    SLF were massive in Glasgow, Scotland back in the late 1970's, early 1980's. We'll always have the Apollo memories.

      SLF were great " live ", weren't they.? I moved away from Glasgow in the early 1980's before they closed down the Apollo. Great memories.@@RichardSmith-ew3xz

    I never realised this made it high enough in the charts for a play on totp. Still one of their best tracks for me . Cheers

    I remember this being on TOTP very well. Started a new job a week or so before at John Lewis in Bristol. It was my fist Thursday evening 'late opening' shift so made sure I wandered over to the TV department and switched the display telly's over to BBC1 so I could watch it. Thanks for finding and sharing this!

    Brilliant stuff! Hopefully, BBC4 will continue to show TOTP repeats so we can get a perfect quality version.

    About 8 years ago I saw SLF live @ Wedgewood Rooms, Portsmouth.. My understanding was only one original member, that of course the singer, however the bassist was Bruce Foxton (The Jam).. Was still a great gig.. I enjoyed it.. All their classics were done, including this beauty..

      Original bass player Ali McMordie rejoined in 2006, so it would have been two originals, unless it's a lot longer ago than you thought.

      Ian Macallum and Steven Grantly both earned their worth in SLF since the 90s. Theres a documentary about the band on you tube well worth watching if your a fan, explains why they had to let Henry Clunie go ect. Foxton thought he was better than SLF so glad he went and original bass player came back.

      The original member who rejoined was The bass player before Bruce Foxton

    Wow. Thanks for posting, never knew this made it on to TOTP.. I seem to remember buying it on a 7" EP, which played at 33rpm. Ring any bells with anybody, or am I going gaga in my mid 40's? lol.

      pretty sure this was just a 45rpm single but soon after they had an EP with Sad Eyed people, That's When Your Blood Bumps, Listen and Two Guitars Clash on it. All better songs than this imo

      This did indeed play at 33rpm cos of two songs on the b side would have been too long otherwise.

    It didnt make the top 40 though unfortunately..I thought it was gonna shoot up the charts but sank without trace..Silver Lining did even worse....both still are brilliant songs and should have been hits!

    Hi mate, me again. Having another nostalgia night (allowed 2 a year, the better half is away with her sister). When (why) did us 17/18 year old lads, from that era bow down to "Soaps and Slippers"?? Just played News at 10 by The Vapors and I don't want to cry by The Keys. Check them out and join.... 1981 again, ll.

    I think you are confusing it with the 'Listen' ep (aka £1.10 or less e.p.) which was released in early 82'. This track played at 45 rpm and had an edited version of the album instrumental 'Go For It' and a live version of 'Doesn't Make It Alright' on the flip-side.

  • @goldcup11
    @goldcup11 11 років тому

    I think we both right and wrong. I haven't got it on an EP, but it is a 7" single that plays at 33rpm Its Chrysalis CHS2510. The a side is 'Just Fade Away' and the b side is 'Go For It' and 'Doesn't Make It Alright (live)'. It definitely plays at 33rpm not 45rpm though.

    So the drums were all played on a bodhran? And Henry played lead guitar? So much I never knew about SLF!

    What on earth was Jake Burns thinking dressing like this?

    • @treeefrogUK
      @treeefrogUK 6 років тому +6

      Taking the piss of course - just like Jim Reilly is doing with the bodhran. Along the lines of "Yes, we have to mime but we're not happy about it so ...."

    punk has been replaced for pop music sad

      Pop music has been around before during and after punk. Punk has been replaced with apathy if anything. Music is no longer a vehicle for youth culture/rebellion. The music industry is very much that, industry, it's a career option if you want to play the game by the rules.
