as someone who plays a game every week, I can assure you that the level of tom foolery that can take place is taken to levels one cannot comprehend until they actually sit in on an experienced game XD
As someone who has played D&D for years, I think it's very sweet how their DM simplified a lot of stuff so they could really grasp it. there are a lot of things that are difficult to grasp when starting out, and making it this easy for them is a mark of a truly great DM.
I agree, when I was a noob my first DM allowed grappling calculations and it was pure madness, pretty sure our min/maxer rage quit for an hour because we were all doing it wrong and kinda willy nilly I wish I had gotten a dumbed down version in the beginning like this! I still did a lot of campaigns after that haha, but I voted against grappling when I was able to! hahaha~
Yeah, and it's a legit way to play even when you're not a noob, too! The complications aren't for everyone, and D&D is whatever you want to make it be :)

My first dnd character was so annoying that the rest of the party "accidently" left me on a mountain. Managed to fly back, got dropped on roof, broke both my legs and they just left me there while they turned a shopkeeper into a platinum statue and then sold him, making everyone except my character rich for life.
My first dnd character was the only one to survive another player's murderous rampage. She only escaped because he choked on a chicken nugget before he could get to her.
The whole plot revolved around the royal guards. The leader said if we provoked him he would kill us. I called him ugly so he tried to kill us. We killed him and our dm had to invent a whole new plot.
So I saw the question “What is Dungeons & Dragons?” and I’m thinking....well... that depends...me and my friends.... we just fck around but still end up winning out of pure luck...aka rolling a lot of nat 20s that nobody expects... Oh and also here’s a list of stats explained by tomatoes Strength is the ability to smash a tomato Dexterity is the ability to dodge a tomato Constitution is the ability to eat a bad tomato Intelligence is knowing a tomato is a fruit Wisdom is knowing tomato doesn’t go in fruit salad Charisma is the ability to sell a fruit salad with tomato in it. I just thought this was a cool way to explain things bc this is how my DM explained it to me the first time I played
As a bard in D&D, there are SEVERAL moves like that. You can also get cutting words, which is where you insult someone *so hard*, it lessens someone's attack on you. There's also a spell (that may be Wizard only idk it's early), called Tasha's hideous laughter, that causes people to be incapacitated by laughter.

My first dnd character was so annoying that the rest of the party "accidently" left me on a mountain. Managed to fly back, got dropped on roof, broke both my legs and they just left me there while they turned a shopkeeper into a platinum statue and then sold him, making everyone except my character rich for life.
Also he's a monk but his god is a prick. I prayed for help and got hit with a divine brick and a note saying 'shut up and leave me alone'

My first dnd character was the only one to survive another player's murderous rampage. She only escaped because he choked on a chicken nugget before he could get to her.
The whole plot revolved around the royal guards. The leader said if we provoked him he would kill us. I called him ugly so he tried to kill us. We killed him and our dm had to invent a whole new plot.
So I saw the question “What is Dungeons & Dragons?” and I’m thinking....well... that depends...me and my friends.... we just fck around but still end up winning out of pure luck...aka rolling a lot of nat 20s that nobody expects...
Oh and also here’s a list of stats explained by tomatoes
Strength is the ability to smash a tomato
Dexterity is the ability to dodge a tomato
Constitution is the ability to eat a bad tomato
Intelligence is knowing a tomato is a fruit
Wisdom is knowing tomato doesn’t go in fruit salad
Charisma is the ability to sell a fruit salad with tomato in it.
I just thought this was a cool way to explain things bc this is how my DM explained it to me the first time I played

As a bard in D&D, there are SEVERAL moves like that. You can also get cutting words, which is where you insult someone *so hard*, it lessens someone's attack on you. There's also a spell (that may be Wizard only idk it's early), called Tasha's hideous laughter, that causes people to be incapacitated by laughter.
Also a bard spell, Vicious Mockery. Where you literally insult someone so hard they take psychic damage

Viscious Mockery is also a cantrip that the Tiefling subrace Devil’s Tongue has!!
