    I made this today. And it was my first time trying it homemade. Learned I needed to sear it in a pan and season some more until I got it right. Gave my dad some and he didn’t know it wasn’t meat. Thanks for this recipe.

      yes some nice searing with some good vegan worcestershire sauce... soo good :) glad he liked it!!

      Hi +cinnysangel - Thanks for the tip. I'm going to make seitan for the first time tomorrow (I keep saying this, and keep finding reasons to put it off until the next day), and you mentioning that you seared it, and your dad really liked it, was just what I needed to hear. My dad lives with us, and is strongly against vegan food. Thinks it all just a gimmick to get your money. But Connie's recipe, along with your tip of searing it, just might do the trick!

    I made a full batch yesterday minus the agar agar (I need to get some). It turned out fantastic. So tender we cut them with a fork. Half of them we had with roasted sweet potatoes and sauteed asparagus. The other half we left in fridge till next day (out of the liquid to stiffen up a bit). Then we battered in panko, fried and had with mashed potatoes and gravy, corn on the cob and WOW!!!! There is no way anyone would know it's not meat. My family said more please. Thank you so much for everything.

      awesome I am so glad you all love them :D Yes the agar is new for me too lol. But never used it before. so it is fine to make without.

    I made seitan for the very first time tonight thanks to you. I Always thought it was too much work but you made look simple enough for me to do. My “steaks” turned out great! I seared them in a pan with olive oil and vegan butter and topped with sautéed mushrooms and onions. Delish! Thank you! PS I hashtagged you on instagram

      Connie is my go-to for the meats & cheeses, also love Cooking With Plants for cheeses too. They're great for that good ol' homemade cooking. AvanteGardeVegan & Anarchist Kitchen are when I just want a bit of upscale cuisine & feel like I'm a chef in a fancy restaurant 😜 Altogether, I watch them & wonder how anyone could think vegan food is boring. Ppl don't know what they're missing!

    I used this fantastic recipe, but added in the soy milk made from powder instead of the water in the beet purée. I love what it does for the flavor and texture; thanks for sharing that trick in your other recipes! Then I made my little steakettes into schnitzel that I served with mashed potatoes and a big green salad! My little boy, who’s 10, absolutely LOVED it! Thank you so much!😀❤️

    Today is my anniversary! I have been vegan for one whole year!😀🥑🍅🥔🥦🥒🍇🍎🍏🍐Chef Connie l just want to take time to thank you once again for sharing all of these inspiring vegan recipes. You are so awesome! And l appreciate you!A few weeks ago I prepared your steakette recipe for my non-vegan husband and he loved it. I must confess that didn't mention the fact that it was seitan meat when l served it to him. He didn't ask and l didn't tell.😉 I made a stir fry meal and sliced the steakette meat into very thin slices and served it over rice for him. Let me tell you, he ate two servings and he was asking for leftovers the next day! He kept telling me how delicious it was. This from a man who swore that he would NEVER eat "fake meat". I think that I may be on to something here!😊

    i haven't eaten ''real'' meat for over 30 years. so i'm not trying to recreate something i miss. my interest in seitan is just to be an addition of a high protein inexpensive and delicious ingredient in many recipes i already cook. thank you connie you are helping so many people. much love to you

      The meat people are eating it’s full of chemicals , antibiotics and parasites which causes a lot of these health problems . No wonder some of these pets people have are diagnosed with cancer and diabetes just like humans ,and what these animals eat , “ Meat”. What do they eat in winter when there is no green grass?

    I appreciate how you suggest alternative choices in this video, it is much more encouraging then when people from both sides get self righteous, judge and criticize others, when others are trying and in different stages. Everyone has the right and freedom to choose for themselves. My family is not vegan but we are willing to learn and have been trying different recipes and learning so we can eat healthier choices and offer vegan to those who prefer it. We don't like what they are doing to our foods and animals, and love vegetables. God is the only one we will answer to in the end, man is not my judge, he is my neighbor. Thank you Connie for your encouraging videos.

    I love how you try to add the same minerals, that makes so much more sense than trying to make it taste like meat. That way you get the benefits without the nasty carcinogens of actual meat. I eat tofu couple times a year and seitan. I mostly eat just fruits and veggies, legumes, and seeds. But every now and then I want the flavors. And I made a beautiful seitan tofurky for thanksgiving yesterday and def took inspiration from your channel which ive been binge watching since I found it. Thank you for great content and info!

    Hi Connie, I love your channel, thank you for sharing! Quick general seitan question, if I want to try adding some chickpea flour to my seitan recipe to experiment with the flavor and texture it brings, and I'm starting out with whole wheat flour rather than pre-packaged vital wheat gluten, at which step along the way would you recommend adding in the chickpea flour?

    • @conniesrawsomekitchen

      so sorry for the late reply!!! I would add it after the washing is done :D put it in a food processor and process it till it blends together then make that meat rest before cooking.

    Wow from over head view looks like red meat even when she kneaded & was pulling apart I don't consume alot of meat. I tried seitan but didn't know how to properly make it. With all the food shortages ahead I wanted to learn to make it & try to have more often. I told my sister that being vegan requires alot of creativity. Recently seen vegan cheese slices made from lupini beans. Sort of reminded me of velveeta or cheese wiz. Thanks for the video

      So if cows are vegans and they look so healthy , So wouldn’t it make more sense if we eat the green herbs the animals eat first hand instead of getting it second hand from eating them to get your nutrients? Green herbs was the original food for man until after the flood in Noah’s time when there wasn’t any green herbs then man started to eat animals which shorten their lifespan. Green herbs has all the nutrients your body requires. There won’t be any animals or meat in heaven , so it’s best to start getting use to vegan diets from now.

    Yes! It's not supposed to be exactly like meat, you are so right!It can look like meat and have beautiful flavors and be unique unto itself. When I first went vegetarian I went to the meat substitute section of the grocery store and was so disappointed. I was never a big meat eater due to allergies to all fowl/eggs/liver and hardley ever ate junk food such as burgers and fries take out ect. I saw fake burgers, fish sticks, seiten strips with sweet sugary sauces ect., cold cuts like bologna ect. Which I never ate even before. I thought, where is the imagination of these companies and why all imitation take out! We have a really good health food grocery store in my city but there too I was disappointed. The store specialises in all organic including meats of all kinds ect. Not too much in the meat substitutes. Mongolian beef was sooo gross. Better to learn to make our own. The cocao, coffee, mushroom, beet, I see where you are going in the flavour dept. Earthy is right!😃Another great recipe.

    • @conniesrawsomekitchen
      @conniesrawsomekitchen  3 роки тому

      agar becomes gellatnous and that won't do the same thing but you can still use it and make a different meat and it will still be good

      @ritamurphy9426 3 роки тому

      @@conniesrawsomekitchen Thank you so much for your response. I'll go ahead and try the neat egg then and if I'm not sure I like it, I can then get the agar and see an improvement in texture. I rewatch so many of your videos until the ingredients feel as familiar as onions and pepper. ;) Thanks for making this transition less intimidating.

      Reflexology52 Welsh A "G" is short for Gangsta or Godfather. It just means "She's the boss" at something. In this case, Connie is the boss at cooking. Also a New Yorker here from Brooklyn! Connie also gives me a feeling of "home". I now live in the Midwest (Ohio), and Italians here also have that New York twang. I've always suspected that the NY accent was formed from the immigrants we've acquired there: Italians, Irish, Jews, and the British colonists.
