I don't go cheap on my feet or for my meters! Thanks for the video! 🥃🥃🍺🍺🍺🏌🏻♀️🎯 Stay safe. Retired (werk'n)keyboard super tech. Wear your safety glasses!
None of these meters are very accurate, even the cheaper flukes are not accurate. You cannot verify component failures on inverter boards and complex control systems. You at a minimum need an 87v or a 1587 fluke to properly diagnose a system. Accuracy counts and separates the part changers from true technicians.
I do both HVAC and electrical. I have a fluke meter I use most of the time and a ideal amp clamp with end read out for when I need a clamp. You are correct the DC functions are a must. Good video
Their is a video on here where a guy does am amp test between the two. The redfish read 50% higher than the 680. That is a serious problem. I'll stick with my field piece and if I am in doubt of anything ill break out my Fluke 87V and I have only had to do that twice on some ghost voltage issues. Now back to that test the 680 showed 10 amp's, the redfish showed 22 or 24 amps that breaker should have tripped.
I see the Supco meter as a highly specialized diagnostic device and not an everyday meter. I still plan to acquire one at some point, even though I have an older and simpler Mastech power analyzer. It would be nice if the Supco cost a bit less. I'm not a fan of the Fieldpiece meter's design. My poor old Mastech MS2108 (the TRMS version) is still getting the job done, in spite of having had a hard life. I'd probably replace it with another of the same, if the time ever comes.
Wait until the clamp on your supco breaks at 13 months and there is no service support and then you realize you bought a relabeled Harbor Freight Chinese piece of XXXX
Man I’ve been wanting to get the sc480 but I’m still learning and haven’t had any real exposure to 3 phase and what I’d need from a meter in commercial/refrigeration other than that l1-3 setting. The 680 is only a couple more dollars that the 480 but the 480 is a more convenient size. Do you think I should just go with the 480 especially if it’s going to be some years before I look into a part of the field that would require functions from the 480-680?
Many techs love the SC480. For the vast majority of the time it is all you’ll need. But, being able to read DC amps is important. Most VFD’s use what can be described as a square DC wave, which means it still fluctuates up and down. It just never drops below zero, which makes it DC.
@@HVACGUY Thanks, 680 it is then. VFD’s are something I’ve been told to study and something I want to learn on in advance so I’ll just stick with a 680.
What would you need the DC amp clamp for? I swear there was something on a gas furnace that I needed the DC amp clamp for in class but my SC240 couldn’t.
How do you check amps connecting leads parallel to source without any load? Maybe you need to read instructions how to do current reading first? Redfish is a specialised ENERGY ANALYSER - not you mill of the run every day meter!
Ive had nothing but trouble with every piece of fieldpiece equipment I've ever owned. I reluctantly purchased the SC680 because it appears to be a great HVAC meter on paper. Mine is about 1.5 years old and it just completely stopped working. I spoke with fieldpiece and they want $156 to repair it making it in total a $528 investment. My advice is just avoid fieldpiece all together. The thing is also gigantic, at 12" tall it will not fit in a veto mc service bag. I had to switch to a veto MCT just so I could keep it in my service bag. When it worked it was a great meter but now It's a $372 paperweight.
I hear you. I bought it just for measurequick. It does work with it but all the other issues suck for this meter. You missed one thing. It’s big as hell when trying to use amp clamp. I made a excel file on phone to check the caps under load with the % deviation. Tells weather it’s bad or good. Faster than using the supco app. I had major issues with ohming out compressors. Seems very in accurate.
I just returned my brand new sup o because the function button doesn’t work out of box.
Thanks for your honest review, I’m glad I watched this before deciding to buy.
Fieldpiece is better all in one and slim enough to fit great in most bags. Personally I use the temp function daily doing refer. Awesome video 🤙🏽
I don't go cheap on my feet or for my meters!
Thanks for the video!

If you look @ the decimal place on your amp reading it is .0490 amps not 490 amps
Just bought one. Sending it back because the watts feature for acquiring running cap reading doesn't work, what a POS !
Love my fieldpiece equipment

Correction .0465 amps
I have the sc480 and I really really like it.

The Feild Piece is better, but You can use the SUPCO as a backup meter ...
Bro where can you get the swivel clamp for the sc680 mines broke
Send it back to fieldpiece. They have great customer service. You can get all the info on there website.
Agreed, send it back. You may be able to send them a message on Facebook.
Definitely call customer service. They are awesome
Good job Curtis.
Was waiting for this thanks!

Great videos sir. . i learn something every time.😃
Yeah I went thru 2 of those supco idvm 550 and they won't back they're warranty no bueno at all
Thanks
Can't compare a 250 dollar meter to a 380 dollar meter. Not in the same class.
You can check amps and volts with fieldpiece
Correct, and at the same time.
@@HVACGUY that's what I meant lol
Sorry Georgia, I have to say, Go blue!from michigan
Can’t wait to watch! Michigan looked fantastic against Ohio State.
Michigan here!!

I use fluke equipment which I’m happy with but I think I’m about to grab some field piece gear. Nice video mate.
I also have several fluke meters of different types. But, the fieldpiece is what I carry with me.
I had a fluke before my fieldpiece,my ass rushed off a job and left the fluke as a present for the next guy🤬
Dc amps is a must to fix anything

That's to bad , I like Supco products but I have a Fieldpiece and they're trustworthy ... Thx for the update ...👏👍✌

Sc56 here
You should get Fluke clamp meter which is smaller and has all the options that you need for hvac industry .
Didn't jim Bergman have lot to do with designing the redfish?
I’ve never heard that. I only know of him from his videos. I guess it’s possible.
Yes
The display digits are to small for me.
Fiedlpiece is better in my opinion

Yeh, lots of hype about a worthless meter.
sz realy matters 2 me
I have both of them but the fieldpiece meter they break a lot, the plastic is not the best.
