You should look at the kk western line of cowboy boots
Does nobody buy Justin's anymore? I would love to see a review on a 180$ pair of Justin's cowboy boots
@@Reno420alexthey are trash. The insole and mid are all molded plastic
@rhino3hh " they are 180$ boots" 💀 not "500-1000$ boots" . They also aren't trash.. iv had multiple pairs and they last twice as long as any Ariats iv owned. They are a great budget brand
@@Reno420alex I’ve got a pair cut apart on my bench. But if that’s what you like then more power to ya
I want to thank Chisos for sponsoring this video on whether or not Chisos is the best cowboy boot.
Several manufacturers have given him boots to tear apart. The worse the boot, the less the manufacturer will give him boots. Probably because the know all the corners they cut, and would rather not help in exposing it themselves.
I personally own a pair of these very same boots, and they are indeed fantastic.
He gave a good review, because they are fantastic. If you haven't, you should check out his cowboy boot series. You'll see for yourself what other companies are doing. Chisos is by far superior to all the boots he's previously dissected.
They actually look really good.
@@jimyoung9262 I absolutely love mine. They are good looking boots, on top of the comfort and build.
Some people have had a bad experience, with a bad boot making it through to the customer, but there's always a low percentage of that from any manufacturer it seems.
You folded easily
@@jimyoung9262 because they are. They are amazing boots.
I appreciate the changes Chisos has made. But, it would be nice to see you cut apart one of the Nick's cowboy boots and see if they hold up.
Drew’s has some also. Is nicks making them in-house or Mexico?
@@BombproofCraftsman Nick's are made in house. JKs and Drew's are made in Leon. Not that Leon made boots are bad in any way. But, I'm way more interested in the similarities and differences between the Nick's and the Chisos.
@@johnadams8338 totally agree with that. I made the switch away from western boots to heritage & PNW type for more support & comfort. I’ve been really tempted lately to try some packers so I can get back the western style. I just assumed that the Drew’s being made in Leon would be the same construction as everything else made there. So hearing nicks is making them in house is an exciting prospect.
@@BombproofCraftsman Their website says the Roper is made on the HNW last and the Palouse is made on the 55 last. So yeah, I'd love to see how they combine the PNW last with a western boot.
@@johnadams8338 just looked over their website. It does kinda suck that the pull on models aren’t rebuildable.
I wear the #1 in roughout, and I bought them smaller than recommended so I could replace the comfortable insole with an insole I cut from cheap cow belly scrap leather. Even without the insoles, I find myself trying to keep them on when I go to bed. I am not talking about forgetting to take them off, I mean, I consciously consider leaving them on! Now, when I first bought them, the right foot was very tight, but after a good dry break-in period. I am happy to put these boots on every day.
I chose Chisos because of the traditional build and loved the idea of having retired dairy cow leather instead of leather from another underutilized animal. One of the biggest selling points for me however, was the unique stitching that looked nothing like the ones found on the competition.
I actually bought and returned a pair of chisos. Mine started having heel separation 1st time i wore them out of the house, also had some nails that werent fully sunk in. Chisos to them back for repair then sent them back to me without fixing either issue. About 3 week turnaround. I reached back and they did do a return for them. Customer service was good, but not fixing the issue and wasting my time left a bad taste for me. I ended up going tecovas. Been happy with them.
I’ve heard the same thing about tecovas. I like my tecovas but they don’t fit well because they don’t offer narrow.
I am starting to hear more and more of this. I bought a pair of chisos during their early stages, I hope they aren’t slipping with QC
@@evangonsalves4347 I got mine in October, and they've held up beautifully. No issues with construction on the pair I got.
It's strange hearing how bad this particular repair (non repair) was handled. I know their customer service is phenomenal. Guessing it was some strange fluke, and they got sent back before any work was actually done.
Sorry to OP for such a bad experience with Chisos. Mine have been fantastic and super comfortable, and have had no quality issues.
Maybe gice them another shot in the future. I really think it was a fluke all around.
They fixed a pair that I purchased two years ago due to the squeaking problem, no issues since then, so to each their own..
If you look close enough a lot of the cowboy boot brands are the same company owned by Berkshire Hathaway.
indeed... we're fighting against giants, trying to do things right!
