This lady needs her own TV show. Great instructions; great explanation; great camera work. Thanks for teaching me something.
Raeed Tayeh Thank you very much for saying so! :)
Totally agree with you! :)
Raeed Tayeh i must agree
+Raeed Tayeh UA-cam is better than a TV show. You can search on topics and UA-cam automatically suggests related content. Unlike a TV show, you can watch the videos as often as you want, any time. Also, unlike a TV show that is constrained by advertising breaks, a UA-cam video can be 100% information, no fat and no time wasted by rehashing previously covered information following a commercial break! (If you've ever watched a Home & Garden TV show, you know what I mean: Seven minutes of information, following by 3 minutes of commercials, followed by two minutes of recap after the commercials. In the end, a half-hour show has just 10 minutes of useful information, if you're lucky. It's mostly a waste of time and an exercise in frustration.)
Leah, I am so thankful for you. I’m a single homeowner with no “handy person” to help me with house projects. You have helped me so much. The people around me are so impressed with what I have done/am doing all on my own! It has saved me so much money, it has assured me a job well done, it has alleviated the anxiety of paying a stranger to come into my house to do it, it has increased the value of my home, and perhaps most importantly, it has made me feel empowered and confident that I don’t need a man to get things done. I thank you so much, and I really appreciate the way you break things down for beginners. You’ve made real difference in my life. Thank you, and keep it up! 💖💪🏽
Leah, you have an excellent teaching style. I am so happy I found your videos. I like your detailed content and I praise you for not assuming beginners know basic terms. I am more confident after watching your tutorials.
mercyandpaign That is great to hear! You touched on a big part of the reason why we started See Jane Drill. Thanks for commenting.
Thank you, this video is 9 years old and is still very informative and useful. Can't say that about the other 99.9% of UA-cam videos on other channels. Thank you for posting this , it's very helpful!
I've been doing a ton of drywall in my house over the last two years, and this is something I should've watched to begin with. Would've saved me a ton of time and joint compound.
You are AMAZING! Just bought a new house, spent tonight taking the popcorn ceiling off. The original job (1980) came just right off but we have some pstch work today. This video has taught me alot and just, love you! For this advice right here. Thank you very much and hope you're happy and prosperous ❤
Genius! I followed along exactly like you instructed and my living room looks like a pro did it!!! Thank you!
you did it! way to go 👍
She really takes the time to explain everything with complete and concise wording. Well done Leah.
It's like watching Bob Ross do drywall.
This is exactly what I was thinking.
🤩
😂😂😂That's exactly what my 11 year old son said! I have to agree!
I thought the same thing before seeing this comment ❤️
How slow were you finishing houses
You get right to the point clear illustrations and no long stories.
This has helped me SO much, as a woman who loves to do home improvements, and loves to get her hands dirty, and a husband who hates them, he'd rather go get his nails pulled out than to do a simple home improvement ! we bought a mobile home after my health got worse, and I needed to be on 1 level not 3 like our house is, but the young couple who owned it before we bought it almost destroyed this place, and since I'm use to a house, I wanted my trailer ( mobile home) to look more like a nice home, not the cheapness of the trailer and by all means they are not cheap at all when you go buy one, but some are cheap made like mine! fake wood everywhere. Anyways, I removed the fake pieces of wood trim running up and down my walls every 2 foot or so, and now I've made a mess and a lot of work for myself, so when I found this I was delighted ! I ran to Lowes and got my materials, and now I'm watching once again for a refresher course so I know I'll be doing it right ! THANK YOU !!!
you're very welcome, Denise! Thanks for writing, and good luck with your project.
This was an Awesome instructional video. I've been putting off a drywall project because I was afraid to start since I didn't truly understand what to do even after watching countless UA-cam videos. This has been the most helpful and now I am ready to begin. I will be seeking out other videos by you and I have subscribed to your channel.
Thank you Leah!! You definitely decreased the stress I had to do some drywall work today. You are are very informative, calming teacher.
You are an awesome instructor. Subscribed!

Leah rocks, she should have her on show. She explains everything in the simplest form.
+dartist318 thanks!! :)
My drywall came out perfect. I was so excited when I finished.
Probably the best and most informative home improvement channel I’ve ever seen.
