Stewart MVP almost every single episode. It’s amazing how overlooked his field and specialty is and yet he usually has the most conclusive and groundbreaking results of each episode
I don’t know why but Phil is my favorite! He could come up to me on the street, hand me a spade, and say we’re going to dig through the depths of hell itself and I would just be like “Right Phil. What time do we start?”
I do think that along with Mick i think he and Stewart maybe the most intelligent people on Time Team, and i think they may be the best mannered people also.
Stuarts ability to interpret the surrounding landscape was always one of my favourite aspects of Time Team. He can gain so much insight without even picking up a trowel
Loved Phil caked in mud, sat on a blanket, I think, protecting the pub furniture about to down a well-earned pint! Doubt that anyone else in that state would be served. I love this programme.
I noticed that too, and that his hands were fresh out of the mud, meaning he worked till the moment they had to pull him in for the shot. The man earned his pint.
Sir Tony does an amazing job with explaining and narrating. I love his fun little digs he has at the crew and locals. It's done in a fun way and not offensive and it's funny. Phil is a dead set optimist, and ya can't help but love his attitude anf dedito his profession.
Tony, Mick and Phil. What an amazing trio. I am still watching, and re-watching, as many Time Team videos as I can, and thoroughly enjoying them, here in July 2024. RIP Mick Aston of course, but these shows were just so entertaining and educational at the same time.
I love that the rain doesn’t stop them…Matt doesn’t even have a hat or his coat zipped. They’re all drowning and drudging happily. Hearty folk in Britain.😉
The thing I really like about scientific / Academic research is that you 'find what you find'. It is the process of noticing, and building on what you already know, to try to better understand. But the key is to go back to 'what you already know', and see if it still makes sense - it is actually that part of the process that builds knowledge. Wonderful episode, I learnt way more here than when 'lifting the turf and finding a villa!'
Yes. To some extent. Gobekli Tepe and the Tarim Basin “mummies” upset MANY an archeological apple cart. The original Harrapan Culture (Indus River Valley) theory of Matriarchy took a massive hit, but you will have to look hard to find the “documented” statements saying such...
Finding nothing is a result, and an important one. If you've lost your car keys and look under the sofa cushions znd they aren't there, you know more than you did before and can narrow the field of inquiry.😉
I need more people like Phil and Mick Aston, plus other none time team people like James May in my life, not enough people have the passion for things and sense of fun that they do.
I don't think many people who've watched the shows know how brilliant and versatile Bridget is. I always wished they had done at least one episode where she was in charge, something that would have showcased her broad knowledge and abilities.
I've just finished all 24 seasons of TT, so thanks for helping me keep calm and put the kettle on. Now I have to go back through to find the episode where Mick tells Tony to go home, take his medication, and then take a nap on the sofa with a bag of frozen peas on his head?
Can you imagine what the team could do with an entire month, an unrestricted access to dig wherever they wanted, regardless what buildings may already be present?
TT were well known for returning or redoing places back to how they found them. That is how they get so much access to places. Those people probably got a nice new garden out of it.
Funny how people are cooperative and receptive when you have a good track record of taking care of the places and a solid reputation for being a considerate guest of the locations that host you.
I love this show, I love Tony and his band of misfits but I especially love the homeowners who are interested in the archeology on their properties!!!! RIP Mick
Loved this episode--all of the sorting out of ideas and views. Stewart's use of the landscape, again, is brilliant! Mick and Phil are treasures. And Tony brings all these elements into a beautifully baked cake.
It’s a good job that Tony Robinson is there to interpret the archeologist speak, they throw in words like “sontage” that are either Latin in origin or they had, as Tony said, to much crazy juice. 😂👍🇬🇧🏴 I am glad that they have Phil and Tony as a comedy double act, they are like the original “odd couple”
Found this again about a year after my last comment, that bit in the pub, Not round not straight but wiggly, always makes me laugh. Something struck me whilst watching this. I learned a couple of things watching time team not related to archaeology. One, find your 'thing', your passion, and what you're good at, don't look at how fat your wallet will get, that should be further down your list of reasons to do something, And 2, teamwork, working with other people to reach a goal, it's shouldn't be about competition, that "I make more money/sell more than you do" attitude doesn't help anything.
If my imagination strays from the scientific aspects of the project, I find myself admiring the hard work and expense that these ancient people put in to protect and beautify their town as they experienced the changes of their civ.
Less than a minute into this episode and Tony has me grinning. The town has “its priorities straight” because there are no shops but two pubs. Plus how he just walks into a random house and tours around in it. ☺️
I laughed when Guy smoothly said that "unless they (the Roman soldiers) were very camp" there were likely women on the site, due to the beads and hair pins.
It's funny because current archaeology doesn't distinguish these finds as specifically male and female anymore. There have been male buriels found with beads and female with swords etc. 😅
@@KristinaLavall Of course. I just love the dry wit of the Time Team crew. 🙂 Roman soldiers might not have been buried with a lot of beads and gew-gaws, but the Celts and the Norse were much more prone to being "camp", as were other ancient peoples. Archaeologists can still distinguish between male and female skeletons, obviously. Grave goods are less definitive.
Stewart MVP almost every single episode. It’s amazing how overlooked his field and specialty is and yet he usually has the most conclusive and groundbreaking results of each episode
Hence why he is now a professor. Smart man!
The silent achiever
It’s like you don’t know anything at all...
he knows nothing
I don’t know why but Phil is my favorite! He could come up to me on the street, hand me a spade, and say we’re going to dig through the depths of hell itself and I would just be like “Right Phil. What time do we start?”
Before these aired my mental image of an archeologist was someone in early 1900's outfits, now its Phil leaning on a shovel or pickax
Me too! And make sure he had a good cup of tea or brew! So down to earth.
I feel the same, I would go with ya'll!!! HAPPY DIGGING.....love the way Phil twiddles his spade as he had a drum stick.
It's the cutoff shorts and the hat, gotta be.
Phil and frAncis and tony make this program what it is
Kudos to the villagers and fowls allowing Time Team to dig up their yards and streets.
I love Stewart...he is so clever and never disappoints....I hope he is teaching others to read the landscape...we wouldn’t want to lose his skills...
He is a visiting professor at Chester University, according to Wikipedia.
He has some tasty lectury things on youtube

