Once you complete a goal, make it more challenging. We all develop at different ages in life so just do what you are able to do and push your own limits, don't compare yourself to those around you! I’m in 9th grade and I’m trying out for my highschool team tomorrow and I have no experience but I’ve been practicing and watching these videos I’ll update how I did!!!! I’m so nervous 😭 UPDATE: Day 1/5 done it went really well today! I’m so proud of myself the coach told me that I really seemed to enjoy playing and put in a lot of effort I think half of the freshman were cut and a few upperclassmen. I know I wasn’t perfect at everything for example hitting and serving was pretty rough receives were good so as long as you put in the effort, go for the ball, communicate, you’ll have a good shot! INCOMING ESSAY: First I arrived and tryouts were for jv and varsity so people up to senior year were there and at the beginning I thought that was so scary (but not at all you’ll see!) I already knew a girl (she’s new too) there so we walked to the gym together and all the girls were on the benches with their bags and getting settled so we both sit down and then I think it was the older girls but they started setting up the nets and then later on everyone was standing up and grouped together and in my case all the freshman were talking together and then the coach yelled for us to do 3 laps around the gym and so we did (leader started cutting corners lolll) it wasn’t excruciatingly tiring I wouldn’t say I’m extremely out of shape and after that I think we got water and then we had to spread out and do stretches (water break again) and we huddled in a group and the coach explained the teams and how they’re trying to get 14 max on each (jv and varsity) and then she said to partner up with someone you didn’t know and for the experienced players to partner up with the new players (very scary at first) and a really really really really nice girl came up to me and said “do you need a partner?” I swear she was the nicest girl I’ve ever met and first (sorry I have to go to sleep it’s 12:35 am and I have to get up early 😭 I’ll continue later I could honestly make my own video about this I’m thinking about it) FINAL UPDATE 3/28: I’ve been playing on the team for a few weeks now (it’s been going well :)) but I wanted to come back and add a few things ADVICE: -I think going for the ball was a REALLY important thing because looking back now I think a lot of the girls who were cut were the ones who usually just stood there -don’t worry about serving, my team still has a few girls who can’t serve over the net (I couldn’t either but I learned a technique: hit the ball towards the bottom of your hand I know the coaches will tell you to hit with your whole palm and when I tried that I kept slapping the ball and after I started hitting towards the bottom I started getting it over the net! But I don’t want to mess anyone up so do whatever’s best for you 😅 -get the ball pretty high up (tbh I didn’t learn this until after tryouts) but when you receive and set make sure it’s a little high so others can get it -have fun! Don’t be that one person that doesn’t look like they want to be there because 1) you wanna have fun in the first place 2) it come off as good and a team player -also if this makes anyone less nervous I had tryouts for a week and I ended up getting excited to go everyday after the beginning! It was nice to play with new people but I also don’t know what other people’s situations are like so this was my personal experience -JUST TO CLARIFY: my state isn’t big on volleyball so I was very lucky since most public middle schools didn’t offer it but my high school is also very competitive when it comes to sports -Also the advice I’m writing now is after tryouts and Ive been on the team so it might come off as really intimidating like “uh oh I have to be super good” but no, literally none of us were perfect!! and I want to make that really clear! But those were areas that I think were really important now that I look back so I hope this helps!!
I have tryouts for 3 days so I don’t know if I’m on the team yet 😅 but it really wasn’t as scary as I thought since a lot of new people joined too (we got to split into a group for new people) and it turned out to be really fun, the older girls were so supportive but for expectations I recommend to practice the basics for receiving (that was a big thing today) and I know tomorrow is on hitting, the coaches look for teamwork (like calling for the ball) and adaptability if they tell you to fix something
Ayyyy congrats, I'm in 7th and tried out for school, no one was cut because the perfect number tried out and we added someone later, but I also tried for club, there were not many cuts I don't think, just alot of sorting

