I use this compressor for all my side-chaining. I go back to these videos for refreshers, and I have to say, Mike explains this stuff SO well! I hope everyone with S1 is taking advantage.
I've watched a few videos on Compression before, and this really is right up there in terms of its clarity and its precision. Mike is also very comprehensive and goes though all of the functional elements in turn, including some advanced topics like side-chain compression. Thank-you so much for your high quality content. I always look forward to the next one! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
As always Mike, your explanations are clear, concise and factual. Your cheerful demeanor is a welcome addition to these tutorials. I'm sure we probably don't grasp how much work goes into these videos, but we certainly appreciate the result!
Thanks Daniel, I appreciate that. The 'work' is mostly me losing the ability to speak basic English, and having to repeat things 20 times. For example, it took me nearly 3 hours to record the section on ratio, because I stumbled over words or was not happy with the way I explained it! Actually it's incompetence!
Thank you for helping a lot of newcomers who are beginning this part of their musical journey 😊 I’m relatively new myself (started in 2020 during lockdown) but definitely appreciate your videos here and on Creative Sauce 😊
Wish my Algebra professor employed your style of explanation and thoughtfulness. But then again...who really likes algebra! Of course poindexter will definitely comment about it-hence, proving my point.
If i only had someone explaining to me the compressor in S1 since 2014, I wouldn’t have to buy all those compressor plugins. Thank you. I love the patience of your explanation, thank you for your vodeosss.
Ciao e grazie. Spieghi veramente bene. Purtroppo l'Inglese lo capisco poco ma con l'aiuto dei sottotitoli cerco di arrangiarmi e nonostante questo riesco a capirti ... pensa quanto sei bravo a spiegare 👏👏👏
Nicely explained, and quietly at ease, without too much information that would otherwise make it too complicated. thx 4 the vid. (even for a Dutch speaker 😄)
Yo, Mike! Thanks so much for all your videos. You've helped me get reacquainted with Cakewalk after many years away and now your videos are helping me to easily acclimate to Studio One which I really enjoy. I hope more Studio One initiates find your channel, you rock!
Hi Raymond. Yes low frequencies will tend to trigger the compression more, and you can end up with compression when you don't really want it, si it's useful to suppress those frequencies in term of what the compressor 'hears'.
Great work sir! Awesome to see these for Presonus users. Have used it for a few years now, and always nice to brush up on some things I have forgotten. I do have a question though...How did you get graphics into your track notes?

Excellent compressor. Makes some name brand ones look silly.
Hi Mike! Another great tutorial! One thing I didn't understand. At 23:00, were you using the Ext Sidechain filter to filter the kick, and if so, why?
