I'm not convinced the Apex trigger had anything to do with it, but it would still be a good idea to repeat the test with a stock gun. There's just no way to completely rule out an aftermarket trigger having something to do with the reliability issues without testing again with a completely stock gun.
The Apex trigger on Tim's gun is purely a swap of the trigger "lever" and safety to a blade style instead of a 2-piece pivoting lever. It does not have anything that changes the internal mechanics of the gun. . . . Think of it as changing the steering wheel on your car - then someone blaming a problem on the power-steering on your steering wheel swap.
The trigger isn't the problem with the water. The trigger might be the problem you had with the delayed firing and the striker not releasing. I've had issues before in swapping in APEX parts where the travel of the trigger and trigger bar is reduced just enough (because of the built in overtravel stop) that the trigger bar loop doesn't go far enough under the sear to release it. In those cases if I squeeze very hard I can get it to release, other times it won't release at all. What I end up doing in those cases is actually opening up the loop on the trigger bar just a little bit so that the sear releases earlier. Enough overtravel is important. If you got some sand/dirt behind the trigger it might be enough to reduce the travel to the point where it will no longer release the sear. This is just a thought. (And this isn't M&P fanboy rage as I went back to Glock some time ago).
No, it would be more like replacing the steering column, and then having some issues with steering. The trigger was replaced, and then it had trouble (sand+) that seemed more trigger related.I don't know how it could hydrolock though, as they specifically addressed it in the design. That's why the funny shape in the sleeve.
I carry an M&P 9, and the results don't change my mind. I still like it, and I like the torture test vid series! Keep em coming MAC!
This is why we stick with Glocks people.
As a LEO I appreciate this video. On more than one occasion in my job I have found myself in over waist deep flood water. Work in Okc and responded to flash floods, and tornados all of which have dumped massive amounts of water in short time. Creeks over ran, streets flooded. Debris is everywhere and we have to start performing rescues...and 90% of that time it wasn't in a good area. VP9 test is what made me switch...its videos like this that helps me cause more than once I've been in that situation. Thank you guys for bringing this video to us at no charge!
Thank you, stay safe out there and thanks for what you do.
First I'd like to say thank you for your service. I love the OKCPD they do a great job. If you are concerned having watched this video, you might just try to see if these issues happen with your personal variant. I myself have one in 40 and plan on at least doing the water test on it. I don't run into the other issues much, but will try them as well if I can.
So whats your edc? Or duty sidearm
@@stampstepper2393 I’m plain clothes now but it’s the VP9 OR. I’ve taken it through a few classes running it hot and dirty. I have no problem trusting it. I briefly switched back to my department Glock 17 and I trust it just like my VP9. Just a preference.
@@lapuzza1455 awesome thanks for the response
So many tests you could do here, I really like this series. Might be nice to see some smaller carry guns tested, like the Shield, XDS, etc.
I completed the police academy with a glock 17 but when we had our qualifications, I did poorly since I own a decked out M&P as a personal gun. I shoot the M&P better and am more comfortable with it which when your entering a house with a suspected armed intruder makes a lot of difference. Great video but i'll keep my M&P it's been very reliable for me.
There’s nothing ‘wrong’ with the M&P and you shouldn’t run out and sell it for another pistol based on a video like this. The vast majority of people, military and law enforcement included, will never subject their pistols to this sort of exposure. There is the possibility you’ll fall or somehow subject your sidearm to inhospitable conditions as I did an HK usp in the Middle East which promptly failed me. (Extremely muddy sand mix I fell in) But it was not my primary weapon thankfully. If you shoot one pistol platform better, carry it. Don’t be an idiot and think something like oh I carry a glock (or insert pistol manufacturer here) I don’t have to clean or lube it even though I trust my life to it. Stay away from stupidity and practice and you’ll be fine.
Lol what a joke .
Get back to your ticket writing and feelings enforcement tyrant .
I teetered between M&P 9mm and Glock 9mm for a carry gun.
I am quite satisfied with my choice of Glock.
This video helps.
Don't forget the glocks aggressive grip angle, silly finger grooves, plastic odd u shaped sights, plastic guide rod (not a big deal there), and potential trigger slap if you go 40 or 45. I own both glock and m&p this video changes nothing. Features are more important on a gun more reliable than most.
Go with Glock. M&P are POS.. You want your gun to be as reliable as possible.
This guy obviously has some emotional investment into his m&ps
But have you fired and tested both weapons systems objectively?
I have, smith has more quirks
Hey Mac you should do a rifle gauntlet to how how well rifles hold up in different elements
I agree.
