Now imagine it's 3 years ago and we're in worldwide lockdown and Band-Maid livestreams 6 different full-length concerts (okyu-ji's) to entertain us and make sure they stayed personally connected to the fans. When they did this song for us, my heart burst. I am forever indebted to them for giving me something wonderful in what was a very very bad time in my life. Thanks for doing this. 🙂
This song was written for, and presented to the fans during an online concert (okyuji) on Feb. 11, 2021, the scheduled day of Band-Maid's debut at the Tokyo Budokan. About Us was preceded by a heartfelt message from Saiki expressing their feelings about having to cancel Budokan and many other shows. They went on to do several online okyuji's after this.
Through my life I have listened and been a fan of many different groups and bands. Each had their moments, ups and downs etc. but there was always a point where I kinda grew distant from said bands and moved to someone else. Band-Maid for some reason just grabbed me and hasn't let go all this time. There really is something special about these girls because each song, each performance, each live is just ... Memorable (see what I did there xD) gotta love the Maids ♥
"About Us", in the vein of other great mid-tempo Band-Maid songs like Bestie, Daydreaming, Anemone, Endless Story, PAGE, Wonderland, Awkward, Start Over, Mirage, At the Drop of a Hat and Smile, is an amazing song and personal message to their fans - a direction I'm glad to see them add to their journey toward world domination. And we get to hear MISA play the vibe she so enjoys. Their beautiful DVD/BD/CD set with 100 page picture book of this incredible concert is unbelievable! Thanks Juliett, for bringing "About Us" to your viewers!
How can you not love a band that feels this way about you. The smiles and enjoyment displayed by them onstage, as they perform and interact with the fans... it's not just an act, they miss it just as much as we miss going to see them.
🐦 In a concert held on Feb. 14th, 2020 *BAND-MAID* announced that they were going to play at *Budokan* on Feb 11th, 2021 but due to Covid the concert was canceled. In the live streaming concert *Saiki* address the fans and said how much *BAND-MAID* missed performing live to their *Masters and Princesses* and was followed up with this song that *BAND-MAID* has _maid_ for their fans. 🐦
Well they achieved what they wanted to. This was a message to their fans during the pandemic, telling them how sad they were that they couldn't be together, but that things would get better and we'd all be together again one day. It was a big virtual hug and you felt it like we all did.
I was in COVID isolation with 80% O2 sat coming in and out of consciousness when BM dropped this song. It touched and healed my soul. Giving me enough strength to crawl back to life. BM is a life saver.
Oh wow they were tough time back then, but I hope you’re ok now! I feel like if I had known about them back then they would’ve got me through some tough times aswell ❤️
You've seen the soft side of Band-Maid first. They have slower, heartfelt song like this, and fast and chaotic songs, heavy rock n roll with different elements, acoustic, instrumental, upbeat pop-punk and more. Whatever the type of Band-Maid you listen to, they sound unique. ❤
Maybe Puzzle acoustic to see it "soft" then Puzzle official live to see how they spin emotions heavy, although it's not one of their crazy heavier ones like Black Hole (official live, with Manners). Play (official live) is a fun upbeat one, Warning or Shambles (MVs are gorgeous), or instrumentals From Now On (I like the MV) or Onset (official live). The normal gateway drugs are Domination and Freedom official live, maybe Dice, or the original Thrill MV which saved the band -- all are somewhat heavy.
The Band Maid rabbit hole (maybe that should be pigeon hole Po!😄) is deep, they have slower songs like this that give you a big hug and others that metaphorically smack you in the face with a hard rock edge. They are all so talented, and like The Warning they have been playing together for ten years.
Hi JuliettJess - it would actually be worth another reaction to do @Ohrenje's great feature about this song. It will mean even more to you then and you can see what the song's really all about.
If you look at Miku in the end, you see a sparkle in the corner of the eye. Even if it was closed. I'm sure the song hit her deep at the end. ...and she got teary-eyed. Usually Miku is the one who does an MC during their shows. If you look at the ending of the 2020 show, there is a trailer in the end, where a show at the world famous Budokan. This online-show became some sort of replacement. A couple of months earlier the Japanese government had eased on the restrictions, which made it possible to open up. Sadly, just a few weeks before Budokan it was shut down. We all know Miku as this sparkly and bubbly girl. And, I'm sure it hit her really hard. Recommend watching the "Unleashed!!!" video, which in many ways tells their story. How she was the one who always believed in the project, and tried to pull the others along. You see the pandemig hit and lose "her way". Then during the song you see all of them being apathetic. Then we suddenly see Saiki picking up the microphone and start singing. Pulling the others along.
I thank you for your interest and effort. Quite a fascinating and controversial band you have now chosen to listen to Ma'am. Might I respectfully recommend a Christin Rock group known as Black Sabbath? I would not want you to delve into anything too out of fashion... however; the song "After Forever" is a proper introduction none the less.

What band writes songs to and about their fans? A special band.

This was the VERY FIRST song I've ever heard from Band-Maid over 2 years ago. I became a FAN right away!
The love song to the fans during COVID. A beautiful and unexpected song at the time.
This is a masterpiece of a song, Misa's bass lines take this to another level.

How about a reaction to the official live video for Band-Maid's song Moratorium?
