CItadels was the first card/board game that irreversibly impressed and intrigued me as a kid, so finding it in the first SUSD video is hilarious. I finally got it this year, and I love it. Very strong start, both for SUSD and for me.
Id like to also recommend; mark browns game makers toolkit, AI and games, GDC, extra credits. Few more that escape me. But I assume you've heard of most. Good will!
@@garygnunewzoorevue5748 I have but thanks for the recommendations all the same! I've got to say. 10 months after commenting here and having watched many, many SU&D videos since, I can confirm that I have learned SO much that has helped me become a better designer from these videos. Not only do the guys have a huge amount of experience playing games but they are able to express such perceptive observations on what makes them good or bad. Hearing that is solid gold to a game designer.
classic! you guys actually started off on a decent note. getting b-roll, doing an intro, adding music... as far as first episodes go, this was a strong start.
Dude, I remember watching this on your website like 6-7 years ago. Crazy how far you guys have come! Just recently found the channel again, and can't wait to catch-up on what I've missed over the years!
Hooray! What a lovely trip down memory lane. I'm so glad a wider audience will finally get to see these! So much of my board game library comes from the first two seasons of this show, and so many happy memories of watching these with my friends and immediately going "god, we've got to get that". Thanks again, lads!
Never seen the early episodes so was great to see this one thanks. Its cool to see how the series has developed over time too and you really have perfected your style. Great stuff :)
I'm so glad that you're reuploading these! I really enjoyed these episodes and specials. It's a bummer that you can't monetize them but I'm just glad they are accessible here on UA-cam.
1:45 - I was watching season 7's episode 2 ("Man Jam") of Peep Show and immediately remembered that game shop ... from this episode of Shut Up & Sit Down !
11 years... I remember watching them on another platfrom. SU&SD and TableTop got me back into boardgames back then. Sadly, it died down after a few great boardgaming years. Hardly get the group back together. Makes me kinda sad actually ;(
Started listening to podcast. Hmm that was not the beginning? Let's check UA-cam... oh god! Never mind the picture quality, you are now my heroes (not necessarily a positive thing). But this thing is so marvellously geeky. I almost fear seeing the next episode since you might mess it up and end up almost normal!
Love love love these early episodes, but I don't recall the sensational use of music. Have they been re-cut to include these licensed tracks? Makes such a difference.
Wow this was strangely hard to find. Doesn't come up in the youtube search results for "SU&SD Memoir '44" at all. (Or at least not in the first two dozen hits)
I disagree with the notion that Citadels is just as good with any player count. This game became popular in my dorm and we frequently played with high counts of 6, 7, even 8 players. It quickly wore out its welcome; rounds take far too long, attentions wane, and suddenly we were reaching hour playtimes. Citadels is best at 4, good at 5, and I'll never play it again with more! (Feel free to reply from the distant English past)
This is one of their first videos I would guess. They are today the BEST presenter of Boardgames "on the Market". They beat The Dice Tower, Will Wheatons Tabletop, Dead Viking (which are ALL GREAT btw!) etc.
I think the joke may have just flown over your head. Just missed it. Couldn't have gone far, so I think you may be able to still catch it if you're quick.
I hope this is a joke. If soo it's brilliant. If not it's ironic how things turned out :) Love watching this video, but I thought you couldn't post it due to music??
I too prefer the older episodes, they were funnier... silly even. I feel the new episodes just do what every one else does now. An actual review. Which is a true shame because I felt they were different, which was the appeal. I preferred them over just about every other board game related websites/content.
Paul laughing at himself across the table; I thought it was never going to stop. I never wanted it to stop.
It's still my favourite thing SUSD has ever done.

I keep coming back to these original videos, just for the sheer heart and passion in them
I've decided that watching every Shut Up & Sit Down video is going to improve my game design skills. Wish me luck. Here I go.