I'd recommend checking out InRange TV for that. They've done tons of mud tests.
on inrangetv the ar15 does the best. ak lovers dont watch 😄
Ben Snyder
Thanks for the heads up. I checked them out and subbed.
I was surprised to find that the AR beat the AK in their mud test, but I'm an AR guy so, fuck yeah.
Hey said in the first reliability test with the arex zero that he will eventually start doing these test with rifles. I'm sure it's in the works
Thanks a lot for the test! I am still waiting for the 92FS and the CZ75 as well as millions of other people! :D
Thank you for your fair unbiased testing! Really appreciate it! ❤
Now you have to test the shield.
I was thinking the same thing!
The PPS would be a logical choice also, given he did the PPQ.
I love your Channel I am your fan for at least 5 years from now
+Matej Pecnik Thank you for all those years of support.
no thank you cuz I really enjoy your content thank you very much
4 years here
7 years for me!
I believe its seven for me too,...LOL But in all fairness I had to re-start my channel because UA-cam shut me down for sharing on G+ when they did that change and I didnt know how to fix it,or get anywhere other than send them e mails,...MF'ers...smh
Great test. Not going to be trading in my M&P for Glocks because of this though. I think a lot of people love these sort of videos and they are fun to watch and please those who like to debate brand vs brand but it's not going to change my mind. I am happy with my MP they have always worked to my satisfaction and they're much more enjoyable to shoot than my buddy's glocks due to ergos that work better for me.
That's good but just hope and prey you don't fall or drop your M&P in water and you should be just fine! Oh wait the earth is 2/3 water! You may be in trouble, sorry !!!
some sound logic there. somehow i manage to keep my phone from falling into water 99% of the time so I can avoid allowing my gun to also. And as for hoping and praying I hope and pray I am never forced into a situation where I must use my gun to defend myself or my family in the first place. But if I am, hopefully I'm not also submerged in water. If both those happened at the same time, that would be a pretty bad day.
or lint
I watched the video..... immediately cleaned my M&P 9C.
Still not planning on trading it in anytime soon but this will make me think twice about not giving it a good clean more often.
these videos are just simple fun tests. however the elemental test is the one to take note of. these are just a few rounds shot, I'd love to see a machine testing for 10,000 rounds
Conclusion: It's good if you're not dragging it through sand or submerging it.
I mainly use mine for home defense, but if I need something for out in the wilderness, I think I'll need an alternative. Thanks for posting.
I love your new method for testing! Because you are controlling the variable it really gives a good idea of how guns compare to each other. Keep the awesome content coming!
Wow! I wasn't expecting those results. I run an M&P 40 FS with a 9mm conversion Storm Lake barrel and an Apex trigger package. I've run this pistol through 3 courses this year- a 1 day pistol course, a 2 day react to contact and team tactics class, and 2-day dynamics, PSD, CQB course. The first one was late winter, second in June and I've just returned home today from the last class. During both the 2-day courses it rained pretty heavy and during the first 2-day course we did a lot of patrolling, mainly through thick vegetation and calf deep mud. I didn't have any malfunctions due to the elements or mud, etc. I did have 3 malfunctions between all three classes. First was from cheap pro mag magazines. The follower canted and stopped feeding (never used pro mags again). The second was ammo related. There was a dead primer on some cheap Tulammo I was shooting. Third was on my last drill of my class I had a stove pipe. cleared the malfunction with immediate action and finished the drill. Most likely the cause is due to me not cleaning my pistol since the last class in June which was done purposely to both the pistol and rifle to see how long I could go. The pistol went just about 1800 rounds with no lube or cleaning. My experiences have been different with the M&P platform. I write this not to contest Tim's findings, I'm sure I'd have the same results if I conducted MAC's test exactly, I write to simply share my experiences with everyone. Keep up the good work Tim and I look forward to your next video.
What you went through with your pistol is probably the realistic situations people would go through using any handgun. These mid test are primarily for entertainment but a few people take it for granted and spew out that their gun is the most reliable. You probably do more shooting with your handgun than the guy with whatever handgun did past this test has ever done. Just keep doing you.
Walther PPQ M2 9mm through the gauntlet? Sold mine and got a G19, but still curious. Loved that gun
Me too, I gave mine to my old man
would move to see PPQ vs CZ P-07 vs Steyr M9-A1
I'd love to see the PPQ M2!!
I'm pretty sure the PPQ is going to make an appearance... i think Tim alluded to it awhile ago. I have the PPQ M2 5" barrel/slide and it's more of a competition/range gun for me but I'd still like to see how the standard size model holds up.
