Adultery or 5 years at that is not a hiccup. I agree that his sermons should be removed from online sources. My speculation is he's been unfaithful prior and never got caught. I say that because how does a man fall when he's old but was faithful as a young man? Again, just speculation.We are at war against sin, and we need to be aware of our own so we don't slowly drift into a weakness that literally destroys us. We are shocked at all this news with Lwson! This is why most of the pastors I listen to for spiritual growth are all dead. I don’t trust 99% of modern preachers using modern bibles. We need to go back to the old paths listening to the old time preachers. JC Ryle, CH Spurgeon, Leonard Ravenhill, etc. May the good Lord give us discernment in these days of deception.

Not surprising given the hyper sexual culture we have allowed to flourish over the past few decades. As with anyone else, since Jesus died for those sins too, I hope he and his family can restore trust through repentance and love. I have lived on the earth for 59 years, and the days of my pilgrimage have been evil. But I'm thankful for a Savior who loves me, died for me, and rose again.
Wow this is so bad……I remember when Ravi got exposed and it was such a shock…hard to imagine being a supposed spirit filled believer preaching and teaching the word of Almighty God, and completely living a LIE!!! I regularly listen to his material, especially his stuff on expository preaching. Regularly listend to his bible studies. I initially said to not dlelete his material as they material was so good. Now I cant even listen to it now. I am really wrestling with the notion the holy spirit was behind his teaching and preaching, then seeing how this has been happening that entire time. Its hard to listen to them again not have this thought as i listen. I have entire playlist of his material saved to review regularly.
He is a calvanist, he preaches for works and belittles peoples faith in the finished work of Jesus, drop that dude, we are not saved by works but by believing the Gospel.

I agree because of the way the elders issued the statement it added much speculation. I was initially taking Lawson's side and assuming the best out of him that perhaps he had an assistant that he started seeing a different romantic light but caught himself before going fully into an affair, and was repenting of it and turning back to his wife and to God. The way it was phrased it was soft peddled. They should have been more clear from the beginning. Just de-platforming someone over "inappropriate relationship" vaguely worded was not helpful. It would be helpful to hear from Lawson himself as well. If he offers true repentance we should restore him as a brother in Christ. Not in the pulpit as a leader of course. But we should be willing to extend forgiveness if repented. I’m not sure what lead him to this. The speculation aspect of this whole thing is frustrating to me. I wish it was more clear. I pray he repents and turns to Christ.
You gave him the benefit of the doubt - good for you, that is you having the mind of Christ. It is messed up how young she was, that isn't just sinful, it is predatory.
Truth is imperative - I've seen far more damage incurred due to skimming the surface of truth without a full transparency and full disclosure. The sheep do have a need to know truth - not for defamatory purposes, but for complete understanding, healing, prayerful consideration and support for the body of Christ and for the shepherd. Starting around 2016, a friend of mine began sharing with me sermon clips of Steve Lawson. I would listen - but, was oddly troubled. It was puzzling to me. Now - it makes sense. I'm sure I'm not the only one who has been oddly troubled by Steve Lawson and felt guilty - now we know why, and, we can now pray with understanding for him. And, for the body of Christ. And, for this young girl - which as been a victim of coercive control. The power dynamic was at play here. And Steve Lawson was in the position of authority. If the relationship was only a sort of platonic/sort of inappropriate deal, the girl's father would have no reason to report Steve Lawson to the elders. This was an adult daughter - the father knew the relationship was of a nature that included sexual activity. Prayer is needed for Steve Lawson so that he can come to a full heart and mind attitude of humility and repentance - he needs to be free from this bondage.
Just pray for Steve, his wife, kids, the woman involved, and Trinity church. He’s down right now of his own making, but the Lord can and will forgive him if he repents. The Lord can work this for good.

