Learning to do this procedure properly comes with great rewards! I'm OCD about my watches and I try to keep those scratches down to a minimum! Lol, to save the cost of having to take it to the jeweler's....... is rewarding!
It requires attention to detail and proper tools, and not a lot of skill is needed to achieve success! Great video topic and content my friend! Thanks for sharing.....

If you care about resale its not good but if you buy a watch to own, I think you can get enjoyment from polishing it and bringing back the nice shine.
Edit: Also I think that scratching your watch is a good thing (weirdly) it transfers ownership from Rolex to yourself. I think being overly cautious about keeping a watch pristine means that the watch owns you, not you owning the watch!
Herb what are you talking about? Of course polishing the watch once in a while is better for resale.
Ring Jäger polishing reduces value as over the years the watch loses its shape and sharp edges
@@pauluk2109 only if its done by an inexperienced watchmaker with a lapping machine. These hand polishing with Cape Cods just remove tiny microns...impossible to polish off a non-hairline scratch or dent.

Ive just finished polishing my Submariner and these cape cod clothes are absolutely fantastic, if you have any hair line scratches they are perfect
I too use Cape Cod polishing cloth on certain watches for a mirror finish. However, I did use it on my Omega Seamaster clasp only that has a brushed finish. After gently using the cloth to get rid of scratches I use a Scotch Brite ultra fine scratch pad and gently rub in one direction to get back that brushed look. It works for me.

I own a beautiful “almost Skyfall” AT (one without the border around the date) and I swear I almost love it more the more I put some wear marks on it. I reckon I’ll leave it unpolished for as long as I can!

The scratches were too little to be sent to Rolex. I'd do the same...if I had a Rolex 😂
For now i'm super happy with my Steinhart with ETA Elaborè movement...runs at about constant + 2 sec / day ever since I bought it 😎

Steinhart watches are a great value I think, a lot of them look like Rolex watches (if that's a good or a bad thing, that's up to the person to decide, but in my opinion, it's a design that works and looks attractive), if you have one of their Premium line I think it's called, you can see the movement, and it looks quite good for a watch of that price,...
I have never had a Steinhart, but they seem to be solid build watches to me
For my next watch, I am actually looking towards Steinhart, if I can stretch my budget a bit, maybe a Tissot (the Le Locle Valjoux chronograph to be more specific, a beautiful watch in my opinion)
Or actually maybe both, a Steinhart as a daily and the Tissot for more occasional uses
torres de coninck indeed they are great bang for the buck! They're moving away from the Rolex look lately. Check out their latest retro-looking GMT with the thin bezel and the patina..stunning!
What I was expecting for a 520€ watch is that they would come from the factory with a measurements card...they tracked the movement's accuracy for a week and they wrote the measurements with a pen and then signed it off !

Probably the best value right now, a Swiss made mechanical watch that looks very nice, is solid build and is accurate for those prices is really amazing
But I honestly don’t know what I should do
Save and buy the Tissot (I fell in love with the looks of that watch, I really want it) and a Steinhart (as a daily, even though I have 3 watches that suit that job already, they’re all quartz tho...)
Or save a bit longer and get a Omega Seamaster of a couple years or just one year old from Watchfinder (just to make it a little bit more affordable)...

Hi! thanks for your instructive video. I was curious about using the Bergeon ref. 6719 polishing cloth on highly/mirror polished steel. Can you let us know if you tried it and how it performed? I'm interested in removing very fine (produced by regular wear) scratches.
I've scratched my lugs on my TagHeuer Carrera Calibre 5 which are heavily polished so the scratches are very visible, would you use this on the watch case or only on the side links? Love the video and you content;)

The Authorised Dealers have the proper Rolex bracelet sizing kit which has different torque set screwdrivers and interchangeable colour coded heads. I wouldn’t mess about putting rubber straps on them or sizing them yourself. They are equipped: trained and presumably insured to do it. Personally; they should have taken the Fliplock off and I would send the watch to Rolex UK in West Malling Kent and have them refurbish the damaged links and keep them as spares and buy replacement links for the damaged ones and have them fit it. You can sell the spare with the watch for someone with a large wrist.

Hey, I have a 16600 SD (unpolished) and after watching this video, I'm thinking about polishing the both sides of the case (sides left and right from the crown and side across).
Can I use the same method for removing micro scratches?
So I shouldn't use the polishing cloth on brushed metals such as subs? But for the shinier bracelets such as the datejusts and the GMT's, is it okay to polish?
Cape cod is brilliant - I have a smooth bezel DJ and it's forever getting nasty scratches that catch the eye and CC removes the sharpness of the scratch so it's difficult to see and in some cases completely removes it.
What's your recommendation for brushed sections?
I have a question Sir. I own a 2016 model Submariner of course with the glide lock clasp. I was however wondering can I put a Deepsea diver glide lock clasp onto my Sub as I honestly find the Deepsea diver clasp a lot better.
We’re the scratches from wearing the glide lock at tightest setting? And is that how it’s to be worn so as to be able to loosen for when your wrist swells or for diving?

@@farshadghafourpour4796 I know this sounds lame, but I put it in a safety deposit box until I'm ready to wear it. I think I will take it back out next week. It sucks, because the branch where I have it stored is closed on the weekends. I'm too busy this weekend anyway. Will be soon!

Hey LWC, I love your channel! I hate most of the other watch channels that are advertising all the cheap watches to the audience and putting affiliate links everywhere. It is like they are sales guys selling all the cheap stuff to their audiences. Stuff that no one normally wants these days but they are glorifying it.

I use the Cape Cod cloths when I start to notice a fair amount of scratches. They work great, however, I do wash my divers before and afterwards with a soft toothbrush and baby shampoo to remove and grime and the residue of the polish. I’m not a fan of the smell of the CapeCod cloths.

Can I use the same method on the yellow rolesor? My clasp where the gold area are needs to be polish off.
Is it noticeable the ones you polished with the original polish of the untouched ones? I mean the finishing is exactly the same shine or you can notice you did something to them? Regards!

A scratched watch is a sign of usage. The first scratch is always ugly but if you get enough it has charm.

Not a fan of DIY polishing. I rather leave it to the professionals. But as a cover-up job it looks decent. The brushed finish would be a lot harder to DIY though.

I am not against polishing the watch yourself, I do it too, however my opinion may change when I get a Rolex.

👍 but my best advice is take the original bracelets off. I understand you guys having a cow about repop bracelets whether it cost $70 or $700. New replacement bracelets are about $1250 USD from Rolex service. Up to you. Just keep the bracelet in the box in the safe. Keeping it 100%, keeps it 100 percent.

Good question. I’ve just an Omega SMP 300 serviced for the first time after it started loosing time. I bought the watch new just over 15 years ago. Omega recommend every 5 for this watch but I it depends on the make & movement. My Explorer is recommended at 10. If you go over the recommended period there is also a risk with the case seals/waterproof properties...
I use toothpaste ..for cheaper watch I use autosol with Dremel buff 😁..
Remove the bracelet. Less chance to scuff the other parts of the watch during polishing.