If you are using it for competition, why not use the PPQ Q5 Match? It has an even better trigger than the other PPQ models, if that is even possible. Can't wait to get one, but first things first. I'm buying a Cadex CDX30 in 6.5 Creedmoor, .300WM, or .338LM (most likely 6.5C). I can't help but support an awesome Canadian chassis manufacture, now complete precision ELR rifle manufacturer, and a company that hires a boss like Rob Furlong.
If you are swayed not to buy an m&p because of this video rethink that. It comes stock with a solid set of features and 1911 grip angle. Tactical response class I took my m&p9c and in the rain and mud both glocks and my pistol failed. I was loading muddy mags and it would not chamber rounds from the gunk. Operationally striker was fine and trigger worked every time. 730 rounds perfecta, no light primer strikes. Still runs perfect and do not consider swimming before a shootout a possibility.
I saw it twice, and I agree. XD, XDM, or XDS next????
I agree that the M&P is a great gun, but we all know those Glocks you saw fail must have been tacticooled out of spec. I have see glocks Fire under water. But, I understand what I feel you're trying to say, in that M&P's are good pistols and that it was reliable for you In a real life scenario with the elements at work. I also know how crappy it feel when you see a proven rest reviewing that a firearm you own is unreliable. I too have a M&P with APex trigger. So this video made my bowls uncontrollable for a day.
He even says in this video don't base your buying decision on the video.
Yeah he said that cause he a professional. But I bet you my last round he won't carry it.
+Fn Tactical Stay away from ALL water to be safe. Bring along a small pack containing rain gear, even if it is sunny. The weather could always change.
Thanks for doing this video, as a huge M&P fan, I'm definitely bummed, but it is what it is. Hope to see your run a few of the single stack 9mm guns through this test! ie: Shield, 43, XDs.....
Thanks!
I’ve owned a shield 9mm. And the m&p 9 100% stock. Three years of mud abuse, sitting in puddles... one thing I know, is they love to be man handled like inmates.
Me too
After watching a bunch of these test videos, it makes me realize more and more that I won't be dunking my guns in water, sand, dirt and mud within a few seconds of each other and trying to use that firearm to save my life. If I drop it four times I might as well already be dead. Plenty of guns may serve as self defense/go to war or whatever you may describe as your desired use. Some guns that pass this test may be garbage and some that don't may be amazing in other ways. This just gives you a general idea on how resistant some guns are to the elements in the short term.
👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👍🏿💯🇺🇸
I'm diggin' these tests.
I'd like to see how a Hi-Point would do and also a revolver or two ?
No! Test the 1911 next!!
How about that Colt USMC M45A1 you recently reviewed? If the Corps is going to issue a handgun, it better be reliable in difficult conditions right?
MUST!!
agreed!
I agree, but it seems like each 1911 is so different that it is practically a case by case.
Robert Simpson Yada yada yada- that's why I said just pick one, such as the aforementioned Colt that is a US military issue!
Now you need to do a video on the Beretta M9!
To all those who say this gun sucks because of this, when are you seriously going to have your gun covered in dirt, mud, and water? If you seriously carry your gun covered in these conditions then you deserve to have it fail. Keep your guns clean and well maintained and they will do well
Full disclosure first: I carry the M&P 9 as my daily carry (for reasons of my own, I prefer to carry a full size pistol). Anyway, this morning I took your advice and tried the test for myself. I deeply regret to say I experienced failures too, but with some differences.
During the water phase, I noticed that if I gave the water a few seconds (about 5 or so) to drain out of the gun, it fired flawlessly. It appeared to me that in your test, you opened fire as soon as the gun was completely clear of the tub, without waiting for it to drain. If I'm incorrect about that point, I apologize. At any rate, the water didn't give my particular pistol any trouble, so long as I let it drain. If I fired as soon as it cleared the tank, I would occasionally experience the same failure to fire you did.
The sand did not seem to cause my pistol any firing issues; my problems were failures to eject. I had three failures to eject during the sand test. All were remedied by the old tap-rack. The pistol experienced two failures to eject during the mud phase of the test. Again, the mud did not cause any failures to fire. It did cause two more failures to eject, and I was able to clear them using the same drill as before.
I'm glad you made this video, as I too live in Indiana, and I'm intimately familiar with rain and mud, as you are. It never would have occurred to me to worry about these things. I carry it everyday, but thankfully the only place I've fired it has been at the range.
One question: on the ammo you ejected when you cleared the malfunctions, had the primers been hit at all? If you answered that question in the video, I missed it. Thanks again!
U sir have the best shirt in existence
www.coppercustom.com/shop/clothingapparel/copper-custom-t-shirt-hillary-vs-trump-vs-ar-15-2nd-amendment-pre-order/
im getting one lol
what is whith HK USP?