Yep. Nocona, Justin, Tony Lama, Lucchese, all owned by Berkshire Hathaway now.
@@jennypaxton8159 that’s interesting to know. Does Warren wear cowboy boots?
@@stog9821almost 100%
@@stog9821 LOL
I fell down the cowboy boot rabbit hole a couple years ago. Ended up buying about 12 pairs: Tecovas at first; then Lucchese; then Chisos. I was most disappointed with the Lucchese QC issues: imperfect stitching on most and shaft diameter on one pair. I agree the Chisos were the most comfortable. And customer service was outstanding. But since then I’ve become more of a heritage boot fan, filling up my closet with boots by Red Wing, Allen Edmonds, Alden, Viberg and Division Road/Whites collaborations. I’ll likely never buy another pair of cowboy boots, but this video may persuade me to revisit wearing my Chisos #2 once in a while.
Nocona are my favorite
I really wish your analysis included some consideration of the intended use of the boot.
For example, by design cowboy boots tend to have higher heels, rigid shanks, and relatively thick, hard soles. Not very good for walking, but wonderful if you spend your day in stirrups (or on a ladder, or standing on concrete).
Or walking, but somewhere other than a street or sidewalk.
Plus, the leather soles are ideal for puncture resistance (e.g. if you have the terrible luck to step on a horse crippler cactus or something) and good traction on dry sand and scrub, while the uppers are to keep out sand and protect your ankles from thorns (not rattlesnakes necessarily). The lack of laces is so you won’t get tangled up in the stirrup, thrown, and possibly dragged to your death by a freaking out horse (the natural state of horses, it sometimes seems). The stitching on the shaft is to keep it from slumping and slouching down, and if you’re doing that anyway, why not have it look nice?
He said, "a thinner shank so not as good for standing on ladders all day." Thinner shank gives a little bit more." That means more comfort for walking and high arch support because of its shape. It's basically a slightly modified French tip. Knowing cowboy boots, a French tip is good for everything. Stirrups, style and walking. "They have a pillow top mattress for an insert". "They are the most comfortable cowboy boot available". Hope this helps solve the riddles.
I've found that cowboy boots are unbeatable for traction in walking in thick sand, like in a riverbed for instance; (because of the high heel, it just digs in).
That cross section is just downright gorgeous
As you said it - they're the best Cowboy boot available today, regardless of price. The best ? Yes - Worth the price - Of Course they are -! They are obviously much better than Luchese at 1/2 the price...my Tony Lamas have never been comfortable!
Yall should look at those new JK Western Boots
Never heard of those until now. If they offered them in Horween or their buffalo, I would be all over it.
@@evangonsalves4347They are a separate brand (made in mexico) but operated and QCed by JK Boots
Love your videos. Very informative. Thank you 👍
I had a pair of plain Tony Lama's from the 90's that I wore 1 month shy of 10 years. They were so broke in it was like wearing slippers. Wore them riding quads, wore them wading through creak, wore them through mud, wore them operating heavy equipment.
One day the shank popped through the insole so I stopped wearing them.
They were like 100 dollars in the early/mid 90s ($235 today) and made in the USA. I had the heals and sole savers replaced multiple times.
Some day I'll get them repaired but the quality of boots today for that price don't compare.
Broken.
@@I_dont_give_a_care yes, they are broken? Lol
@@I_dont_give_a_care
Broke in as in flexible, not Broken as in busted.
@@fochdischitt3561 yeah the word is still broken. They were so broken in.
@@I_dont_give_a_care you're going to go after that but ignore "creak"?
I recently bought a pair of these exact boots. Supper comfy even when brand new. Only thing is, I recommend wearing black socks for the first few outings, the red inside with stain of any other color.
Please review Anderson Bean/Rios of Mercedes. Both American made with Rios being slightly higher end. The Beans might not have the best overall materials, but they are the most comfortable I’ve ever owned. If you really want to make things interesting get a pair of Becks. They are supposed ti be the real deal endorsed by working cowboys. They still use a 40 penny nail for a shank!
Yes. Add Becks to that list as well!
Definitely needs to review boots from the Rios family. I love my ABs. Add Fenoglio to the list as well. Nothing against a Mexican made boot but there’s some great stuff coming out of Texas for less money than this boot in the video.