These Videos have helped me from the start of my project. I have very little experience and have been able to completely build my own office because of Leah. Thank you very much for your help! Your videos are the best I have found on the subject. The videos are very easy to understand and the pace at which you go through all the steps is perfect. I always feel very confident in my abilities at the end of each of your how-to's. Thank you Leah! I agree, you should have your own TV show!
Jason Hayes You're welcome, Jason, and thanks for writing! That is always our goal...to empower people to do it themselves! I would love to see pics of your office, if you want to share. I'll in-box you my email address.
I would love to! Please do so I can share. Thanks again Leah!
You really are the best. Not only do you know your shit, but your delivery is so natural and dare I say, ‘calming’ lol Great job!!
🙂
A Class A description and demonstration, from Les in Australia.
+Les Lothringer thanks, Les!
You always seem to have a video for the project that I'm doing. You instructions are clear and your "voice over" is pleasant and enjoyable. You provide a great service to those of us trying to doing these projects and I certainly appreciate your efforts.
Ive seen various vids on doing drywall on UA-cam and I do a lot of drywall work with my business and I wanted to mention real quick that a 10" knife is slightly bowed, so if you sight down the edge of the blade you'll see it bows in one direction. You want that bow to be against the wall surface. Otherwise the edges of the knife will dig into the applied mud and create lines in the mud. Not ridges but gouges. It can be very frustrating if not aware of the shape of those types of knives. The only reason I brought it up is I've never seen anyone mention this on any of the UA-cam vids I've seen when teaching drywall methods.
You are doing such a great thing for people to learn from. I do construction for a living but there is always something to be learned. Thank you again for all your time in making these videos. You really should have your own home show on television! You're amazing ;)
Some finish tools have a bow.....thanks for mentioning
seejanedrill- oh geez I wasn't trying to come off as a know it all.. I was only mentioning it because I thought it was worth mentioning to help people. I do a lot of floating for drywall patching and I can remember my first day of work doing fire and water damage repair back in the day and the guy that I was working with new the proper way to float but thought it would be fun not to teach me about holding a 12 inch knife. It was very frustrating. The owner of the company I worked for, finally saw me struggling and showed me the correct way to hold it.
Ahh the people you run across doing the trades... Some are asses that don't want to see people excel.
Which is why I appreciate your style.
Thanks,
Mike.
Excellent teacher.
+ShowMe TheSugarWalls Thanks!
+seejanedrill How do I contact you? sent you a message earlier
Thank you, Jane. You made a daunting challenge so much easier to conquer. Clear and concise explanations/instructions. Grateful.
you're very welcome, Julia!
I enjoy your informative vids, Leah!
(You have a soothing voice, as well.)
thanks!
You have no idea how many videos I have watched on this subject! 😳. Your videos are so much easier to understand and watch. Thank you for making it so easy to understand!! I was never sure how thick the mud was supposed to be.
I'm glad to hear it was helpful!
My new favorite channel. She’s good at what she does and she’s adorable. Love it.
Very informative tutorial. Quick intro, attention grabbing and broken down so that virtually anyone can understand. I say bravo ma'am. Another subcription rightfully earned. Keep up the wonderful work.
You have the natural gift of instruction. Not everyone has that.
Best teacher, excellent speaker, regardless of the home repair, I've learned more details of why things are done they way they are done...than in all my years of experience and other handy advice from others! Need to know how to do something, check here first!
+William Prah Thank you very much, William!
Jane I just wanted to let you know that although it has been some time since I tackled a relatively big drywall project. So I did a search for mudding butt joints to ensure i was current and up to date. I must say I watched your video and found them to be extremely educational, helpful and encouraging. I had to drywall an 18x20 room and with your video it reinforced my confidence to get the job done correctly. I wish I could share some photos last night I primed the walls and all looks great, thank you
Leah - Thanks for making your videos, especially this one. It was a HUGE help with my first drywall job. Your instructions are clear and easy to follow. I appreciate your help!
+RFD265 you're very welcome, glad to hear it was helpful!
Leah, you make my favorite how-to videos on house stuff. Thanks for all of this. I love them all and have recommended them many others. Thanks!
you're welcome, Jay, and thanks for watching!
Dear Ms. Leah,
Thank you very much for posting this. I've been drywalling for years, but I learned a few tricks from your posting, I've set up a practice wall in my basement to work on what I learned. Thanks again.