Steven Lawson taught that we don’t have free will, should Steven’s wife forgive him bc he had no choice in his betrayal? It seems like Steven can simply claim, “God made me cheat on you for 5 years with a woman in her 20s, honey”. I’m worried that Calvinism is going to make atheists out of some Christians when it teaches that even sin, such as Steven Lawson’s betrayal of his wife, is divinely orchestrated. If God becomes the author of sin, why wouldn’t a believer turn away in disbelief, doubting the goodness of God? I love, respect, admire and feel mentored by so many pastors: John MacArthur, R.C. Sproul, Sinclair Ferguson, Alistair Begg, Derek Thomas, John Piper, et. al. Steve Lawson was in that group. THAT BEING SAID: The best of men are men at best. I AM NOT excusing this disgusting and sinful behavior. HOWEVER, I did want to say that this is a perfect example WHY we need to fix our eyes on the AUTHOR and PERFECTOR of our faith. Is this devastating? Yes. Do we need to remember that ALL of these men are sinful? Yes. Does that nullify their expository work? No. Their testimony, maybe, but not the Biblical truth that came from their ministries. God choses to use fallen, sinful men and women to further His kingdom -- there's no other kind. simul justus et peccator. That's why GOD ALONE GET'S THE GOLORY. Grace and peace to you all. We don't know the details of his relationship to the young woman or the extent other than it was inappropriate. Had her father known for those 5 years? Clearly, he has done wrong. This is not about nothing. He has deeply grieved the Holy Spirit. That is no small matter. It's the main thing alongside the families involved and the church. The Lord's desire is reconciliation with Him. How Christians respond to the situation is varied. Comments this week show hurt, anger, unforgiveness. Some use bible versus to support their view, opinion, their understanding and squabbles have broken out over that. More division? Nobody comes with a guarantee except God. Personally, I think more damage is done in the church by gossips, slanderers, and people who are judgemental. What is the Lord teaching us? What changes is He bringing in? In Isaiah 11, describing Jesus one verse says... He delights in the fear of the Lord. Profound. I pray all of heaven's love and blessings to every one affected by this sad situation. How does an "inappropriate relationship" with a woman last 5 years without sex? What was inappropriate about it? And if there was no sex, then what was inappropriate enough about it to motivate her father to take action?
I turn off many preachers who yell or raise their voice excessively. Usually they are preaching to their brothers and sisters ! Why yell with anger behind the words ?
Both sides strenuously deny that actual adultery took place, and I believe we should presume they are innocent unless proven otherwise. I know what Matthew 5:28 says about lust, and this definitely falls into that category, but we should presume they are innocent of actual infidelity unless further information comes to light.

AMEN!! Sad and now even more devastating and disturbing news. He was one of my favorite ministers and preached Biblical doctrine. I truly believe he is our brother in Christ, but totally deserves the church discipline he is receiving. If that was deception he was trying to throw our way from that sermon he seriously needs to examine himself with the Word of God, be humble and say no word except for asking for forgiveness and grace from the church. I’m no where near perfect and still have my sin that I commit, repent from and confess to Christ often if not daily as I’m sanctified through His Word. All the glory belongs to God! But to be an “overseer” our God, Lord and Savior Christ Jesus has set the standard for our leaders. Judgement for them is much higher. It brings about much more fear in that God means what He has said and does what He says. For the Lord said in James 3:1, “Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, for you know that we who teach will be judged with greater strictness.” That should strike even more fear of God’s wrath to us believers. It’s a great responsibility and shouldn’t be taken lightly as we see so many (not all) so called Christian leaders today. For the Word of God states in 1 Timothy 3:7, “The saying is trustworthy: If anyone aspires to the office of overseer, he desires a noble task. Therefore an overseer must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not a drunkard, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. He must manage his own household well, with all dignity keeping his children submissive, for if someone does not know how to manage his own household, how will he care for God's church? ...” No matter what Dr. Lawson disqualified himself and rather we like it or not it is all part of God’s plan. I had no idea he was teaching Calvinism. Never heard of the guy before he started showing up in my youtube feed. But that being said, I hate that a family is suffering, and my prayer is that forgiveness will be sought and given, the relationship will be restored, and maybe a family won't end up in tatters.