He's great, I'd love to have him with me on all my country walks.
At first I wasn’t keen on him at first but now I have to agree with you
"I have a feeling I did love my greenhouse...". Very funny. Good man. Excellent stuff, thanks.
What I love most about Time Team that it is way more than the sum of its parts.
Phil in the pub still covered in mud… love it.
Phil's trowel flick @ 4:20 ! a rockstar of archaeology!
I'm sure he does that in his sleep. :)
Sir Tony does an amazing job with explaining and narrating. I love his fun little digs he has at the crew and locals. It's done in a fun way and not offensive and it's funny.

I love this series. I have rewatched so many episodes.
Same
I never knew it existed until recently. So glad to have discovered it.
Me too! I watch right b4 going to sleep.🥀🥀🥀😂
I, as well. Having discovered it during the shutdown, it kept me grounded with the knowledge that life goes on, in a very tangible way.
"It's not round, it's not straight, it might be wiggly, but it's going on. How much have you had to drink?" 🤣🤣
Not enough... 🤣🤣
I love Mick! He was so knowledgeable and could explain things so clearly. All of them are so love-able!
I've been binging this show and I love that even after all the years, Tony asks new, interesting, and on topic questions.
I love that the rain doesn’t stop them…Matt doesn’t even have a hat or his coat zipped. They’re all drowning and drudging happily. Hearty folk in Britain.😉
Archeologists are like that all over. No time for weather, keep going!
I love this show. Phil is in rare form in this episode. Great stuff.

So many very intelligent hard working and fun loving people. Makes your day brighter.
As a kiwi I must say it's always great to have Brigid in the mix, and with my favourite Helen in there too, makes for a great episode ☺️
I don't think many people who've watched the shows know how brilliant and versatile Bridget is. I always wished they had done at least one episode where she was in charge, something that would have showcased her broad knowledge and abilities.
Brigid is back in New Zealand (Papatoetoe?) with her long time partner, Time Team graphic designer Raysan Alkubaisi and their two children.
@@maxsdad538 lol the kiwi has come home.
@@katerinakemp5701 Brig reminded me of a kiwi girl I met in Munich in 1975, great sense of humour and fun to be with.
I never liked Brig at the time. She always seemed arrogant and grumpy.
Great ending. Tony has a nice quiet conversation with five archeologists ... and 350 townspeople, haha.
Who needs a comedy show when you have this episode of Time Team? wiggle walls & all.
Love it when Phil's a bit wobbly haha
I've just finished all 24 seasons of TT, so thanks for helping me keep calm and put the kettle on. Now I have to go back through to find the episode where Mick tells Tony to go home, take his medication, and then take a nap on the sofa with a bag of frozen peas on his head?
If you've watched them all, what is your opinion on Llygadwy, Wales? That was a right bugger!
A social history over 25 years recorded by Tony's hairstyles!
It's the episode about Bitterley in Shropshire.
Gotta love Phil. Would love to have a pint with him. Just a good guy. Genuinely:)
I think he would talk at you and expect you to listen. Nice guy but it would be a one side conversation 😒
@@oliviagraham6898 lol i think our Phil would be a blast give him a guitar and a pint, it would be a interesting evening im sure.
Absolutely, ..Phil and Mick. 💕💞
@@oliviagraham6898 Nothing wrong with that. I could quite happily sit and listen to Phil for hours.
What a great episode. Them all down the pub for a pint how lucky.
It's official, Phil is the most likable man in the world!
I'm always in favour of people willing to sacrifice their garden path and greenhouse for archeology!