Tried two pairs of Rios, the shaft is made for people that don't have calves...
Awesome review as always! Might i recommend reviewing either Hondo Boots or Black Jack boots
I use chisos to actually ride horses and they're probably the toughest leather soled boot I've worn and are great to ride in because of how stiff and thick the leather on the bottom but the heel is super high. I'm used to roper heels for walking around. And they look great but I like the hand dyed leather look
But that heel is rough.
Love that you use 'em for what they are intended for! Cheers -Will
I agree, the heel is high. I had the No. 2.
Has he cut Boulet boots yet?
That’s one thing I loved about the Ariat Groundbreakers. The inside shaft seem didn’t rub on my legs. Wore like tennis shoes.
First time viewer, glad I found your channel. Great information and I love your presentation.
You hoots go on a viewing spree. His channel is fantastic. He gives a good history, and breaks down the construction of everything very well.
@@dewboy13 I bought my first pair based on this video!👍🤞
I like the look of the hand dye.
I just bought my first pair of cowboy boots a week ago and I’m excited you’re revisiting different brands! Went with Justin’s for work but I’m super curious about my next purchase, wanting to go for a higher quality pair.
welcome to the club!
Justin boots are the only brand that fit my wide “Fred Flintstone” feet, lol
I own and work in every day several pnw boots. And ride a work in many hand made western riding boots. I’m picky when it comes to boots. I judge them all by pnw boot builds. And chisos is of high quality, they feel like a pnw boots. Sooo comfortable. But they’re my going to town boots. Their customer service is top notch as well.
You ain't wrong. Thanks for being a customer!
For almost $600 and made in Mexico, I’m now looking at jk and nicks. Still expensive but is keeping Americans working. 🤷🏼♂️
Those boots actually look better than almost any other shoe I've seen you wear actually. I'm not a boot guy either. But I did grow up in Tony Lama country. These are good looking boots.
Thank you, means even more coming from a "not a boot guy", Carl! Cheers
I generally use either Ariat or Chisos insoles in my Tecovas or Cuadra boots. Those are available separately. I have a narrow foot so I get the same length and bring my foot up to compensate for the wider width of these off the shelf boots (they’re D and I’d need a B or a C). It’s a lot cheaper than buying a Chisos boot just for the comfort (plus Chisos don’t do zip boots and only do ostrich as an exotic skin). I don’t do ranch work in my boots so I gravitate towards exotic skins.
I love Chisos. Only other boot I can think of that is on par before getting into custom boots is JW Boot Company signature line (which I would love to see cut open) you might also be interested in their hiking boots and other footwear that is made traditionally
Love to see a Rujo's review. I have the marcus in gret and love the look. I'm suffering a half size small just because i like them so much
Nick's and jk boots both made a western line of boots. That looks extremely high quality as far as description goes. The nick are by far the more durable of the too as far as I can tell. I would love a review on both!!!!
I’ve the #2 rough out. It’s the last of three I own. Oh the last one , the Chisos , is the next one I’ll buy again.
I'd love to see you cut apart JKs new western line of boots.
Also I own two pairs of Chisos No2s, one is for dress up only and the other one I used for light medium work but I wore through the outsoles in 6 months and had to get them resolved, so I'd recommend Chisos for the casual use to light duty use only.
Two each their own as I know ranchers that love them..
Would love to see some Boulet boots and more Canadian brands in general
Or from the other side of country, Alberta Boot
Good review!
ROJO boots also made in Mexico, the best boots I own . Nothing beats thier price!
Stopped by the shop in Austin, TX last year and bought me a pair of No. 1s Roughout. Glad I didn't do mail order, had to try on about 3 different sizes before I got a fit. Very narrow, so had to go up a size and a half. Love 'em.
So glad you came by! Thank you for the support!
Awesome!!
Boulet Boots!!
Second Boulets
I own a pair of chisos snip toes in rough out and love them. The leather seems high quality and they are comfortable on the foot. Only thing that bothers me is where the vertical seem meets the horizontal one, it rubs on my ankle. Their customer service told me that should go away after break in, I hope they’re right. My other favorite boots, of which I own many pairs, are Ranch Roads. They recently “paused” operation so probably not going to cut those in half. It’s a shame because their boots are very comfortable and seem like good quality as well.
