You need to get very lucky to unlock via the Crystal quest/stasis pod. One time I got the pod open and got a Crystal crew but wasn't lucky enough to find the Rock Home world sector.
Very rare to get.

First rating I've especially had to disagree with, Crystal B is the best ship, top of S, if you want the highest possible score that's the ship to do it, you're just extremely bad.

I find crystals pretty good, personally, I’d put crystals in low S tier, crystal A in high B, and crystal B in high S. All around, crystals are great.