I'd love to see that too
Yes USP USP USP
Yes USP
USP
The MK24 too! Aka HK45CT.
I love my M&P9. It's strictly a range tool and a bump in the night gun. I live in a state where it's near impossible to get a carry permit so although the test certainly shows shortcomings in the gun, it doesn't hurt my feelings. The gun feels more ergonomic than a Glock in my hands and I shoot excellent with it. Still happy with my investment.
Talk to any instructor and they will tell you all guns fail, just a matter of time and conditions. Some will do better.
Same here, love my 9c's. :)
I just realized this comment is 5 years old, I hope you moved out of that tyrannical state.
Excellent test Tim! Interesting and unexpected results too! As you said, "not scientific" but we all still can learn something from it. Looking forward to more.
I vote PPQ M2 9mm next!
These reliability tests are fantastic! Keep them coming. This is by far the best channel on UA-cam. And I LOVE the shirt!!!
I'd like to see how a Colt 1911 performs.
It doesn't
Bravo! Perfect 'Fiocchi' this time! Greetings from Italy
I'd like to see you test the VP_9. this test is more controlled should give different results
That's exactly what I'm waiting for. There was controversy when MAC released his vp9 torture video. Many were saying it was unfair how he threw it at steel targets lol. Anyhow, I still think the first test MAC ran it through shouldn't have caused a failure.
Ditto it should of pasted the first mud silt test
I have my own theory about the first failure of his first vp9 test, but the only way to see if it makes any difference is to see the gun tested in this format
Very fair and non-biased test. Thank you for doing this MAC! Excited for more videos.
all the M&P guys come out with excuses lol. listen all our guns fail at some point; Sig's, S&W's, FN's, Hi points etc. etc. and yes EVEN Glocks (which is my personal favorite haha). Im just noting that I find it funny no matter which gun is being tested for "reliability" people have some excuse. its the trigger they say, no its the GUN. fuck your variables fuck the excuses. they can all fail under the right, or i guess wrong, circumstances. train for the worst, period. all your debate online and "my guns never done that", "he's got this add on and that add on" doesnt mean shit in a gunfight or self defense situation. TRAIN.
StrayWoodFb amen!!!
There are going to be some sore butt cheeks after this test.
yup. peoples butts are going to be sore. i hate the m&p. and its my issued duty weapon. rather go back to the Glock
this is why i went back to a glock.. the ergonomics of the m&p are awesome but smiths quality has shit the bed and theres just to many parts in the trigger for my liking
+Drew Miller glock and sig have had there moments also.
All the old companies that bowed down to the assault bans got neutered and are now a shell of their former selves. Luckily new companies are coming in to take their place. Ruger was smart in quickly doing a 180, they will probably continue to survive.
I do have to wonder about if the trigger played into the test at all. It IS possible, but I gotta admit it doesn't seem likely. Such odd failures.
CZ Reliability Test, PLEASE!
We've seen Sig, Glock, S&W, Canik, H&K. Now lets see some CZ torture! P-01, SP-01 or plain old 75, please just do this to a steel CZ pistol.
Thanks!
If he does that I would like to see a cz then a canik or tristar clone too, just like the sig and Rex. I love my tristar and it feels identical to the cz's I have shot
Only gun with trigger mod?only gun hydro locking?
The trigger has nothing to do with the striker or the channel it rides in. If the striker were modified or the striker spring were modified, I would say that was the culprit. It helps to have a basic understanding of how the internals work.
so you only replaced the shoe?
Yes, I made that pretty clear in the video and even showed the actual part from the Apex website. It's a $39 shoe/trigger. The trigger bar, all springs and certainly the striker and spring are all factory. It's a plastic trigger than's been replaced, it replaced the S&W plastic trigger.
may i ask what year model your m&p is?
Did you have to bend the trigger bar loop to get the Apex trigger to function properly when you installed it?
Thanks for the video. These guns typically do very well in our classes, on par reliability-wise with Glock. Prior to this video, the main problem I have seen was several times the slide release lever bending when the the gun is locked back and dropped or used as melee weapon (again, when the slide has locked back).
Interesting. I remember seeing someone do a water test with an M&P with no issues. He fired under water, and in the air after a complete submersion. I guess the design and parts change over time.
Put the VP9 through this test but use a different one, not the one from your first "torture" test.
What is coming next? CZ? Maybe a 1911? Loving these one! Thanks guys.
I'd like to see some cz's
a 1911 would depend on who makes it. If it's a gun with GI specs it may survive. but if you get one of the massively expensive ones that are super tight they may have issues. just my thoughts.