Will you review the new JK Western boot any time soon?
Really good video. If I can add one to the list I own a pair of double H jase cowboy boots witch are hand made in USA ,PA specifically. It'd be really interesting to see them cut in half. Look forward to your other videos.
I have a pair of Abilenes, PA made also. Somerset County to be specific. Very comfortable. I asked him to do them a couple years ago and he never did.
Agreed, I have some Double H Dylan boots and like them a lot but I know they're not the absolute best out there. I mainly like that they are American made. I'd be curious to learn about their specific deficiencies and the compromises they made to keep them comfortable and at a reasonable price point.
Now that Nick’s makes western pull-on boots. Idk, I find it hard to get excited about any other.
I’ve suggested Old Gringo boots before. They are billed as hand made and are a higher end boot too.
I'm not sure how feasible or popular it would be because I don't know how popular you are in Canada, but it would be cool to see some reviews and videos on some Canadian boot brands. Love the videos!
Weston, you should do a series of leather products from different parts of the world. Word has it Mexico has some of the best leather workers in the world. Could do a comparison of Jackets, belts, and gloves.
Chisos, without a doubt the best made - most comfortable cowboy boot on the market!
My favorite cowboy boots are from Paul Bond made with a custom last. I can and have worn these boots all day long. Don’t remember when I got these maybe a couple of decades ago.
Well, this isn't an Alberta Boot Company boot so... no, it isn't the best. Still, great video, and I'd own these happily.
None of todays mass market cowboy boots are built as well as they used to be, My Lucchese don't look anything like the boots you cut in half.
Same with my Tony Lama Black Label in Caribou. Nothing like what's made today.
Would you please cut and inspect some Dan Post boots? Specifically the Pike, Pugh or the Winston. Thanks for the great content, always entertaining and educational to watch.
I have multiple pairs of Lucchese boots. Now I want a pair of Chisos.
We get lots of Lucchese gents coming over the fence... and rarely do they return ;)
I think you should look into Hondo boots. In my opinion, you get the most for your money with them. Super traditional build and tough as nails.
I’ve been putting a pair of Hyer boots through hell for the past 4 months and I’ve been impressed. You should do an episode on them.
Any chance of cutting the new Jim Green boots in half? Love these vids!
Lord I love Jim Green, it’s one of those few companies that you can really admire and respect and just be like “let me give you my money”
I’d like to see what’s inside a pair of Heritage boots. I’ve heard good things about them and recently got a pair for myself. The customer service was great and they fit like a glove. They are inspired by Cowboy boots from the 30s-60s. Their base boots cost about $650. I’ve really enjoyed this Cowboy boot series.
I got the brown 2s when they first came around and love them so when the 5s came out in roughout i had to have them. Out of the 7 pairs i have wont mention other brands the chisos are my go toos especially the 5s
Love it! Thank you, sir!
Would love you to do a review and dissection of Canadian made Boulet boots.
Hey Weston, the reason cowboy boots crush your toes is you need narrow or a boot with a low instep. Cowboy boots need to be tight on the instep new. I have the same issue, and I bought narrow redwing pecos true to size 14C and they fit my instep better. Chisos and others only make D width, so their boots kinda suck for anyone without D width normal feet.
I have Lucchese’s, Ariats, Tecovas and Justin Boots. Personally Lucchese’s have the best fit, that white lining often feels more rigid as it grips your foot and reduces the boot from sliding. Ariats have the best value for your money it’s a good shit kicker. Tecovas are nice, I’ve learned to love them, their socks are pretty good. Justin Boots are one of my favorites, they’re also shit kickers, but they stay pretty for a long time. Materials are very thin/cheap and vary depending on their model. They have some thing called J-Flex where they have somewhat of a cloth/foam lining. Not a fan, but I think they would serve as an interesting cut in half for this series.
I had ordered Ariat's, online I know I should go to a shop but having no car and the nearest shop a couple of hours away by bus online was the easiest way.
online they look beautiful, a kind of worn old brown leather.
when they arrived they turned out to be dark brown, high gloss. nothing near the advertisement.
Ariat claims it being a natural product, colors can change.
