleyball is an official sport that only started at the highschool last year, and lucky for me i made it in time. It is summer right now, so I have been practicing serves, receives, and passes every day this summer. My serve is getting better, but there’s only so much one man can do. The only met around here is at my local park, and it has sand. I really don’t like practicing on the sand, but if it helps me get better I would ride my bike down there everyday. But the bet is like, super low, so I think It wouldn’t help and all it would do is develop a bad habit. So I’ve basically just been in my backyard slapping the ball around alone. There’s two 5 foot poles back there that stick out of the ground (obviously withojt a net.) so I use them as markers. I enjoy practice, but I can only do so much with no teammates, no net, no court, and no coaches. There IS a clinic coming up next month, so I’ll be there. The coach is my old science teacher. Anyways, any tips on how to practice without those things?

I am rather short, abt 170cm, and only got 1 year of formal training cut short due to covid. I believe I am barely a volleyballer as I can set (not that well), Serve (jump float only sadly), pass quite decently, and attack (not powerful but sharp cuz I played middle quick when my height was considered on the taller side). I have no Idea what to specialize since I've always been taught to be an all rounder any recommendations since i wanna continue playing in a college level (i'd rather not be a libero tho)? One thing I'm good at would be positioning and court awareness (like finding gaps in our defence to cover or gaps in the opponents to target) but i think that's a skill all higher level players have.

My main specialty is blocking mainly because of my height, but I’m wanting to mainly start playing RS/Oppo. Any tips on how to get better at hitting from the right side?

    • @coachartie
      @coachartie  Рік тому +2

Oppos are attack specialist and in my head the best oppos in the world are players that can hit any type of set.
So practice with realistic sets as much as possible. It's easy to get sucked into practicing your hit with a perfect set but in reality we probably will only get max 2 perfect sets in a game.
Do your best to stay resilient when learning how to hit all sorts of sets!
      Good luck!

im a setter,i've trained as libero for a while i can get the ball to the setter if im not playing as such or if we are doing a 4-2 comp, i dont have problems with jump serve's and stuff the problem is my teammates don play high balls they give me mid to low balls to set for them and makes harder to practice setting plus they want me to set them perfectly almost because if not they cannot hit properly and is frustating because i want to play in the main league but they keep me in the sub 18 league and its even harder because most of my teammates there are new to the sport and dont even know how to pass a ball properly :/ but idk its a bit frustrating but i hope next year i can play in the main league (its a regional league)

Sounds like they need more leg action in their passes.
Maybe start doing flashy knee sliding back sets to make up for it. Otherwise, bump sets can get the job done too 👍

Hi coach Artie, I am quite versatile in my skill set having played every role expect middle blocker. Currently I am playing outside hitter and while I have a good verical jump and decent tool set (Straight, cross, tip), I stand at only 170cm. While my coach knows my ability as an outside hitter, I am worried that when I go to college, other coaches won't give me a chance as an outside hitter anymore due to my lackluster height. Do you think I should realistically focus on improving my skills as an outside hitter or do you think it would be more beneficial for me to pivot into a setter/libero?

    • @coachartie

Great question! It all depends on whats fun for you and why you play?
I can definitely relates with the idea of being looked past by coaches because of height.
If you love p/h with all your heart! I'm a sucker for passion! I'd say go for it! Work as hard as you can to be better than other taller players! Expect nothing and hope for greatness!
But if it's not a passion, do consider changing roles. I think a valuable skill to have is being flexible in position and mentally.
All I can say is a lot of coaches see height as an advantage in every role. So it's a problem you will encounter any position you play.
Good luck on your journey! All I can hope for is you continue to play! 🥰

I've been wanting to play volleyball since I was like 5 now I'm 12. there isn't any volleyball class, coaching, court or club in the area i live so I'm the only place i can play volleyball is in the building i live. I've also been requesting volleyball to be added in my school since the last year and now I have two years left. my brother tells me I like volleyball because of anime but I truly feel like like playing it with my heart but I can't. Even my parents are unenthusiastic about my playing volleyball as they keep on pressuring me with my studies.

I had a similar back story. I was always so excited but my school didn't play it. When I got to high school thats when I finally started playing and I never really stopped.
Even if it is just a phase I think it's still so worth it to try and play as much as you can.
Hope to hear you playing somewhat soon. If not that's still ok. 😊