Yeah definitely a gi model for the 1911. As "standard" as possible if i can say so.
Nice video, can u plz do walther ppq m2 9mm torture test
3000 rounds through my M&P through the mud, snow, and rain and not a single FTF or FTE yet.
Cool, got all of that on video/thoroughly documented log book of use? Make a video putting your gun through these same/similar tests. I'd be very excited to watch it! Like we've established before, this is a sample set of 1, and not entirely scientific. As such it should be taken and interpreted for entertainment purposes only.
Did I say yours was wrong? Did my comment even merit a sarcastic
response like that? No. I was merely posting my results to explain that
maybe yours was a fluke, maybe mine was a fluke, and maybe there have
been changes at the factory. Proper lubrication with frog lube, or the
fact that MAC changed the trigger to an Apex trigger, which I have too
and haven't seen any malfunctions. There was absolutely no reason to be
that rude.
You're an XD (normal and XDM), Walther PPQ, FN FNS, Canik TP, and VP9 away from a striker fired, torture test Royal Straight.
I really like seeing these striker fired guns go through this. You always hear about how unstoppable they are, and seeing what stops them is entertaining.
I'm a firm believer that the Glock is one of the most reliable guns ever made, but even the 17 met it's match.
These have made me really look into the Arex. I'm not going to buy one just because it passed these test with flying colors, and even managed to best one of the most reliable guns on the market, but because it's darn cool on top of all that! I'm not trading my 19 in any time soon, but there is certainly an abundance of great pistols on the market these days.
I'm also gong to echo everyone else on here and say that I'd love to see your CZs go through the gauntlet. I've never seen a proper CZ torture test, and I'd love to see how they do. Some 1911s might be fun. I suspect if will fail easily from debris, but a 92 would probably get a lot of views. (P.S I still think it's a pretty good gun).
Thank you for doing these videos.
If I were a wealthier man I'd love to be doing these sorts of things myself.
eh. Ill keep mine. I've personally never had an issue, and I have the known to be explodey 40 cal version. Hydrolocking can happen to any semi auto. Remember folks they had to create specialized marine spring cups to keep glocks from doing it. :-D If you never want a gun to hydrolock......buy a revolver lol
I've done far more than this with my H&K, not a misfeed, misfire or malfunction!
Us Glock folks are going to give our M&P buddies hell for this... Thanks for this MAC
LMFAO
Lol yes they will I own both the g 17 gen 4 and the M@P pro man I cant believe it
In all fairness it could just be a fluke but that's pretty damn concerning
yeah it could very well be ?? but yes very concerning
That's the key, we really need more data points to know if this is endemic of the model, or just a one-off that had an issue. Either way it would be good to know.
Just out of curiosity, to see if the same thing happens, would you consider doing the same test on the M&P Shield?
I'd love to see the Mark 23 go through your test. I know it's an expensive piece, but I think that would be the most interesting given that it's supposedly the most over-engineered and tested production firearm of all time.
It would be nice to see the new improved M&P 2.0 9mm go through the gauntlet
This is my bedside gun and the shield is my carry. I love them,
please do the walther ppq!
+John Davis It's already done and will be released later this week!
Now I'm all giddy with anticipation, keep up the great work!
THANK YOU!
Yes!
Right after a newer M&P with a factory trigger. ;)
Springfield XDM 3.8 9mm please and thank you. I'm curious to see if the Match grade components will be a hindrance.
Thank you,
~ Kitten
I like these tests. They are realistic to a worst case for civilian situations. And for those of you might know a beginning of military trails.
Very interesting to see. I've owned a few m&ps and have several thousand rounds through them, that have been flawless. I've never put them in these conditions though, so interesting to see what limitations they have.
czech flag as a patch on the cap? maybe a hint for the next reliability test? CZ? eh? eh?
Or the CZ factory tour video...
its a patch, je to nášivka
opraveno ;-)
Cz 75 vs Jericho
CZ P09
Damn wish it would have done better but you can't win them all lol would love to see the cuz p07 or p09
Yes please test CZ P 07!
M9A3 next please! If not then any Beretta would be cool to see, 92 series or M9 series
I have had my m&p 45 for about three years I have been in the worst kinda rain, freezing weather, snow, ice even had it submerged in water, mud and it has never failed to fire. I can't believe how poorly that test went
My M&P9 is my daily carry and im actually surprised it failed THAT bad. Good thing i live in Reno Nevada and we get snow. I guess that if i drop it in a pyle of snow and not water, ill be good lol😎.
Like always bro, good video and keep up the good work. God bless y'all, stay safe!