Inna McCarron You're welcome, Inna! Glad to be of help. :)
I am learning so much from you. I'm finishing my garage tomorrow and you make me feel so confident about the job ahead! Thank you!
So glad we watched this video and some others of yours!!! Really appreciate your explanations and the time you take to go step by step. Makes it easy for a dummy like me!!! Thanks again so much for your informative videos!!
Everyone has to start somewhere, I'm glad you found the videos helpful!!
+seejanedrill absolutely!! we've had a flood and are trying to replace partial drywall. (only a few feet from the floor) the company prices are ridiculous for labor... on top of the drywall. we have to do it ourselves.
I'm confident with these helpful videos we can accomplish this dreadful project! thanks again!
Step by step you are helping me build my cabin. Thank you for being part of my dream.
Wasn't sure which tape to use, mesh or paper. You cleared that up. Thanks again Leah!
+ironhead rick you're welcome, glad to be of help!
Love Leah's "can do" attitude and great explanations
thanks!
just finished a Saturday DIY job that I messed up when I tuned to you. Excellent video. You showed me exactly what I did wrong (dirty dried face causing streaks in the next layer). Well done. I really want to try this again.
+The_Monk_Weee! thanks, glad it was helpful!
No wonder I could never understand this, I thought a joint was something you Smoked ? LOL JK, Thanks for the great video and keep up the good work :o)
Leah is an awesome teacher. Thank you, Leah for taking the time to make these helpful videos!
Exceptional presentation; from start to end her demonstration and explanation is well explained, clear, and complete! If I had three hands she would get three thumbs up!
thank you very much!
Thank you for this video never did drywall always been scared but your video have made me have confidence so much detail thank you again
WOW! Perfect timing. Just removed wallpaper from bathroom and now I'm cleaning the glue off. Then I'll be ready for this stuff.! Thanks.
happyheart42 You're very welcome, and good luck with your drywall project!
OUTSTANDING! You have me ready to tackle my drywall jobs at home now!! Thanks a lot Ma'am!
+kev bra you're very welcome, Kev!
+kev bra I agree. The explaining of the joints made it even better. Can't wait to try. I've watched other videos and it was too confusing.
I always thought that I needed to have a thick layer over the tape so you couldn't see the tape. I would put the mud on, put the tape down, run the blade over it to squeeze the mud out but then I'd put a think layer over it so you couldn't see the tape. Then I'd come back and say, Screw this!! Now I understand. The whole purpose to doing three (3) thin layers taking it out farther each time is make it blend in. Thank you so much so your videos.
Thanks for the vid, Leah.
You do a really good job of laying out these methods for us newbs.
It's seriously much appreciated.
Great job!!!, I will be hanging my own drywall this weekend, thanks for the step by step you made it so simple to understand. Thank you
35nomoon You're welcome, and good luck with your project!
Your videos are soooo helpful. I've seen a few different ones for work I'm doing around the house. This novice has done things that I never thought I could do. Thanks!
you're welcome, Garrett! Glad to be of help, and Happy New Year!
o.k., so I should have watched this a week ago. I had lost my patience until I watched this video. I am now inspired & hope that with my new found knowledge I can correct the mess that I have made. Up-see-Daisy! Thanks Leah. You really are a gifted instructor.
you're welcome, Candy, and good luck with your continued project. And just in case it might be helpful to you, I'm attaching a link to another video we did on how to correct drywall mistakes: How to Fix Drywall Mistakes ua-cam.com/video/b1YmuWJckuM/v-deo.html
seejanedrill Leah, your a saint.
I just watched this video before tackling my basement reno project. You gave me a lot of helpful knowledge and tools to build my confidence to do this. Thank you for sharing this video. Look forward to learning more!
Why aren't all tutorial videos this well formed? Excellent work, thanks for teaching us how to fish (so to speak).
+Kevin Albright Thanks, Kevin, glad you liked it!
Wow! you explain handy work better than most professional handymen. Thanks!!!.
I have a raised seam under my paper, it looks like a bubble all the way down the join. It was a dry wall butt joint. I didn't let the first coat dry. Should have watched this twice or thrice first! Great tutorial. ☺
Excellent video, well explained. Caution though to make sure there is enough mud under the tape, if you press too hard and there isn't enough mud under it, when it dries it will not stick and will bubble.
