DJI Avata "Find My Drone" After Crash

  • A lot of people seem to be loosing their Avata drone and are having a hard time finding the drone. In some cases the drones have not been found at all based on videos published on UA-cam. This video shows how you can find your drone in the event of a crash even if the battery is ejected. Most folks are using the last 30 seconds of video to try to locate the drone but this can be challenging in some landscapes where everything looks the same. The GPS coordinates are usually a more precise way to locate the drone. It has worked for me numerous times.

    Amazing job my friend. I was running like headless chicken looking for my drone until I saw your video. I was using dji app without connecting it to the googles. Nightmare!
    You save it bro. Found my drone next morning after uploading location from googles. Big thanks from Ireland 😊

    This was so helpful. Thank you. I’m gonna go out and give it a try before I inevitably crash again.

    Thanks for a great post. My new Avata crashed in some dense trees and brush. I searched and searched. The next day I watched this post and found it. Never would have if I didn't use this method.

    Great demonstration! I have seen so many people crashing this drone and only using the video to find it! They claim if the battery disconnects you can't use Find My Drone.

    One..if not the only ONE well done !! Simple and on the dot ! Bravo and GRAZIE 🙂 Just lost the battery yesterday.. Not sure how as it is so fixed in... today we will try this method to find it. my son found the drone and walked away.. so we do not know exactly where he found it :-) 🙂

      Hope you find it. Be sure to not turn on the drone or any other drone before you find it because the DJI Fly App will then show the GPS coordinates of that drone instead. Best to just connect the Goggles to the DJI Fly App and record the coordinates first. Good Luck!

    Great information and right to the point. I was thinking after watching some of the more famous youtubers hunting down their drone in 110 degree heat, why are they not using the app to find the drone? I'm thinking, don't they know how it works ? Apparently not ! Thanks for doing this video and confirming what I had already suspected, that the drone did not need power to use the app. Cheers from Utah. ;-) Two thumbs up... BTW, I live in Moab.

      Moab Awesome! We travel around that area often, most beautiful part of the country! I watched those videos of the guys loosing their drones, 2 of them were right out here in Red Rock close to where I flew this video, so I posted a comment asking if they tried "Find My drone". He deleted my post! Thats kinda why I did the video, hate to see folks loosing their drones when they could be easily finding it with the DJI Fly App. Thanks for watching

    Fantastic video, thank you. Super helpful for a newbie like me to study your video before going out an getting too crazy with my Avata. How did you get your Flight Data Center to show imperial rather than metric? I'm in the US on an iPhone and have changed my Avata goggles to use imperial. But my Flight Data Center is still entirely metric system.

    • @thecuriousnomad4712
      @thecuriousnomad4712  Рік тому

      Glad you liked the video. Somewhere in the Flight Data center there is a setting to change to Imperial, been a long time so dont remember where it is

    Hi, great video, I learned something new again :) thank you for it. But I have a question. Is it possible that if I didn't have my iPhone connected to the glasses during the flight, my GPS was not saved during the flight? :(

    • @thecuriousnomad4712
      @thecuriousnomad4712  Рік тому

      No. The flight data and GPS coordinates are stored in the Goggles during the flight. The data will transfer over later when the iPhone is connected to the goggles. I can take several minutes but it will transfer

    • @filiptomajka7262
      @filiptomajka7262 Рік тому

      @@thecuriousnomad4712 In that case, there's something wrong with my drone. It still shows "location loading" and the "Find my drone" function shows the Home Point from the previous day. Thanks for the response anyway.

    • @thecuriousnomad4712
      @thecuriousnomad4712  Рік тому

      @@filiptomajka7262 It should be in there. Turn on the goggles and connect it to you phone. Open the DJI Fly App and tap Profile and then tap More. All of your flights should be shown in the Flight Data center including the last flight where the drone was lost. If that flight is shown then the Find my Drone has been stored as well. If the flight data is shown then you can use that as well to locate the drone, just open it up and follow the flight to the end, that will be where the drone crashed or landed. If the flight data is not shown then it did not load and there must be a problem. If it did load then Find my Drone will remain in the DJI Fly app until the next flight. If you have 2 drones and you fly a 2nd drone after loosing the first drone then the find my drone will show the last flight and the flind my drone data for the crashed drone will be lost. But you can still use the flight data to find the lost drone. Hope this helps

    So this only works if you have your phone connected? What if you fly without phone, any way to find last coordinates in this case?

    • @thecuriousnomad4712
      @thecuriousnomad4712  Рік тому

      The phone does not need to be connected, the last GPS coordinates are stored in the Goggles. When you connect your phone to the goggles it will transfer the GPS to the DJI Fly App. If your phone is at home you can still transfer the GPS and return to find your drone.