3:19 this is the most important thing at my school gym. The gym isn’t air conditioned and people who are practicing don’t realize that they need water, we had a new girl come into practice with us for 3-4 hours (I forget how long) and she ended up passing out because she thought she was fine. She ok now and she’s coming back tmr!
aww it's ok dw you can try harder practice a little more and next time they hold tryouts you can try again, also i'm pretty sure that gives you like a whole year to practice and train
Guys, I know this is 3 years ago and no one’s gonna see this but… PRAY FOR ME!! ❤️❤️ I really want to make the team again this year! I’d love to move up but if I don’t that’s fine too. Working hard rn ❤️
I'm trying volleyball for the first time as a sophomore, because I've always kind of wanted to and never did years prior. I had my first day of tryouts today, and I go to a competitive private school so I was surrounded by girls who have been playing for years - it was really tough to be honest, but everybody was so supportive and I'm so excited to do my best on it :) Volleyball is really such a mental sport, so thank you for giving advice pertaining to taking care of your health !!
I’m so glad you mentioned hustling after water breaks! Although I haven’t actually been involved in volleyball, I can definitely say that’s important. I did cheerleading for about 3 years and when it was water break, my teammates would go on their phones, socialize, walk away from the team and all that. Then when it came time to practice more, the others would walk back to the team without even getting water (because they were too busy on their phones and whatnot) that made our team fall behind and affected our competition score dramatically. This is also why I’m gonna do volleyball instead of cheerleading this year.

Hi! Long time club player. I would say a HUGE thing is to be loud and communicative! I wouldn’t necessarily worry about it if you are a beginner since there’s a lot to say and it can take focus away from skill. Practice what you need to say and be LOUD. Ex. On, out, back, mine

Hey Koko! I am trying really hard to be a setter, i am 12 and 5'6, so I know my coaches will want to put me as a middle blocker, and i kind of want to do both. What should I do? ( also anybody can give me sugesstions i am already setting 400 times a day. )
wait that sounds exactly like me rn. 170cm 12 yr old who wants to play setter but can jump really high. I hope u made setter. Any pointers btw? I want help
Hi! I am a college setter, and 18u club coach. I played middle my freshman year of high school, then switched to setter so kind of relate! Talk to your coach. It is very rare to find players who can go from middle to setting. Make yourself well rounded, it will make it easier to get bids for teams ect. At the end of the day, being open and honest with your coach about where you want to play will get you far. Setters need to be the most positive on the court and the leader, they make all the calls. If you are a good leader, your coach will be much more likely to play you in that position.
I might suggest being a hitter! I know it isn’t one of the positions you mentioned, but your height will help you a lot in the position. When I was 12, I was 5’9”, and being a hitter really helped with the fundamentals of volleyball for me. If you don’t want to be a hitter, that’s totally fine!! :) have fun 💕
i know i’m a bit late but i would suggest either seeing how many setters there already are on your team or practicing both and seeing what your coach wants you to play
When i was playing volley ball with my class. 1 person in my team was'nt able to do the serve and everyone was laughing a them. That person was really sad beacause all the class was laughing, i was the only one that was saying to everyone " its okay!! We can catch up, everyone makes mistakes" with a bright smile. Now this person is amazing at volley ball!

These tips are so helpful to everyone that wants to play or is playing volleyball especially if you guys are having tryouts like me for the JV team or any team at all!
I one hundred agree with everything you said, I’ve been playing for 3 years and I’m pretty young, but my mom is a coach and tells me a lot of things about the kids that tryout and things like that. Anyways again the most important thing to do is make sure you look and are coachable, for example you say thank you to the feedback the coaches give you and make sure to shag especially if people are jumping (either jump serving or hitting etc.), mostly for safety. These are the two most important things I think

