  • I recently spent a weekend solo camping at Kyleu Bush Camp, situated inside the Dinokeng Game reserve in South Africa.
    Dinokeng Game Reserve is a big 5 game reserve boasting lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino as well as other game such as antelope, giraffe, zebra to name a few. There is a craft brewery as well as other restaurants and accommodation options in the reserve. It is situated about 100 KM north of Johannesburg, near Hammanskraal, in the Gauteng province. The roads are good, and the game reserve is easily found using Waze, Google, or Apple Maps.
    Kyleu Bush Camp is an off-grid camp site featuring both fenced and unfenced camp sites for a true bush camping experience. All stands have their own private ablution with flushing toilet and shower. There is also a washing-up basin for dishes. Heated water is provided by a gas boiler and the roof of the ablution is elevated, allowing awesome views of the surrounding bush whilst taking a hot shower. Stands are equipped with a fire pit and a braai. You also receive a free bag of wood for each night booked, and additional wood is available to purchase at R25.00 per bag. The ablutions are cleaned and serviced daily.

    My vehicle is a Ford Ranger Wildtrak (Thunder Edition) 2.0l bi-turbo diesel, fitted with a Front Runner Slimline II rack over the load bed, a Front Runner SlimSport rack on the roof, and a Front Runner roof top tent. I have a custom drawer system, supplied by Dusk Overlanding.
    For off-grid power I use a National Luna DC25 power pack fitted with a 100 AH deep cycle battery. The DC25 is wired directly to the vehicle for charging whilst driving, and uses a Jackery 100w solar panel for charging whilst in camp. I have a Dometic CFX 35 litre fridge, which runs off the National Luna DC25. I also have a Jackery 200w Solar Power Station for charging smaller items such as cellphones, camera batteries etc.

    How about a new camping club. Give each other tips on how to spec our cars for off road and stuff.

    Great video. Camp looked so quite and peaceful. Did you perhaps hear any noise from the local nearby villages at night?

      Thanks! Appreciate the comment! 😊 There was a little bit of noise coming up form the township nearby, but not too bad.

    Thank you for the content. I'm in the market for a Ford Ranger and I like the tub rack with the rooftop tent on it. But now you use the Medallion Trailer.
    How easy is it to remove the tub rack to have a normal bakkie during the week and why did you go for a trailer? Is to have more capacity?

      Howzit Clive. Yes, I have both the trailer and the RTT on the rack over the tub. I use both, but I use them for different occasions. The trailer is for longer trips, or trips away with the family when we need more space, or will be staying in the same place for a few days and need a home base. The RTT is for shorter trips, or road trips, when I go away on my own or just with my wife. The rack on the Ranger is from Front Runner, as is the RTT. Once the rack is installed it is difficult to remove as you have to undo and remove all of the bolts to take it on and off. I can be done, but it is a little time consuming, so I just leave mine on. The RTT is easy to remove though as it has quick release bolts and just slides on and off, so that I do remove between trips, but I leave the rack on.

    Hi is the Jakery keeping your fridge on?

    • @CampSeekerAfrica
      @CampSeekerAfrica  2 місяці тому

      No, I use the Jackery to charge my cellphone, watch, camera batteries etc. the fridge is running off my National Luna DC25 battery box with a 100Ah dry cell battery in it. The NL battery box is fitted in the rear of the vehicle.

    As a novice person on overlanding, what is the significance of climbing over a recovery traction board overnight.

    • @CampSeekerAfrica
      @CampSeekerAfrica  9 місяців тому

      Good question! I use the recovery boards to help level the vehicle so that I am not sleeping on a slope! 😊