I agree because of the way the elders issued the statement it added much speculation. I was initially taking Lawson's side and assuming the best out of him that perhaps he had an assistant that he started seeing a different romantic light but caught himself before going fully into an affair, and was repenting of it and turning back to his wife and to God. The way it was phrased it was soft peddled. They should have been more clear from the beginning. Just de-platforming someone over "inappropriate relationship" vaguely worded was not helpful.
It would be helpful to hear from Lawson himself as well. If he offers true repentance we should restore him as a brother in Christ. Not in the pulpit as a leader of course. But we should be willing to extend forgiveness if repented. I’m not sure what lead him to this. The speculation aspect of this whole thing is frustrating to me. I wish it was more clear. I pray he repents and turns to Christ.

Truth is imperative - I've seen far more damage incurred due to skimming the surface of truth without a full transparency and full disclosure. The sheep do have a need to know truth - not for defamatory purposes, but for complete understanding, healing, prayerful consideration and support for the body of Christ and for the shepherd. Starting around 2016, a friend of mine began sharing with me sermon clips of Steve Lawson. I would listen - but, was oddly troubled. It was puzzling to me. Now - it makes sense. I'm sure I'm not the only one who has been oddly troubled by Steve Lawson and felt guilty - now we know why, and, we can now pray with understanding for him. And, for the body of Christ. And, for this young girl - which as been a victim of coercive control. The power dynamic was at play here. And Steve Lawson was in the position of authority. If the relationship was only a sort of platonic/sort of inappropriate deal, the girl's father would have no reason to report Steve Lawson to the elders. This was an adult daughter - the father knew the relationship was of a nature that included sexual activity. Prayer is needed for Steve Lawson so that he can come to a full heart and mind attitude of humility and repentance - he needs to be free from this bondage.
Just pray for Steve, his wife, kids, the woman involved, and Trinity church. He’s down right now of his own making, but the Lord can and will forgive him if he repents. The Lord can work this for good.

HOWEVER, I did want to say that this is a perfect example WHY we need to fix our eyes on the AUTHOR and PERFECTOR of our faith. Is this devastating? Yes. WOW! I couldn't agree more! Do you hold to a certain denomination? Because this is my view as well concerning church authority.

I know what Matthew 5:28 says about lust, and this definitely falls into that category, but we should presume they are innocent of actual infidelity unless further information comes to light.

AMEN!! Sad and now even more devastating and disturbing news. He was one of my favorite ministers and preached Biblical doctrine. I truly believe he is our brother in Christ, but totally deserves the church discipline he is receiving. If that was deception he was trying to throw our way from that sermon he seriously needs to examine himself with the Word of God, be humble and say no word except for asking for forgiveness and grace from the church. I’m no where near perfect and still have my sin that I commit, repent from and confess to Christ often if not daily as I’m sanctified through His Word. All the glory belongs to God! But to be an “overseer” our God, Lord and Savior Christ Jesus has set the standard for our leaders. Judgement for them is much higher. It brings about much more fear in that God means what He has said and does what He says. For the Lord said in James 3:1, “Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, for you know that we who teach will be judged with greater strictness.” That should strike even more fear of God’s wrath to us believers. It’s a great responsibility and shouldn’t be taken lightly as we see so many (not all) so called Christian leaders today.
For the Word of God states in 1 Timothy 3:7, “The saying is trustworthy: If anyone aspires to the office of overseer, he desires a noble task. Therefore an overseer must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not a drunkard, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. He must manage his own household well, with all dignity keeping his children submissive, for if someone does not know how to manage his own household, how will he care for God's church? ...”
No matter what Dr. Lawson disqualified himself and rather we like it or not it is all part of God’s plan. I had no idea he was teaching Calvinism. Never heard of the guy before he started showing up in my youtube feed.
