37 years? Almost as old as me! I wasn't sure if I should tell Fran, but I did.
Tascam M-2516, a thing of beauty, a joy for ever... Bring back the wooden sides on mixing consoles, for cryin' out loud! Those things had STYLE.
This reminds me of how I got my first real deal scope 20 years ago. ZRK OS102, totally tubular and clearly inspired by Tektronix. An audio gear repair shop had one kicking around and they gave it away for free, because it was just taking space and they were moving out... Turns out all it took to get it going was replacing a single resistor, and that's how I got a lovely scope that was the mainstay of my lab for a bunch of years before I got myself a smaller and lighter Hameg 204 and sold this one off, which I regret, because it would be an absolute looker in my lab now.
A nice music store, I find the old tube radios beautiful; you don't find things like that anymore today. In the past, people also valued the appearance of a radio. AI will increasingly cause music stores to close in the future. Two stores have closed in my city, one of which had a music school where you could learn to play an instrument. But when I see what AI can already do today, I know where things are headed. Then there's online shopping and cheap instruments, some of which can be surprisingly good. These instruments don't have to hide, but there's also a lot of junk. After 37 years, you then face the question of what to do with all the stuff. That's always very sad.
I'll take those white Imperialstars 😉
Cool store! I bet Bill would love that place!
Really love your documentation, much appreciated!
I've got mixed feelings seeing this. The mix of abundance and squalor, I've seen it many times with people born in the 40's and 50's, especially business owners. Sad to see these physical meeting points vanish by the day. As a milennial I've never really felt like the target of these establishments, but that might be on me.
I agree
I’ve got a lot of nostalgia for places like this, and I’m a younger millennial. But I started music at 6 years old, so I might’ve got a glimpse of what most folks needed to be 10-20 years older to experience…
There’s something special about generalist music shops crammed into a small lot like this, a lot of the indies in my city joined together into one larger showroom which… certainly has more space, and is better organised; but feels kind of emotionally sterile to me as well by comparison.
I'm scared. Everything nice is closing down.
Yeah, truly sad.
been going that way since the 1990s. Its because younger people arent making businesses as much
Oh man, that rusty soprano sax. I’m glad independent music shops are still going in my city, but I’m all too sadly aware they’re dying-out in a lot of places… This place looks great.

Such a nice music store! I wish I could get there, I need a new bass.
Older music stores seem to look similar. I used to go to one in my area that looked very similar.
Looks like a consignment store. Maybe not
Lots of music stores closing these days. I own a small music shop. I’ve been in the music repair business for 30 years and owned my own shop 11 years.
I stick to what I know best & it keeps me going………
I just heard the big store in my area is doing shortened - limited hours now.
