  • Town Historian John Demmer along with local author and historian David Wilson presented an hour of history on the North West section of Nutley. The “today and yesterday” format lets you place yourself in twenty historical locations. William Lambert, architect and developer, was highlighted for his contributions to the development of Nutley (formerly Franklin). Early industrial development in Nutley was also discussed including the first electric power plant, quarry, hat factory and more.
Andy Conte did the recording and editing of the presentation.

Thanks to Commissioners Mr Frank Cocchiola / Mr Carmen Orechio.
My Uncle Frankie Cocchiola & My Cousin Mr Carmen Orechio.
Rest in Peace. They Really were amazing Commissioners in Nutley and did A'lot for Nutley and I'm Honored to have lived in Nutley for a Number of Years, The Board of Commissioners Really made the town a Family type of Community for The Residents.
Thank You NPD & NFD & BOC. Stay Safe.

Thanks for your great video! It's amazing to me that Nutley had THREE train stations on the Erie Railroad's Newark Branch, and sadly, NONE of them survived! I grew up across the river in the Town of Yorktown (in northern Westchester County), and we had FOUR stations on the long-gone New York Central RR's Putnam Division (now the North County Trailway), only one of which (Yorktown Heights) survived. It's a crime that these valuable transportation facilities were taken away, especially from close-in suburbs like Nutley which could really use them today. Thanks for educating me on Nutley's industrial and architectural past - I learned a lot! Especially liked the story about how the trolley ended up on Franklin Avenue instead of Passaic Avenue, which eventually shifted the commercial center of the town from one street to the other! Was Franklin Avenue the only Public Service trolley line to serve Nutley?