This is very disheartening considering I carry a S&W shield. Mac I love your chanel will you test the shield? I'm very interested to see how it would fair? looking to upgrade to a bigger Cary gun Sig P320 or G19? I was really impressed with how the G17 handled your test.
We will likely do the Shield at some point.
Ikerock89 dude unless you are very clumsy or careless with your firearm you don’t need to worry about it. Keep your guns clean and maintain them and you are good to go.
This is why I will never use the apex triggers again. Try a a stock trigger.
Josiah Von Briel Guy it's not the trigger. Its S&W garbage. They are not the same company they were 30 years ago. All they make is mass produced, corner cutting, low quality control garbage.
Josh Bridges I'm just telling u guys what happened to me with the apex trigger. Iam not a m&p fan boy. I like glocks a lot better. Can u tell me how glock triggers and m&p triggers even work or how they r different.
Josiah Von Briel I know first hand the apex triggers don't allow as much overtravel as a stock trigger. I also know I've never seen a test failure on a stock trigger. I'm not a fan boy either. I carry as shield but I have glock, ruger and many others.
I watched several videos of m&p pistols pass water tests. I wonder if it's just this one or what
It could be MAC's bad luck.
Zhukov stock anyone? :-D
VΛRZ it's from the apex trigger. It prevents as mug over travel and will cause it to malfunction when dirty. The stock trigger doesn't do this. I honestly think he is trying to give smith a bad name. Probably done the test and passed stock then changed triggers and it failed. I've yet to see a video of it failing a water test or anything else. Plus I don't know what person carries a gun that's swims in mud pits lol. And before you say I'm a smith fan boy I have about 40 handguns glocks, Rugers, hk, fn. and
Many more.
WOW! back to back my favorite pistols, the G17 and now the M&P....very informative! Thanks for the testing! KEEP IT UP, LOVE IT!
Props to MAC for recommending you test your specific gun
Test your revolvers so we don't have to test ours.
Revolver test would be awesome!
Actually a revolver test would be interesting. A lot of revolver fanatics claim they're so much more reliable, but are they really?
I don't think the claim is that revolvers are more reliable, just that they are far easier for beginners to understand how to use, and harder to accidentally screw up. A gun writer once said that a revolver is like a fork; you don't need instructions, you just pick it up and use it.
+Whatfor5 I would love to see that false myth put to bed. revolvers can have all kinds of issues just like semi autos. as james yeager said revolvers are kinda like your old girlfriend who you remember being better than. she actually was.
don't get me wrong I love wheel guns but when something goes bump in the night better believe I'm reaching for something semi automatic that holds lots of bullets
Andrew Houser lol
Cz 75!! :)
I suggested a cz p09 in a different video and MAC replied and said he was planning to do a p07
I'll pay good money (meaning I'll click the "like" button) to see a P-07 test!
...and the Rex Zero 1 laughs.
The original glocks had a number of problems with water originally as well. One of the main reasons why the newer Gen 4's are considered acceptable by the seals is due to it's increased reliability in water, which is particularly difficult for most firearms.
The HK USP was notable for being extremely reliable in water, in one part due to it's extremely powerful hammer. I'm actually not surprised to see the striker failing like that. As a civilian firearm I'm sure it would be fine given that most people aren't going to be completely covered in water in their daily travels, but it's certainly not a military firearm.
Thanks for these torture test videos. If they were all you did, I would still watch every one! Very informative.
Is it possible to make a playlist for "Reliability Test" or is there somewhere we can find the collective data of all the pistols tested? I would kind of like to see how the pistols squared up against each other. I have watched the other videos, however, its hard to remember the past ones.
Thank you for the suggestion, I've created the playlist and added it to he main page.
Military Arms Channel
Thanks for making the playlist! I also noticed that you also mentioned previously tested guns during the Walther PPQ reliability test and I appreciate this.
Nearly everything out of Massachusetts has been greatly disappointing lately.
What year is your m&p ? Because i know in 2009 they did some revisions on the gun to improve these problems.
ok Tim, you knew this was coming. I just repeated the water test with 3 m&p pistols. a stock .40 full size, a full size 9mm with apex trigger and a .40 compact with a 9mm conversion barrel. I used winchester steel case ammo (which I know you have had trouble with in the past). all three fired all rounds with zero malfunctions. I think you should repeat the test with your other m&p 9mm. Just a thought.
If the striker spring guide was installed in the slide incorrectly where it's covering the drain hole opening, there was won't be an opening for the water to drain. You might have to rotate the striker spring guide just slightly to open up the drain hole.
