I've been testing this for a good chunk of time today! It's the most fun [Not Metroid] anyone could ever ask for! The firearms and character animations are the BEST part! It's raining casings!!
This is great so far. I've played the demo and there's a lot to like. Super Metroid is my favorite game and this is close enough to scratch an itch in my brain. I like the overall look and feel that you're going for. The character movement needs improvement. On foot she feels solid, slow, and weighty but when she jumps, she feels like she's rising and falling way to fast. It doesn't feel fluid, like I'm controlling a completely different character or like she's changing atmospheres while she's jumping. I like what you're going for! Keep it up!

I'm beyond impressed when good game demos come out from solo developers. I was wondering if constructive criticism, like in my previous comment, was warranted. I meant well.
I think with the Zillion theme music, it would be a good idea to make the main character perhaps be an older version of Apple from the Zillion anime (in her late 20's/early 30's). Something about it would feel perfect for a Metroid-like game for the Genesis. That way, we'd get a true sequel to the SMS classic, and also have a character that's truly distinct from Samus.
Is it likely this will be made into a full game, or is this a proof of concept? If you use original characters and enemies I'd gladly pay for a Metroid style game like this. There aren't enough actual Metroid like games, more on the Vania side.

We plan on doing a Kickstarter campaign to finish the game. After the project is done and the physical copies have been released. We can make a version with the Metroid music restored. We don't want to get in trouble with Nintendo before the game is finished.
Love the zillion music and even the sprite of Amy was ripped and slapped in here. Someone has good taste.

The current music is a copy of the music of Zillion on the Sega master system (a very good game at that time).
