What is the purpose of Oil Life indicator on the vehicle if the dealer is recommending changing the oil every 5,000 miles no matter what your driving style? I literally drive my Pacifica on electric 90% of the time and got 17,000+ miles on the vehicle before the Oil Life indicator said I needed to change the oil. Even the sales person at the dealer told me to take in the vehicle when the Oil Life says so. But the service department said every 5,000. I find that hard to believe if the motor is almost never running that I need an oil change that often. Anyway, thanks for the video!
I think it's best to pull the dipstick every now and then to look at the oil condition. It's easy to see if the oil is dirty. The oil life is based on driving habits, temperatures, engine idle hours blah blah blah, a lot of different factors. You'll also have to consider condensation in the oil caused by short run times and ambient temperature changes. I think a good mileage to change your oil is 10k based on what I see every day.