Good video. Interesting results. Probably should us new or stock guns across the board. I understand that's expensive but stock guns make it fair. The M&P no doubt did worse than any other. I rewatched glock, p320, and S&W. You guys are much more forgiving and dismissive of glock failures. Or that's the impression I got.
If you buy the guns, we'll use brand new stock ones every time. :)
I can't afford that lol, but I can reinstall the factory trigger. I was impressed you used a legion! Figured $400 for an M&P was nothing. Seems like the arex is the only one who can pass this battery, at least new.
The Glock did 2nd best in his tests after the Rex pistol. I seen no bias at all. He doesn't even seem to be a big glock fan.
Mac, why not auction the test guns after to get your money back plus some? I feel like this series is a gold mine, I love it. That way you can use stock guns. Do the same break in as the p320. There is no shortage of firearms people want to see.
+NC finest
I don't think people will overpay for these guns just because they were on this series. A signed gun used by Jerry Miculek in one of his videos, absolutely.
smith has yet to make a good Glock clone
I won't buy a S&W product.
Pistol, revolver or long gun.
I don't think they are trying to make a Glock clone. I have the mp9 and sheild and i shoot both better than the Glocks. And i am a glock fan boy.
I don't know if they're trying to clone a Glock... I just think they make shit guns.
i prefer the old 59 series. those r some good guns.
they've been cloning Glock since the sigma which Glock sued em for and settled out of court for a bit of coin. open the shield and it's a Glock with enough change to not infringe. shoot whatever you shoot well.
I have 5 M&P pistols and all fire flawlessly . Of I don't soak them under water or fill them with sand . Or hit them with a sledge hammer or any other playing war games kinda B.S. I keep them clean and we'll oiled. I conceal carry and have no plans to go to Afghanistan.
this isnt playing war games. its testing the gun for real life adverse scenarios that can and in all probability will happen in a societal collapse or even just a self defense scenario.

Daniel Litz I have heard all the end of times scenario's and don't discount many . But if you try to plan for every minutiae possibility , it will drive you mad. Keep your guns clean, dry and carry a cleaning kit with you.In a end times setting your gun doesn't fire , maybe GOD is just wanting to bring us home .
Murphy’s Laws
ImOffTheGrid sell them and get 5 glocks
I do carry an M&P...actually one of 3 M&P handguns I have. I have never had a failure to fire that was not ammo related in thousands of rounds...... I have also never dropped mine in water (once in dirt though). This test was very interesting to me living in the Pacific Northwest. I want to try this now with my 3 M&Ps (2 9mm and 1 .40 S&W, 2 compacts and one long slide Pro model.)
A friend from Scouts was a PA state trooper for 10 years and s now a SGT in a local boro PD. The town council took Glocks off their approved list for lack on manual safety. The MP is on the approved list. The MP failed their environmental tests as well. He went back to a Beretta 92.
hey Mac not saying yours is wrong but I went out and did what you said and this is info for people I tested my s&w mp 40 and did same test with water and mine only had a slight failure to feed round got caught up on feed ramp, however I did not ever have a failure to fire.... my gun is a old duty pistol to so it has a million miles on it or so also I tested the canik tp9 sa in water and it never failed at all as well just as a comparison. also for the negative Nancy's my water is from Indiana as well actually few hours south. just thought I would leave that info for people
I also did the test 4 times with the m&p in a row back to back using Remington UMC 2 times and perfecta 2 times and only blazer brass for 9 mm
Can you provide video proof? Otherwise this is people claiming "My gun never malfunctions".
I will have to record it and learn how to upload but I will try but people will say I messed with it and people will say cause it's a 40cal I'm not just claiming that mine didn't do it I was just putting it out for people to know that they need to do what Mac said and test their own gun I don't really care if people believe me or not I didn't have an issue with mine, but yes I will try to make a video of it but all I have is my cellphone to record it
i glad i went with glock
*I'm
Me glad you did too!!! Jk
I was surprised how quickly the MP 9 failed
Me too.
hes worried about light showing through? ever seen a glock before?
I think a Browning Hi-Power would be a great test to do as it served in so many different environments across the world.
Not totally surprised by this test. I got a mp40 1.0 when they first came out and did a water test and dirt/mud mix with small pebble rocks in it and that .40 had no issues. Shot 350 rounds thru it that day. A 9mm would have less power to cycle slide when dirty so I think if mine was 9mm it wouldn't do as well.
Anyone wants to sell their m&Ps after this video I'll take them cheap.
MAC I noticed in one of your videos that you are spraying oil directly into the striker channel. In our police academy, we were specifically told not to do this as it could possibly induce a malfunction. Could this possibly be causing hydraulic pressure within the area or disrupting the flow of water out of the channel? Just a thought, maybe degrease the components and try again.
