Well not always. There are forms of English in the carribean that's technically English but barely. I can't understand half of what they are saying but it's still their first language. Not that I'd make fun of them though of course. I just can't understand them.

I am still embarrassed about pronunciation. Getting words wrong didn't make me feel bad, I laughed at it. But pronunciation still stresses me out. I'd rather read, write, & listen to, than speak, foreign languages because pronunciation is so difficult it makes mi cabeza derretida, ma tete fondue, mi testa fusa. (Yes, I am having fun with the "undermelt" quote so I expanded on it. When something is hard or stressful I say it makes my brain melt, undermelt, & overmelt.) My language classes were years ago, middle & high school, but I still remember getting embarrassed about having to pronounce.

Actually, there are some fluent English speaking characters who misuse words in that way: Kelly Bundy from "Married with Children", Eric Matthews from "Boy Meets World" & Tim the Tool Man Taylor when he is retelling a story Wilson told him. They would so totally say "thin ice-shells" at some point. Someday I am going to serve ice cream scooped very thinly & call it Thin Ice Shells.

Grammar is easy except for irregular verbs. Pronunciation would get me an F minus though. I'd *rather read & write* than *speak* foreign languages. I can imagine Gloria saying "Ayyy Claire your accent sound muy estupida!" And I would say "si! Es dificil to pronounce properly in foreign languages!!!!! But it (my accent) also sounds tres stupide in French & molto stupida in Italian. Gimme a piece of paper & I'll write everything instead of speaking." BTW, I like to read multilingual instruction manuals.

en si ... si la hay... en español la "h" no suena, en el inglés.. si además en español la palabra helicóptero es más larga que en inglés ... si tú pronuncias en inglés helicóptero como en español creo que si te entienden pero suena raro y la gente te quedará mirando... por eso creo que ella si sabía pero como que mejor le pregunta para asegurarse :P

MissSmilerbelieber (translation) yeah, her brains are mixed up like tapioca on a helicopters blade, but the way she talks what's the difference?

tom wright I said that the fact that she doesn't know how to say helicopter in english doesn't make sense because it's easy. In Spanish it's "helicóptero" and in english it's "helicopter", so there isn't a big difference when you translate it :)

The coal digger one wasn’t Gloria’s mispronunciation, it was Luke’s. He blurted out at the family dinner that his mum had said Gloria was a “coal digger” and that was what Gloria was replying to.