I love Time Team music, it just fits.
To find layers of different time periods in a yard (garden) is fascinating. If it was like that here, I'd be digging my yard 24/7, 365.
Another awesome video from Time Team, more please.
What a gorgeous little village ♥️
It is ,some brilliant walks around the surrounding hills, great views.
I love this show, I love Tony and his band of misfits but I especially love the homeowners who are interested in the archeology on their properties!!!! RIP Mick
Phil likes his brew so much that he doesn't even take time to wash his hands before he grabs for one in the Pub. LOL
Saw that! Looks like he came running directly from the muddy trench as soon as they said “pub time”
@@omegasalmonfish Yes! ROFLMAO
Lol a man has to have his brew to fall back on, i like his style even i enjoy a few pots myself.
Well, I don't know how you do it, but most of us don't put our hands IN our drinks. As long as the glass or mug itself is clean, he's just fine.
Tony, finding out it isn't something is quite as important as finding out it is something!

mick: don't you think this line of stones here is very similar to what you've got in there probably the same line?
phil: *face of recognition* ooOoOoo
I watch these at 144p to get the authentic experience
You're mad!
🤣🤣
It is even more fun at twice speed
Timestamp 4:20 Phast Draw Phil with some Phancy Trowel Moves. Love this show.
The good old days when you had a day off school thinking o no time team is on then you watch it & enjoy it.
Tony: "How much have you had to drink?"
Phil: "Not enough"
🤣🤣🤣
I have developed a desperate love for Mick's sweater!!! Lol. I will continue looking on line for where I can purchase one!!!!!
They were made uniquely for him by some of his female fans, every one was hand made so you’ll be lucky to find anything like it online.
I noticed he also had a striped coat, and of course that great hat!
And fingerless gloves!
Love Time Team. So sad that it had to go. Robin Bush was my favourite. Phil's awesome also.
Tony Robinson and company are the extended family I wish I had...❤❤❤👍
Me, too!
29:27 so dramatic haha, this whole episode was wild
"Not only Roman but Jewish." Tony is at the top of his game here.
They all are showing their authentic personalities and we warm to them all. I wish my family were as lovely and genuine
Only se them 3 days a week might help😊
As a expat Brit in Colorado USA I am yearning for some good old Welsh rain.
Please have mine ,, warning of two inches on Wednesday..
Come to Florida. We get rain almost every day, granted it's a bit warmer than Welsh rain. But that isn't necessarily a bad thing, is it?
I suppose it is likely all the best stuff is always found on day 3 as it takes that long to establish a context and to dig so deep.
Such a good episode!
I just love Phil!
good times where still was hope for humanity...unlike today..
I love these people.
Another great episode!!
Fantastic as always.
I totally enjoy this show,I wish it were over here in Canada
Nothing in Canada boring true north strong and free
They have a Pateeon now to help make new episodes. Very thankful this official channel has so many of the old ones! :)

Time team: reverse ground force edition
man beign archeologist in england must be bloody hard job.. almost every episode they have some terrible weather :D
This was really fun to watch.
33:40, 33:44 Phil's got some catish ancestor :D
Had to laugh at Phil not bothering to wash his muddy paws before having a beer in the pub. 😬🤣
Noticed that myself. This pandemic must have been a whole new world for old Phil!
Phil🍻🍻🍻
It gets embedded in your skin when you work hard enough, like them. Washing won't get it all out. Anyway, it's just soil. :)
As hard as that man works he deserves that pint any way he wants it.
What is it about holes in the ground that draws us in. I know I cant avoid peeping into any hole, even just dug to mend a water main.
The rain and foot traffic ruined that guys back lawn lol. Anything for archeology
Great job tearing up their Village! ;-)
Thank you for sharing this. A lifesaver during lockdown! 😍💫✨
Plus, I love Phil!
Epic Time Team Crew
Half expected the Time Team filming crew to be stumbling over the Love Your Garden filming crew...
25:00 That is the real Archaeological !
well you found out what it isn't, that was something ! Thanks

Welcome to being old!!!!!!
Thanks again.
Lol, Phil didn't bother washing the mud off his hands while in the pub!
Good man, whats a bit of dirt between friends.
I didn't notice him putting his hands in his drink though, so...
41:24 Here we see archeologist it's natural habitat... ^^
Nice dandelion collection..ha

Way less dead to comment on I guess 😊
Yeaaahhh, stuff happens on day three! Almost like you should give yourself an extra day or two.
"A bit like the Somme, isn't it?" - Mick
❤ once again phil is amazing great bloat ❤
Weve got three days to find out...so we are going to demolish the village and open our first trench...Phil...!...Mick!...
I hope that village and the property owners had an ironclad agreement with the Time Team producers regarding site cleanup and rebuilding!
It would be an interesting episode showing the clean up of some of these yards and images 6 months after the dig.
'Cleanup and rebuilding'?
I have a question Does it always rain there
Was this valley constantly flooding, causing so much dirt to cover these ruins?
Historia est magistra vitae