Fantastically helpful video! I have tried several times to mud and it's always gone poorly. Thanks so much for explaining and demonstrating so clearly.
Hello Ms. Leah,
You are an excellent instructor. Thank you so much!
This may be mentioned in one of your other videos that I did not see. It is important to make sure the paper tape fold peak fits into the joint and not sits up. I love your instruction and am just getting ready for a second coat. Had to do a lot of smoothing first LOL. There is an art to this that's for sure. I also love the mesh the hot mud and the finishing tips you give. I went over and looked at all my screw heads again as well :-)
thanks for your comments!
Awesome Video, I recently lost my whole basement due to floods in Michigan, needless to say most contractors are double dipping so I am gonna try this myself. Thanks for the video it will help my struggle. Thanks
Johnathan Lancaster Glad to be of help... Good luck with your project!
You Madam are a godsend.............I love your teaching style.
+Twistnthewind thank you very much, that is nice of you to say!
A joint I rolled a staggered joint is when your already baked
EXCELLENT VIDEO. Thanks for the occasional editing. That made it easy to follow.
Who is this woman! What a terrific video. i am so sorry I didn't watch this long, long ago. Thank you.
Nice job on the videos. I just completed the first coat on a drywall repair (entire lower half of a bedroom wall and closet) and I had some questions on the second, third coat. Your video was perfect and answered my questions. Again, thank you for doing these videos. Subscribing now.
swwilkinsin Welcome and happy to hear the video was helpful.
seejanedrill
Thank you so much! I hope you don't mind I have another question: sometimes I have big gaps between the two pieces of plasterboard: shall I fill those in first with mud and allow it to dry, and on the next day I can start with the first coat, or shall I fill them and apply the tape on the same day? thank you for great videos and advice!
Paola Bisicchia No problem with additional questions. Best practice is to pre-fill any gaps bigger than 1/4-inch with setting type (dry mix) joint compound before beginning the taping process. It should set up quickly enough for you to tape the same day.
You are nothing but amazing. Got started after watching your video and I am confident is going to look great. Thanks!!!
you're very welcome! glad to be of help.
Wow! Excellent instruction! Makes it really clear and understandable. I like the explanations coupled with demonstration makes it so instructional. You should have her own DIY TV show!!
Thanks Leah for yet another great tutorial. I am now a confirmed fan.
+brockberryman you're welcome, and thanks!
Great personality, high skill professional, excellent instructor
So informative and you didnt rush through it like most videos. thank you my little job is looking great. Almost time for final coat.
Your videos literally showed me how to hand drywall in my garage, thank you!
Fantastic! Glad to hear it. 🙂👍
Great video. What I like to do on a but joint is to take my utilaty knife and bevel the edges to knock off that raised paper edge from the cutting from the factory. That seem to help that little bump that some times you end up with on your joint. Just my tip that works for me.
Straight to the point just how a video should be awesome job.
Very well explained thanks for sharing your experience :)!You 're a good teacher because you explain the ''WHY'' in the technical parts and mix.
+Max “GOODVIBE” N thank you very much, I appreciate your comments!
+seejanedrill That's the least to do!Just paying forward for the knowledge you give to us :)!Thanks again I appreciate it!
I think she is great! Love how clear and easy to understand her instructions.. Thank you. I'm going to try to do my house.
Very Good explanation on doing this!!!! I really enjoyed the through you put forth in explaining the coats and the purpose. Just so I'm on the same page. The first 2 coats was hot mud & the final coat evidently was the all purpose? Going to be doing this project next and your video helped me out alot! Thank you. Btw I've enjoyed your other video's as well. You do need your own t.v. show! Your very good at home improvements! Thanks again!
awesome ! I now want to see you show how to do inside and outside corners -- and the sanding -- great job explaining
Kim Lake Thanks, Kim! Hope you like our inside and outside corner (and sanding) videos too!
Great video! Glad I just looked this up before my project. Thanks, Leah! Will be back for more vids.
you're welcome, Dan, and thanks!
It's a masterpiece. She makes it look easy.
Oh my god. Thank you so much for this very instructional video. I learned how MUCH mud to put on. I was being too cautious and sparing, and it was taking me forever. (I am very inexperienced, this is my first try.)
Someone embedded your video in the comments section of the This Old House instructions on "How to Finish Drywall". That is how I found you.
I am LOVING these videos! Thanks Leah!!