I know I wasn’t perfect at everything for example hitting and serving was pretty rough receives were good so as long as you put in the effort, go for the ball, communicate, you’ll have a good shot!
INCOMING ESSAY:
First I arrived and tryouts were for jv and varsity so people up to senior year were there and at the beginning I thought that was so scary (but not at all you’ll see!) I already knew a girl (she’s new too) there so we walked to the gym together and all the girls were on the benches with their bags and getting settled so we both sit down and then I think it was the older girls but they started setting up the nets and then later on everyone was standing up and grouped together and in my case all the freshman were talking together and then the coach yelled for us to do 3 laps around the gym and so we did (leader started cutting corners lolll) it wasn’t excruciatingly tiring I wouldn’t say I’m extremely out of shape and after that I think we got water and then we had to spread out and do stretches (water break again) and we huddled in a group and the coach explained the teams and how they’re trying to get 14 max on each (jv and varsity) and then she said to partner up with someone you didn’t know and for the experienced players to partner up with the new players (very scary at first) and a really really really really nice girl came up to me and said “do you need a partner?” I swear she was the nicest girl I’ve ever met and first (sorry I have to go to sleep it’s 12:35 am and I have to get up early 😭 I’ll continue later I could honestly make my own video about this I’m thinking about it)
FINAL UPDATE 3/28: I’ve been playing on the team for a few weeks now (it’s been going well :)) but I wanted to come back and add a few things
ADVICE:
-I think going for the ball was a REALLY important thing because looking back now I think a lot of the girls who were cut were the ones who usually just stood there
-don’t worry about serving, my team still has a few girls who can’t serve over the net (I couldn’t either but I learned a technique: hit the ball towards the bottom of your hand I know the coaches will tell you to hit with your whole palm and when I tried that I kept slapping the ball and after I started hitting towards the bottom I started getting it over the net! But I don’t want to mess anyone up so do whatever’s best for you 😅
-get the ball pretty high up (tbh I didn’t learn this until after tryouts) but when you receive and set make sure it’s a little high so others can get it
-have fun! Don’t be that one person that doesn’t look like they want to be there because 1) you wanna have fun in the first place 2) it come off as good and a team player
-also if this makes anyone less nervous I had tryouts for a week and I ended up getting excited to go everyday after the beginning! It was nice to play with new people but I also don’t know what other people’s situations are like so this was my personal experience
-JUST TO CLARIFY: my state isn’t big on volleyball so I was very lucky since most public middle schools didn’t offer it but my high school is also very competitive when it comes to sports
-Also the advice I’m writing now is after tryouts and Ive been on the team so it might come off as really intimidating like “uh oh I have to be super good” but no, literally none of us were perfect!! and I want to make that really clear! But those were areas that I think were really important now that I look back so I hope this helps!!
I'm in 10th grade and trying out in a few weeks with no experience. Good luck!! Hope you make it!
@@gamersilence3468 thanks and good luck to you too!!
@@lilywang2245 Thank you! That helps a lot!!

Trying out once fall comes, gonna train and prepare
I absolutely LOVE your account, it helps me so so much! I am so interested in volleyball. I am currently learning on how to play so I can try out next year in high school, and your videos help me out so much. I've already learned the positions, overhand serve, how to score points, and how to pass all because of you! Thank you so much! I will definitely be watching more of your videos until I make the team!
KOKO! This is perfect! My tryouts start tommrow i love youuuu

Hi! Long time club player. I would say a HUGE thing is to be loud and communicative! I wouldn’t necessarily worry about it if you are a beginner since there’s a lot to say and it can take focus away from skill. Practice what you need to say and be LOUD.
Ex. On, out, back, mine

Lmao I didn't make it, but got jv on the soft ball team🤌🏻🤌🏻
I was late to tryouts (fell down the stairs), I forgot to stretch (coach didn't let me) , didn't drink a lot (felt light headed from all the conditioning) Hustle/Light jog (If you didn't hustle, everyone is on the line and you have to watch them run, or do their punishment) Talk to coach (to get more clarity on your specific position)
I'm trying out for volleyball and this really helps
I really hate it when my ball roll away and when it got to my friends, they will kick it away like CAN'T YOU PICK IT UP FOR ME INSTEAD OF KICKING IT AWAY?!😡

Hey Koko! I am trying really hard to be a setter, i am 12 and 5'6, so I know my coaches will want to put me as a middle blocker, and i kind of want to do both. What should I do? ( also anybody can give me sugesstions i am already setting 400 times a day. )
Ask coach what you could do to earn yourself the position you wany
wait that sounds exactly like me rn.