Kyle Johnson the water and oil separate and can cause the water to not actually come out of the channel as easy. You are correct sir this can also be part of the hydro locking problem.
Watch crusader arms video on this.....passed with flying colors......something is off about this video and I'm a very basic guy and I know not to oil striker just clean barrel and slide contact points
Kyle Johnson and you are correct I've heard this as well the explanation I heard is it actually attracts dust and debris to the channel hence the hang fire.
I've had an M&P 40 for about 5 yrs now,,,,, from my experience : fiocchi rounds have always been the worst rounds for my gun,,,,I've had mine out doing yard work, ITV riding , had it in the dirt, rain,,,, its always fired,,,,,,,
Needless to say,,,,, I'm rather shocked to see this M&P perform as poorly as it did,,,,,,,,,, must be the apex trigger 😃
Fiocchi ammo is far from bad, as evidenced by the performance of other guns in the same test using the same ammo. It's made right here in the US (has been since 1984) and I've never had issues with it in any gun, which is one of the reasons I chose it.
fiocchi is awesome and fine. perfecta made by fiocchi and i've never had an issue in my m&p9 after i dont even know how many rounds through. more than 400 dollars worth though
might just be because tolerances for the firing pin are closer than others which won't allow the water to squeeze out as quick
Tom Dawson or m&p's terrible qc
+Tom Dawson The way to determine if a gun is reliable is not from one test, but whether the result are the same from several testers. If you search on UA-cam for "M&P water test" you will find several other videos that conducted the same water test and NONE of them had hydrolock.
I get stoked every time a new test comes out, keep up the good work guys. Please bring a Makarov to challenge one day
I'm glad you've brought a lot of the humor from your older videos back. Kind of miss the old intro though. :P
I did a similar test with a m&p40 when they first came out and the gun ran perfect other than the front frame pin walking out 1/8 inch. Still like the m&p.
haha I am going to put my Shield back into the safe now
What about a revolver in the Gauntlet !
oh ya that would be goood
That could possibly get him killed
I'm not sure I'd call the risk lethal, but I absolutely share your concern about the potential for significant injury. It seems entirely possible to me that less compliant fouling elements like mud and especially sand could sabotage the cylinder timing and/or locking and enable the revolver to fire with the cylinder out of position. At best such a scenario could send bullets shavings from the correction of the forcing cone into the shooter's hand (an experience I very much didn't enjoy with a North American .22LR Mini-revolver years ago). At worst, the revolver becomes a de facto grenade.
My rule when commenting on and requesting tests (on anything, not just firearms) is that I never ask someone else to run a test I would not be willing to do myself. Trying to jam up a revolver with debris just to see what happens falls squarely into that category.
Then you did'nt put thought into it.It could be done safely via remote.Tim is not a fool and would not hold onto a firearm in a situation like this. I did not ask him to hold onto a grenade, pull the pin, release the lever and count to 100 ! I have never seen Tim do something unsafe or stupid and I dont expect him to start now.
and on another safety note if you used fired cases and simply replaced the primers in the spent cases the functionality would be tested, not wether a bullet leaves the barrel or not.
Does hammerless revolvers get hydrolock when immersed in water?
In addition to the Gauntlet, I think a good secondary test would be to replicate the 1000 round test you did for the Arex. Just a suggestion.
My second handgun I've ever owned was a M&P 9. Had the same trigger setup too, but I remembered I had to modify the trigger bar loop to be more open so that raised slope of the loop can reach the sear cam sooner, which allows the back end of the sear to rotate sooner. This will get the trigger to reset properly and not end up with a dead trigger. Mine had the VTAC sear housing block, which is now current with all newer M&P's, and IMHO I'd say that the stock trigger is not that bad at all. Had I known about the trigger bar loop situation, I would have just stayed with the stock trigger and just got good with it. As for the hydrolock issues, I have no input to give regarding that issue.
I know this is an old video but could you try to get a M2.0 to test?
Like to see a M1911 run through this test!!
AREX0 is the KING of the gauntlet!
Pretty sad. I guess navy seals won't go anywhere near M&Ps cause of that hydrolock now. Too bad. If they could marry the M&P grip with the Glock reliability and trigger you'd have an awesome gun
East Europeans can definitely make a firearm. Most of my favorites in my collection come from that region in fact.Consider that anyone making a service handgun there has to make something at least as reliable as the good ol' Makarov PM too.
Or just get a Walther PPQ.
a single stack carry series would be glorious....thanks for the great videos
that shirt is badass! ordering for entire family and a few to give to my buddies when a birthday rolls around.