I came back to this one from time to time as Memoir44 is still one of my favourites ever. That's when I knew we would get along.
watching the video series and listening to the podcast from the beginning. I've watched a bunch of individual stuff but now I'm doing it all. Excited!
5:08-6:02 imagine if that was the entire review video
Oh god, the episode that started it all. How far you've come lads. So glad to have been for them all. :)

Gee thanks, guys. I'm going to lose DAYS now watching these old episodes and the evolution of SU&SD.
Has it really only been six years? It feels like I've been watching these guys for decades now. Time is weird.
First published on July 8, 2011.
@@last_to_leave_lex 11 years now, I see. Time does not stop.
This was the golden era of youtube. Name a duo more memorable than Paul and Quintin, there isn't.
I'm still waiting for their Settlers of Catan review.
now that you mention it... weird. The only time they mention Catan is in the Concordia Review and only for a second.
@@theboardgameguy87 it's a running joke for ages lol
Citadels is still around with a big, beautiful, new edition with all the expansions included and some of the best art in a board game.
I'm so glad that you're reuploading these! I really enjoyed these episodes and specials. It's a bummer that you can't monetize them but I'm just glad they are accessible here on UA-cam.
Finally uploading all the episodes to UA-cam? Awesome!
Classic, love these guys.
Oh my god guys. I seriously thought this show was dead when PATV disappeared. I'm watching through everything chronologically now! :D
Look at how young you guys were back then :D
Had to go back and watch the first one. Well done boys, well done. Thank you for all you've done for boardgames. Thank you Paul. Thank you Quinns.
LOL The first SUSD show?! This is cool! When was this filmed?
2011 I believe
1:45 - I was watching season 7's episode 2 ("Man Jam") of Peep Show and immediately remembered that game shop ... from this episode of Shut Up & Sit Down !
it's weird that this is making me nostalgic
My mate lived above (nearly ) this shop when i worked in London... Very excellent shop i spent Waaay too much time in..
Haha I love these early episodes. I've watched season one probably 5 times.
zOMg this is so cute and quaint!
EDIT: OMG! BIG EGG mentioned in the very first episode! This goes back further than we thought!!
My thought exactly!
Great to see the classics on UA-cam.

So the first fruit that came into the show was not pear but grapes!
Thank you guys!
Aw, these are still my favourite :')
this is so precious
TUPPING FELT TIP!!! ALL IS BLOODY LOVE!!! *punches everywhere randomly in excitement*
You had me at bass line from "Felt Tip"
You guys are my fav :)
My god these were the days. This is the best skullduggery simulator on the market...were we ever so innocent?
0:00 and so it began.
Watching this review really makes me want to go out and buy those grapes.
Love love love these early episodes, but I don't recall the sensational use of music. Have they been re-cut to include these licensed tracks? Makes such a difference.
When did Reference Pear start working for SU&SD?
LEISURE GAMES!!! we're there like every 2 weeks for a new game.
They should totally put up pictures of you in their store.
Paul as the king and bishop 😂
Leisure Games was my first step into this magical world as well. :)
I do miss the days of multiple game reviews.
Ah, so young. You've come far, boys.
Pure content
Wow this was strangely hard to find. Doesn't come up in the youtube search results for "SU&SD Memoir '44" at all. (Or at least not in the first two dozen hits)
I got it as the third result
I think this was their finest hour.
I don't want to give this a like, I want to give it a love
Aww you guys
So how influenced were you by Consolevania on a scale of 1-10?
I'm guessing about an 8.5

My only comment is : Why is Paul drinking wine out of a whiskey glass?
Would have been better the other way round?
How would you drink a whiskey glass out of a wine?
miss this :( passion over quality, creativity and great humour
The Song is Love Is All - Felt Tip
I seem to remember watching this... in 2012? Thereabouts
Epic grape shot at 9:15!
Great fun.
How the hell to Paul and Quinns not look a day older now than when they started?
A lot of plastic surgery and sleeping in hyperbaric chambers
Leisure Games. My fav shop!!
Citadel's is a great game for discovering your friend's wife is an absolute psychopath.
My gods it feels silly watching this in 2020
Which game is better citadels or Ave Cesar (Argentinian game)?
Does anyone know the name of the song they use in the intro?
The Song is Love Is All - Felt Tip
It is a bit like watching the pilot episode of "24" or "Lost;" one just knows this is the start of something really, really great!!!
Or the pilot episode of "Heroes", you instantly know it's going to go for six seasons and a movie! :) ... sorry, wait, that one was a false positive.
Little whipper snappers :)
I love Paul but drinking wine from a glencairn whisky glass....that’s unforgivable
Season Zero was awesome
Holy shit check out this pilot ep
classic. :-)
Woah it's Leisure Games!
what year is this?
......am I having a brainurism? ... did someone remove the music from this??? What the ef?... wow they did. Impressive but weird youtube
Did not enjoy. Pick another career; you won't be able to make popular videos for years to come, sorry.

Weird that they let children play adult board games.
That's how you know the video is really old: No Sharia marches in your part of town.
