97 Camaro with intermittent radio power and the VATS security light is always on, but it now allows me to start the car. At one time, I would have to cycle the key to start the car. I did have a mouse problem but never looked behind the glove box. So the BCM is coming out for inspection! This video is a life saver! Thanks.
Thanks for making this - this is easily the best video I've found out there about getting the BCM out of a 4th gen firebird/Trans Am/Camaro. Great descriptions and photos of how it's actually held in there.
You are very welcome. A lot of videos skip the removal and if you don't know what you're looking for it can be a pain especially reinstalling. Hope the repair goes smooth for you.
Thanks for the video! I think re-soldering fixed my problems of the Windows, Mirrors, and Radio cutting on and off randomly. Hardest part for me is actually reinstalling the kick panel! No joke. I can't seem to line up the screw holes get it back in the proper spot without forcing and warping the panel. It feels like the cables or something is blocking the panel. Can't tell if it's because I didn't put the box back in the bracket in case I need to disconnect the module again. Anyone doing this repair, take really good note of how the panel is installed especially at the footwell area.
Glad it helped! Yeah the kick panel is annoying especially trying to loosen or tighten the screw next to the seat. It could be the cable but most time I have to man handle it.
You are correct, but I doesn't want to bother those too much since they were pretty firm on the board still. Being over 20 years old and still connected, I won't complain too much. Lol
@@tuskegee87 Oh, no worries. But it just might make sense to put that in the description. Makes no sense to leave them and reinstall the module and come back for another round...
Glad to hear that the window and radio are working. You might want to check your starter relay, the cable from the battery to the starter or your fuses.
@@tuskegee87 thanks for the reply. I figured it out though. Opened the BCM back up and found that I had some flux on the board from where a soldered it.
My drivers side window switch just quit working intermittently. I noticed when I hit the switch the radio pops. I wonder if I am having the same issue. Mine is a 2000 SS with 62k miles. Just put it back on the road for the first time in years. Love these cars.
I feel the same love for these F-Bodies as you do. Around 60-70K miles this becomes a common issue with the 4th gen Camaros. Usually resoldering the BCM section in the video will fix it.
How do you remove the 2 connectors on the right side of the bcm box? You can see em around the 4 minute mark and they have the gray tabs sticking out. I haven't been able to get either out, and pulled the grey tabs out of 1 of them.
Greetings, Once you pull on both the gray tabs and they pop out, you will also need to use a Philips head or something similar to push in on the side of where it plugs in at. There is a secondary retainer holding the plug in. I believe I referenced it around the 6:51 mark.
@@tuskegee87 all the lights on the dash turn on, and the rpms , gas guage and mph needles keep moving. I put a new battery, starter was tested, new ignition control module, relays are good but the key doesnt turn the car on. I can jump the starter by running a wire to the positive terminal of the battery and it turns on and stays on with the key on the on position. But i cant find the reason as to why the car doesnt turn on with the key...
@@raynaldolopez3780 the bcm commands the starter, vats would just let it get fuel and skip the security i think. i was just reading about this on a forum post about swaping a 98 bcm into a 99 firebird

I'd point out that there appears to be a LOT more bad solder on that board besides that relay terminal.

So I did this and afterwards the windows and radio worked great but the car would no longer start. Do you know why this might happen?

What if it goes off then on when you hit a bump? Wire issue or still this issue?
Its pretty much the BCM. That was exactly what happened for me. Every bump, it cuts off then back on
About to do this myself. Why do you need to remove the kicker panel?
I just use a flat head screw driver or you can use small plyers to pull the tabs out
could this be the cause of a no crank no start? i did the vats delete on my camaro cause i thought that it was the issue but it still doesnt crank
Not this particular relay but the BCM would still be a good place to look. What symptoms are you having associated with it not starting?

im chasing a parasitic power draw and it has everything to do with the harness to the radio lol its a mess
at least a radio is something you can wire directly by itself, you might lose the wheel buttons tho
Anyone had knock sensor codes come up because of the bcm ?