(something like selling a dark blue jeans with ironing folds as a stonewashed)
I've bought one pair of Justin boots. They were the worst boots I've ever owned. Not even a month into it, bot heal counters were collapsed. The tread started separating from the sole. 3 months in, I had to cement the sole back onto the boot 2 x's. As I wore them, and bear in mind I really take care of my boots) by the tenth month, I had re cemented the boots on 4 times, collapsed heal counters, both boots split on the side seems (where the round piping is)
Justin has a 1 year warranty, I didn't even bother taking them up on that, because I was so disgusted by my experience. Worst boot I've ever worn.
Are there any particular models of Justin's you would recommend? I'm hoping that a higher price boot, actually gives you higher quality.
Spend the extra money and buy the American made ones
GREAT VIDEOS! THANKS.
one silly(?) question,, what do i look for to keep my socks from bunching up at my heels?
Another cowboy boot series would be sweet, maybe focus more on ropers/wellingtons.
I love my No.5 Chisos. I have been, for the last year, literally wearing them 90% of the time, for work and for nights out. In fact, I need to take them to have them resoled. If I have one complaint, it is that they only have D widths and I wear a B, so I have added some strategically cut fillers to tighten up the vamp without crushing my toes.
I also have #5 chisos, good looking boot but the leather is so soft and seems like it would tear easy. You haven't had any durability issues?
@@GetOutOfMyDojo I have had mine a year and they are holding up really well especially considering I wear them 6 or 7 days a week.
Good to know, thank you.
Quality or not. I can’t afford $600 boots. I get my boots from goodwill, eBay or Facebook marketplace. But hey, that’s me. More power to you if you can justify that much money for boots.
nothing wrong with that. smart
I have a pair of chisos and they fit weird. They feel tight across my foot which is part of the break in which a lot of pain, but they also fit a little loose. I can slip them on and off without a problem, probably fling them off if I tried hard enough. So I can’t go up in size to fix the or the other problem because more apparent and vice versa. They’re not bad but could fix the size issue
Try the new JK western boots and Hondo boots
You should also cut the Durango Cowboy Boot by UNMARKED. Also made in Mexico at a similar price point. I personally own a pair and i looove them, super comfortable and beautiful looking high quality boots.
I believe Rios Of Mercedes is all leather construction and they have the removable arched insoles. Your guy Black Bear Brand has collaborations with them.
You should do J.K boots cowboy boots as well. Because those are priced pretty competively at 400-500$ range
Just ordered my first pair of Chisos, supposed to be delivered tomorrow. I have high hopes but not holding my breath because I have a wide foot.
Well, I got my ropers and at first they seemed tight but after trying them on for about the third time, they slipped too much. I guess I should have just exchanged them for a half size down, but they just didn’t feel right. Every review I read raved about how comfortable they were but that wasn’t the case for me. Maybe it’s just the shape of my feet, whatever. They were beautiful and extremely well made, but, like I said, something just didn’t “feel right “, and for $600 I think that it should be a “Wow! These are amazing “ moment right out of the box. But they weren’t for me, so I sent them back. Nothing against Chisos or the way the boots are made, just weren’t comfortable on my feet. It’s a shame because I really wanted to love them.
I would like to see Anderson Bean boots reviewed as well.
I don't know if the goal is to find the most comfortable/toughest made cowboy boot but the Rios of Mercedes family of boots is high quality but made mostly for cowboys...some lifestyle stuff too. I have both a pair of Rios "Ride Ready" from NRS World and a pair of Anderson Bean and I really like them a bunch, Olathe and Macie Bean are their others brands under the same company. Anderson Bean actively advertises that not only are the boots made in the USA but they're made with USA sourced materials as well. I got my pair of AB at Cavenders for under $400 including tax. Hondo Boots also seems to make a very traditional cowboy boot as well but made in Mexico and I like the pair I have. Just some brands to consider anyway.
The most comfortable boots I've worn are the Dan Post Alamosa. I own 3 different colored pairs in ostrich leather.
Have checked the Honda brand? I understand they are one of the oldest brands. I’m thinking of buying a pair. Appreciate the your content.
I have a pair of Hondos from the 1970s. Still going strong!
