Great job! I use the mind set to never, ever give up! Every shot is a new challenge I can overcome. You got this because you're an overcomer! Keep it up!
A weird trick I have always used is to complement the shooter when they score. Just a simple “good shot” or “nice dangle”. First, it helps to mentally reset. Second, it prevents the other team from getting in your head. Last, maybe it gets in the other team’s head? Kinda like, “you deserve to celebrate after scoring a goal, because you won’t do it again”. I’ve never asked if it has any effect on the other team, but I do get some crazy looks from my team. I think they just brush it off because goalies are weird.
Great video! As for myself, I don't really make any pre-game visualization but thinking about it, during the game, I'm trying to think what can happen on the sequence and think about what I will do for each alternative play. What has been resonating the most was the "embrace the challenge". It's so true! Don't think about letting the goal on pk but work your a.. off to prevent them from scoring. I particularly love those 3-5 pk. As for letting a goal, unless it's a clear weak goal or a goal that I couldn't stop, I'm trying to analyze what I could have done differently. I'm not smiling at all but I'm not worried about it. When I was younger, I used to smash my stick on the board but it doesn't change anything and it gives confidence to the other team. On the breakaway, I'm 100% sure that you had time to go out and play the puck. My job as a goalie is to stop shots but if I can prevent a shot, I'll do it every time.
Nice win Victor, I really try to completely relax when the play is in the other end. Confidence in your stance is hugely important for me, I don’t know how many goalies who get scored on and slumps or looks to the heavens I got a sense he’s losing it. I try to never show my emotion. I will put some of Pete’s suggestions into practice thank you
Yeah gotta show that poker face! I remember an old goalie book I read if you show your frustrated the other team will know they got to your head - so keeping that poker face is key
Good video. I would suggest you keep your glove more out in front of you and out to the left a little bit. It looks REALLY too close to your body and turned more in than out.. You can look much bigger with your glove and blocker out a bit more. One thing I recently started doing that's GREATLY improved my play was opening my eyes SUPER wide - Like Vasilevskiy (not spelled right). What that does is takes in much more light off the ice and over stimulates your brain and improves reaction time. Give it a try next time you clearly see someone about to rip a slapshot - it helps.
I’ve gotten lots of comments on my glove position and I’ve been trying to exaggerate it forward , looks like I’ll have to really get the glove out there (been noticing I’ve been getting beat lots glove side too) For sure I’ve been blinking more than keeping my eyes wide open, these late ice times don’t help lately
Good advice. The most unexpected thing I realized when I started playing goal was the mental aspect of the position. How are you liking your custom HyperLite?
I love my gloves but the pads I feel like I wish I maybe tried some other brands on instead. Mainly for more five hole closure on my narrow butterfly . I actually kind of miss my m5 pros they were really comfortable , slid well and I could close the five hole a bit better Other than that I wish I had picked the right gold color haha
He has a free goalie guided meditation on UA-cam and I listen to it sometimes before games and it was pretty cool. Still lost. But went into it believing in myself haha
Mental is really important. Sometimes, I came to the arena or on the ice and i'm not feeling confident. No idea why, but it happens...I'M feeling small and "rigid". Those game are hard!!! I'm still trying to find why i'm have those mindset from time to time.
I think if you’re feeling that way it’s good to prepare in advance for your game. Like studying for a test , your gonna be anxious if you didn’t study at all Vs taking the time to doing some prep work. I felt that doing the visualization stuff thought not physical prep, actually made me feel more confident before I hit the ice. Like I had already done so much prep in my head it relieved any anxieties I usually have.

I totally could have played the pick but I needed to end the game in dramatic fashion .. ya know for UA-cam lol