Would love to see a review of the new JK Western boots
I want to buy a pair of the ropers, but I may just spring for a Wesco Mr Lu. Any thoughts on comparing the two?
I don't think they're comparable (much lower quality I assume). But I recently got a pair of Cody James boots, I wasn't able to find many reviews online
Chisos is a well made boot and is comfortable. The problem is they are a D boot builder. The only EE width they make is the # 2. They also have a limited styles apposed to Lucchese or Tecovas. The last thing is they dont get boot sizes restocked in a timely fashion. Excellent boot if you are a D width.
Clinch Boots just recently came out with a cowboy boot, would be cool to see it cut in half and see how it compares to the rest.
Have you done any double H brands 1552 ? I stand a lot and have some feet issues I have no problem wearing these all day
Is it is the toe box pretty wide on the square toes like my toes are spread out I'm not a big pinch Point cowboy boot guy
Hey, man love your videos they got me into boots got my first pair of boots from this local indian company - craft and Glory. They were like 150 dollars and idk maybe it's because I haven't worn boots before but they feel amazing . It might be because of the low labour cost here idk but they seem very high quality for the price point. Would LOVE IT if you cut those in half, they have international shipping it would be cool to see yourIbreakdown on them.
I would love to see the JK western boots looked at. I just got a pair and they are very nice. I’d love to see the inside. They are made in Mexico at the moment but a made in USA is coming as stated from JK.
Also Please! Red Wing 877 vs 10877 comparison! 😅
I really want to see him do black jack boots.
Would love to see you review some of the Double H cowboy work boots. Looking to possibly buy a pair to replace my Wolverines. I've heard good things, but would enjoy your analysis.
Great information, question I have a wide foot and a very high arch other than having a boot custom made do you know boot company out there I can get a pair of boots at a reasonable cost.
I'd like to see a comparison between Cuero boots and Tecovas. Cuero being a direct competitor for half the price. Both being made in Mexico with similar designs. Also, a breakdown of Rio of Mercedes
cuero = rujo = tecovas
Rios of Mercedes, however, are in another league from those three
Yes!
Would love to see a video on Twisted X western work Boots. I bought a pair back in September or so and wear them everyday. They’ve held up great, just wondering if there Tech X really does anything. I’m 330lbs so finding a pair of western work boots that stay comfortable is very important to me.
Anderson Bean, Olathe, Rios of Mercedes and Fenolio are all American made boots. Give them a try plus a ton of others.
I'm still always asking for a Red Wing Pecos review! 😊
I wish you guys would make a 2 in ranger belt
MITUSA Cowboy Boot series is most definitely necessary!
i've been watching your videos for a while now, really enjoy them,in fact,so much so that they inspired me to get a nice pair of heritage boots...which brings me to my next point...i think you should look into Canada West boots, especially their WM Moorby collection....i would love to see what you think
Tecovas hit that sweet spot of price and quality. But I do want to try some chisos really badly
I’d like to see how Anderson Bean holds up under the knife. I’ve ridden horses in them and brought them back up to going out on the town. They’re made in the USA, and run about $450 for a basic cow skin riding boot. Mine from over ten years ago seem to be traditionally constructed with room for an insole. They typically run a shoe heel, so the ramp effect isn’t as severe. I wish they had a spur ledge, but they don’t, which is strange for a boot marketed at actual cowboys (horse people). It’s a tragedy that Olathe isn’t what it used to be.
One thing they could add to make the comfort of the boots better is a strip of rubber along the sole, like in-between the midsole and the outsole. It would provide a little shock absorption for the feet. I personally do not like leather soles.
Good recommendation, I aimed for impact dissipation with the comfort insole! it's worth giving it a shot to see if it meets your needs. -Will
Feels like they designed the upgrades of this boot to look good while cut in half 😂. Not complaining
Hey man, do a video about Puma Suede. They're a classic!
I’d like to see a review of JRC & Sons (Cavender’s house brand) cowboy boot. Could be pretty much like Tecovas, though.
Would love to see the new JK Western boots, I reckon they would give this a run for its money for best cowboy boot
Been wondering what you think of the Olathe cowboy boot ?..
Please give Clinch brass Tokyo Cowboy boots a review.. I love my pair ❤
I have to say I love my Chisos. Rarely take em off.
